  1. Wow, that's good stuff - Thanks sbryliski. I have a hard time watching Brewer games in Houston - I loathe that ballpark.
  2. Bill Hall just hit more home runs and had more extra base hits last year than Carlos Lee ever hit before last year. And in my best guestimation will ever hit again. You do realize he's playing in Houston now right? With the ridiculously absurd 200-somthing foot fence (well it certainly feels that way) in left field, he'll probably hit 10 more HR's next year.
  3. He's very close to being done He's 32, not 38. He's streaky, we all know that. But as long as he accumulates numbers similar to 2005, he's a great asset to the team. It really doesn't matter when he does it, as long as he does it. I don't think Mench, Gross, or Clark will even come close to Jenkin's production this year, but I've been wrong before.
  4. Jenkins was our best hitter 2 years ago. 7 Million is really nothing to pay for 1 more year of solid production, and I am of the opinion he would give us solid production next year. Hang on to him, Doug, and dump Mench. Then give Brady AB's against most Lefties, or Gross if he somehow proves he can handle it.
  5. Per CNN, the deal to Arizona is supposed to go down in 24 hours. Going to NYY: Luis Vizcaino, shortstop Alberto Gonzalez and pitching prospects Ross Ohlendorf, Micah Owings and Dustin Nippert. AZ is probably getting some amount of cash as well. Decent deal for the Yankees if they can get Clemens.
  6. I might be acting way too cynical, but it feels like Suppan is only entertaining the Brewers in order to snowball other interested teams in making a move for him. Personally I won't be too disappointed if they don't sign him, but this whole thing feels like he's using the Brewers and Melvin's interest as an indication to other teams that they have to get going if they want to sign him. In other words, Melvin is simply getting Suppan's 11, 12, 13 Million dollar ball rolling. In any event, it is very exciting an encouraging that we are in the mix for a 10 Million dollar guy - it's just not that exciting when that guy is Jeff Suppan.
  7. If by blow you mean finish ahead of the Brewers, then yes, they will blow.
  8. I hate to sound so negative, but until a 10 million dollar guy signs here, I will continue to assume that he is using us for leverage when other teams lose interest.
  9. Isn't Kubel out for the year again? With Weeks and Hardy unable to stay healthy, that's putting a lot of chips into very fragile guys. Crain would be a nice guy to get, but we're also giving up a possible 8th inning guy to get another. If Kubel is healthy I guess I wouldn't mind it, but I think he's currently way too much of a risk.
  10. If the Brewers are scraping to get Hendrickson and Lieber I really don't understand why they aren't at least semi-pursuing Ohka I'm almost positive that Doug spoke with team doctors about Ohka and they handed him an enormous red flag. If that's not the case, I'm equally baffled.
  11. I brought this up last year and the more I looked at his numbers, the more I think he's delusional for wanting to start. He's above average defensively, but he's not getting it done offensively. He's probably a worse hitter than Rivera.
  12. That's hysterical! I take it you're in favor of any deal, even a rosin bag. Kolb is not our propery. (thank God).
  13. Just heard it on ESPN from Steve Phillips. Don't really know if it's going to be finalized, but seems like another pretty solid move for the Cubs. Man, they are going to have a lot of talent going into next year, so it will be interesting to see how they screw it up. This deal would also seem to be pretty solid for Colorado as well, as Jones should put up decdent numbers out there, and Maholm is a good young arm. Maybe we should jump in the mix and try to acquire Hawpe. Thoughts? EDIT: The Cubs would also Send Carlos Marmol to COL. Still a hell of a deal for them if they can get Jennings. If that's the case, I agree with Nader: why couldn't Clark and Jackson get it done? I'd even throw in TGJ or another prospect, or replace Clark with Jenkins or Mench if they wanted.
  14. Man, I'm sure glad the Brewers don't have to worry about getting caught up in any of this. How dare the Cubs try to spend the endless amounts of cash they have. Are they smart with these contracts? No. Do they have to be? Absolutely not. Seriously, let's not turn the entire offseason into Brewerapologist.net.
  15. No way on the Hall trade, Yes please for Kim. Is Guthrie even a prospect anymore? I know this board (me included) has a tendency to overvalue some Brewer players, but Hall's value has got to be way higher.
  16. Luckiest men on Earth: Ronnie Belliard, Neifi Perez, Sean Casey, Preston Wilson.
  17. Hey guys, thought I'd chime in. Great job by Loduca not to be over-anxious there. A lot of guys might have gone up there looking for the walk off. We'll see if it turns out to be key. Edit: Guess not!
  18. Brad Nelson has as much trade value, even as a throw-in, as Joe Winklesas. Give a team a choice between nothing and Nelson, they are taking nothing.
  19. I'm surprised no one has mentioned how bad this guy's arm really is in CF. I still remember a game earlier this year where the Cubs lost on a 280 foot Sac Fly that Pierre 8-hopped (rolled) a throw to the plate. No thanks.
  20. Mench bascially becomes completely useless with Burrell around. I tell ya what, Mench is useless whether Burrell is around or not http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I certainly wouldn't let Kevin Mench be an obstacle to acquiring a sold middle-of-the-order bat.
  21. Soriano will most certainly command a 5 year deal. That said, he most certainly will not be a Brewer next year. It would be different if we proved something this year by making the playoffs (or just missing them) and staying healthy. The risk of signing a Soriano, in that scenario, and hoping he comes close to duplicating last year's numbers for a few more years might be worth it. However, after an injury-plagued campaign in '06 and not really knowing what Weeks and Hardy are capable of doing for a full season, the Soriano signing just doesn't seem to fit.
  22. As much as I hate to say it...if I were Doug Davis, I'd be saying, "trade me - or get me somewhere closer to the land of run support." um, what??
  23. I know it's the Off-topic thread, but the Brewers. The Brewers are really bugging me.
  24. The best ending to this game would be for Turnbow to walk Taveras...now that would be funny.
  25. Does anyone think Uecker punches/bites/slaps Powell in innings like this? Not that Powell did anything wrong, just that he's there, and he's small. I would. I want to beat someone every time I watch games in Houston.
