  1. The A's aren't dumb. They may have overrated Ruiz a tad or perhaps not. The angle here is clearly their large OF and the return of stolen bases to relevance. Who knows, Ruiz might swipe 100 bags for them in 2023 with the basepaths shortened and the new limit on holding runners. And if he does, I'll still think this is a fantastic trade for Milwaukee given what they're getting in Contreras and the fact that Chourio, Frelick, Mitchell, and Weimer are still in the organizational OF.
  2. The most "ball don't lie" game I've ever witnessed
  3. Davis replacing someone even worse than he was does not mean the Brewers couldn't have benefited from going to Mitchell sooner. Again they finished 1 game out of the wild card with Mitchell vastly outperforming Davis. And bringing up Davis's baserunning and defense is pretty disingenuous given Mitchell's proficiency in those areas.
  4. It could be nothing. OR it could be like giving Jonathan Davis 91 plate appearances while a division lead turned into a massive deficit and eventually a missed playoff berth. Don't act the Brewers giving plate appearance to cheap journeymen has never cost them anything in regard to on field success or playing time for younger, more talented options. Davis put up an OPS+ of 71 while Garrett Mitchell, who finally supplanted him, put up an OPS+ of 136. The Brewers finished one game out of the final wild card spot.
  5. If the Brewers have a less than 1% chance of signing a player like Jose Abreu, just fold the franchise. Thankfully that's not even close to being accurate.
  6. If the Brewers have a less than 1% chance of signing a player like Jose Abreu, just fold the franchise. Thankfully that's not even close to being accurate.
  7. ??? It literally could happen right now if they choose to do so. They also could have been more aggressive adding bats in either of the PAST 2 seasons.
  8. If guys like Perkins and Singleton are on the roster to manipulate service time for their prospects after trading Renfroe to save money and clear the way, then they are punting on yet another season of Burnes and Woodruff. At some point you have to line up your talent. And the Brewers have done a terrible job with it during these years of unprecedented pitching talent. It better not happen but it's definitely a reasonable fear.
  9. Exactly. Those reports were right on par with the typical report of a middling prospect. Equal parts fluff with plenty of hedging and reservation mixed in. Nothing in those reports that stand out to suggest the Brewers got themselves some hidden gems.
  10. Nice strawman (the absolute lowest form of internet posting after trolling). Hope you enjoyed the like you got on this post from an team apologist. Who compared Hunter Renfroe to Mike Trout? My post literally said: "It's easy to see why the Brewers were looking to move Renfroe rather than pay what he'll get this year but they didn't have to trade him for Junk.". Very few if any here are taking exception to the idea of trading Renfroe. They simply see the folly in trading a useful major league hitter for non prospects who have the added plus of being old. It would not be difficult to do better than this deal.
  11. To date Chourio has tracked right with Juan Soto, if anything running slight ahead of him on the ladder through age 18. Soto didn't see AA until his 3rd minor league season at age 19. Chourio hit Biloxi at the end of his 2nd minor league season at age 18 and is about to embark on his 3rd year in pro ball. Here's how Soto's 3 year (also at age 19) in pro ball unfolded... A: 16 games A+: 15 games AA: 8 games MLB: 116 games Chourio has been one of the few to match the numbers Soto was putting up at the age of 18 and actually progressed further than him at the same age. It would not be shocking to see Chourio in Milwaukee at some point in 2023. I wouldn't rule out starting the year back in Appleton, but most likely he picks right back up in Biloxi and could move quickly from there. Soto never even played at day of AAA ball but I would expect Chourio to spend some time in Nashville. I could see something like this for Jackson in 2023 barring injury or any stall in performance... AA: 80 games AAA: 50 games MLB: 25 games That's an admittedly aggressive track but it pales in comparison to how quickly Soto moved in his age 19 season which began in low A. It wouldn't even surprise me if the Brewers were just as aggressive with Chourio and had him up by mid May like Soto was with Washington, but I wouldn't bet on it.
  12. So many of the posts here are focused on downplaying Renfroe which is telling. Have yet to see anyone offer up a hidden nugget uncovering what the Brewers might see in one or more of the pitchers they got in return. That's probably because none of them even have extreme youth on their side. Usually a prospect is either putting up eye popping minor league numbers or is young for the level they were playing at. That's not the case with any of these guys. It's easy to see why the Brewers were looking to move Renfroe rather than pay what he'll get this year but they didn't have to trade him for Junk.
  13. So about that first part, the cap gymnastics. The Bucks are so far above the cap that if they let Khris walk, they wouldn't have the cap space to replace him. Which is why they will pay him.
  14. Put the beverage down man
  15. Except that's not at all what I said. His past 2 deadlines have been disasters for one. And that still wasn't what I based my dismissal of any goodwill Stearns has built up. Here are my actual words... "Squandering these Burns and Woodruff years is going to be lamented by Brewers fans for a long time. Ultimately that sin wipes out most if not all the good Stearns has done. " I stand by that. In these years that Burnes and Woodruff have become co-aces, the team has exactly one playoff win. Not one series win, one playoff game won. That does indeed offset much of the good Stearns has done. And no, that's not hyperbolic. One playoff win with this kind of pitching is horrendous. In the past 2 playoff pushes all the man has done is trade for relievers who failed and resulted in bullpens that performed worse than prior to the deadline. That's an unacceptable squandering of talent. And 2020 wasn't exactly a banner year either - a 29-31 record that resulted in a 2-0 wild card sweep out of a playoffs they didn't really belong in.
  16. It turns out I was being generous with that D grade. Never made sense that the entirety of the deadline in terms of aiding the big club was adding relievers while trading the most dominant reliever in baseball. Compounding the fact that for the second consecutive deadline the relievers acquired were duds, nothing was done to improve any other facet of the team. Squandering these Burns and Woodruff years is going to be lamented by Brewers fans for a long time. Ultimately that sin wipes out most if not all the good Stearns has done.
  17. I don't believe there has been any surprise with Bahktiari since he began practicing. I think they knew both he and Jenkins were close and wouldn't need short-term IR. I think Tampa has always been the target for David. We'll find out this week. If he misses this game then we can probably conclude there was a recent setback. Because I don't think they waste the roster spot and forego 4 week IR because they're targeting one game against the Patriots in week 4. Planning to have him for Tampa at the latest is the only thing that makes sense with regard to having him on the initial 53.
  18. Still rather simple. Aside from the rare game when this team strings together a bunch of walks and hits, the team simply doesn't score enough to win without hitting multiple HRs. Usually at least 3. It's not only a losing formula, but makes for an incredibly boring team to watch.
  19. That's exactly what it is and it's been going on for far too long.
  20. What the heck do you expect when the team collapses in a stretch they were playing the Red, Cubs, and Pirates? Combined with a trade deadline so bad that even the players were speaking out. Of course people are going to to be venting. You only seem to be comfortable when everyone is blowing sunshine on this forum. Yes. some of the rants get cringy. But it's even worse when a small handful of posters like yourself try to control the narrative like you're doing for the 1,000th time right now. If there wasn't some frustration being expressed on this fan site right now, it wouldn't be a forum worth visiting.
  21. Ouch. Two straight abysmal deadlines
  22. Disregard, thought Mitchell swung from the right side. Then my mind goes to defense and the assumption that they have Mitchell above Frelick defensively in CF as RedStickBrew mentioned.
  23. Good clarification because I was just about to give you the "?" too, until I saw this.
