  1. There is no way for you to actually know this to be true unless you have a record of the Brewers yearly revenues to compare to their yearly payrolls. Since you've stated this as fact, I will assume you do indeed have that information at your disposal, in which case I would be very curious for the Brewers top three seasons in terms of payroll as a percentage of revenue & also their bottom three seasons. It’s all a guesstimate. And you know that it is. All I’m going to say is if people really knew how much the revenue streams have EXPLODED for all teams not just the crew > shocking.
  2. You are assuming the fan is telling the truth...or that Attanasio was truthful with the fan. Correct that’s exactly what I’m assuming.
  3. I think the point is that having one more starter gives flexibility to either use one of the starters as a way to bolster the bullpen, or insurance against ineffectiveness should one of them prove unready. That's the reason I'd support signing him. But we can’t afford him.
  4. Agree Too valuable starting, TOR brewing.
  5. Crew can’t afford the 10 million, he’d have to take 9.
  6. Or maybe ... and stay with me here ... they've determined that Kimbrel is asking for way too much, and the production doesn't equal the cost. The team has a record payroll (by far actually), yet there are still fans complaining that they aren't spending more. This team has been a contender more often than it hasn't under Attanasio's ownership, yet we have fans that are calling him a cheap liar. I'm sorry, but that is just flat out wrong. Then why tell a fan we’re trying to get him? If that’s the case just say you’ve moved on. Their payroll as a % of their revenue(now this is truly record- breaking, their revenue) isn’t record breaking. The payroll is, that’s all. There are much worse owners in baseball than Attanasio, but don’t play the fans, and say what’s really not true. Be honest.
  7. Agree, people can decide for themselves.
  8. Bring Brown up to replace Barnes, and Fields ASAP to replace Williams If last year‘s first 65 innings Jeffress done for the year, then we need to consider Nelson in pen, or trade. Besides brown the crew has reinforcements that can be brought up as the year progresses so that’s a positive We just need to get our pen through this next month or two. Brown and fields should help, and the potential is certainly there with Wilson and Albers. Then Guerra and Anderson and it’s not looking so bad.
  9. Wow thanks for that Adam, and thanks to tom h for his response. If Haudricourt right Brewers not gonna budge any more on payroll. Forget kimbrel I said what I think in spending thread
  10. If Haudricourt is right and brewers have a maxed pre-deadline payroll at 122, then Attanasio IS playing us. His comment of we’re “all in” and telling a fan “we’re trying” to land kimbrel are hollow “words”. They mean nothing. The brewerfan that compared Mark A to pt Barnum and then crushed for said comment was right. What would be closer to the truth would be the following: Attanasio and his investors have a hard cap payroll and they not going to truly go “all in”and go past that cap. They have decided the pre-determined profit which conservatively IF you include last year’s playoff revenue north of 30 mil is firm. It’s his team not ours and he can do with it what he wants. Spend whatever do whatever. It’s his business not ours. Mark A just be honest. Let me help you: The brewers need to make a certain profit each and every year no matter the circumstances, injuries are a part of the game, and I expect my gm/pobo to overcome said injuries without upping our payroll any further. Now that would be the truth. I would respect that, wouldn’t like it, but it is his team and he can do with it what he wants. Now me, I’m a fan of the team. 35 yrs longer than Mark A actually, and when I see a World Series team - this year’s brewers- in a 2 week span lose 2 of the best closers in baseball, and have said owner use hollow words to string me along.......I’m going to speak the truth and call him out. Maybe his son, who grew up a fan unlike his father, will be like a mike ilitch, and if givin similar circumstances say screw it and for ONE year say screw the yearly profit and let’s go win it.
  11. If Haudricourt’s right then these so called “serious negotiations”haven’t been that at all, and I would say a total waste of Kimbrel’s time. If I were him I’d be seething. Well, the season is three games old, and he doesn't have a job. If he's seething, the only one he has to blame is himself, because he overshot his market. I changed my verb to annoyed, but your right in that him and his agent did overshoot his market. I mean the 6 and 100 early on silly. But to be sitting here on opening weekend and have the perfect storm of the “no kimbrel market” taking place is also silly. In all likelihood, if Tom H correct, I think he’d sign if we’d up our offer to 15+ mil.

  13. Ok snarky then he was. I do appreciate their coverage too. My only complaint would be when he’s fed the company line he at least would have a hint of skepticism. I know has to walk a fine line, but just a hint once in while would be nice.
  14. So Tom Haudricourt is mad at Brewers Twitter and Brewerfan.net, so he's teamed up with Brewers Owner Mark Attanasio to put out a story to insult the portion of the teams fanbase who wants them to sign Kimbrel? That's a little bit out there ... Didn’t literally get together with mark no, I think you know I was being facetious. But yeah he’s irritated at brewerfan. Can’t say I blame him, he is crushed a lot here. Read beginning of article and tell me there’s no condescension.
  15. To fans that don’t think the brewers are the small market revenue team of the PAST. Saying fans want the team to sign Kuechel and Kimbrel then using bankruptcy to describe that type of spending. Yeah ok tom. He’s angry at twitter and brewerfan. Read it again.
  16. As has been mentioned a lot, there is no indication that Kimbrel would accept a 1-year deal for any amount of money. It's all speculation. Personally, I think if he were willing to sign a short-term deal, he'd be on a team. Not according to some of the real baseball writers, Heyman said kimbrel in trouble. No ones offering him a competitive one year offer. Braves haven’t even made a formal offer. I believe poster’s friend that said crew offer 2 at 20 or 3 at 30. That fits the Haudricourt crew only 9 mil to spend. Haudricourt article condescending.
  17. Albers did look good! Thinking he can help hold things together till we get kimbrel signed and Nelson back.
  18. You are really letting this get to you. I agree that Tom may be speculating quite a bit in this article, but it is also 100% possible that they have determined what their spending limit is, and signing Kimbrel just isn't fiscally in the cards. I mean, as long as Kimbrel doesn't have a team, I suppose there's a chance he might end up in Milwaukee, but I personally think that chance diminishes with each passing day of the season. Then they need to up their spending limit for this ONE year. This is a unique and exceptional year with one of the elite teams in baseball with a unforeseen massive backend pen weakness that can be solved with one player signed. There are no bad one year deals in baseball.
  19. Can’t afford him. Nope. Haudricourt said crew only afford to spend 9 mil on kimbrel. Not happening according to Tom. Although a day after he said brewers probably wouldn’t do anything big > they signed Grandal.
  20. Haudricourt still has small marketitis, he was shocked the crew signed Grandal for goodness sakes. Article ridiculous, over the top asinine, seems like he and Attanasio got together to write that article. Is this supposed to be in blue? Why do you say that? I’ve read his article 3 times, each time it gets sillier. Crew can’t even afford 9 mil!! Come on, why would he say something so asinine? He can’t be THAT ignorant can he? If he is,someone needs to tell him to do a little cursory research and have at least a HINT of skepticism towards the brewers owner.
