  1. That's a good point. It's a little tricky finding a spot for Shaw with 2B/3B covered and not good options for a platoon. Aguilar's raking again this month (1.161 OPS), so I guess you have to hope that continues and you get to the point that you prefer Shaw to Thames on the roster and can find a trade partner for Thames.
  2. You weren't joking. He's actually been pretty consistently ridiculous all season once you get past April: [pre]Month AB 2B 3B HR SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS ----- --- -- -- -- -- -- ---- ---- ---- ----- May 87 11 1 3 8 1 .345 .414 .598 1.012 June 105 7 2 2 5 2 .352 .415 .514 .930 July 60 5 1 3 5 0 .383 .431 .650 1.081 Split AB 2B 3B HR SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS ----- --- -- -- -- -- -- ---- ---- ---- ----- vs. L 94 7 0 1 2 1 .266 .317 .372 .689 vs. R 224 17 4 9 18 3 .344 .418 .576 .994[/pre] His splits definitely favor righty matchups, but that's the majority of appearances, compliments Arcia as a soft platoon, and he's not completely useless against lefties. And as mentioned, he's played all over the field: LF (20 starts), CF (18), 2B (12), 3B (10), 1B (10), SS (8), RF (3) I'm game for a Saladino/Spangenberg swap. If nothing else, this team should have some really nice depth and options in September.
  3. I agree with Giannis. He's only 24, coming off an MVP season, and he still looks raw. The guy is unfathomably probably going to get better in a league where one guy legitimately can make a team. He'll attract other players to the team and the Bucks will remain relevant as long as he's on the team. Yelich on the other hand is already in his prime years and will be 31 when he becomes a free agent. The track record for baseball players remaining valuable into their mid-30's on huge contracts isn't pretty. Stearns pulled a rabbit out of his hat when he got Yeli going into his prime with *five* years remaining on his contract. We got him for the exact years you want a guy like that and extending him further is asking for disappointment and diminishing returns. Enjoy four MVP-calibar years and the boat load of prospects someone will give up for him in year five. The return we get for him could bring back another "Yelich" and another handful of players to usher in another window of opportunity for a team that can't afford to "buy" championships.
  4. I suspect 99.9% of the message boards in sports are the same way. Pretty much Human Nature. That's probably true, but I suspect it's only about 2% of the posters that make it that way. Anyways... GO BREWERS!!!
  5. I don't know who you're referring to but I've been saying Grandal sucks at calling pitches since game one with us. You're safe, pretty sure he was talking about people that joined the board more than two weeks ago
  6. I was thinking Manny Parra. I think it's time to get Will Inman back in the organization
  7. I wasn't able to watch the Derby last night, so I just finished it now. I thought it was awesome. The Vladdy/Joc round was amazing, loved it.
  8. I'm not totally opposed to your logic, however, I think you are overrating every player you've mentioned the Brewers receiving. Bauer has a very mediocre 4.32 xFIP "right now" and has had several non-ace quality starts scattered throughout the season where he's given up at least seven earned runs twice, at least five earned runs four times, and at least four earned runs seven times. I still like him and would love him on the staff, but I think he's far from the "ultimate ace" or a guaranteed thing. As for the prospects, I know MLB's prospect rankings aren't the end-all, be-all, but only two of them barely scrape the top 100 list and non of them are expected to reach the majors for at least two more years as they're all in A+ right now. Regardless, it's a nice package, but if I'm giving up 4.5 seasons of Hader, I want to be completely blown out of the water and that doesn't do it for me.
  9. What’s better for this team, an Ace for 2 playoffs, and 2 stud pitchers plus a stud outfielder? or Hader for 4 yrs and Burnes and Ray and Supek. I want the guaranteed Ace for two years, with prospects that have more upside. 1.) I would rather have an ace for 2 playoffs + Hader for 5 playoffs, so I'd at least nix the Hader deal if I was going to do any of this at all 2.) With one "ace-like" year last year surrounded by meh-to-goodish years the rest of his career, what makes Bauer a "guaranteed ace"? 3.) If you want to replenish the farm system, why trade away significant roster pieces now when you could wait til after the season (or after next season, or after the season after next season, or...)
  10. From the trade simulator site: [sarcasm]Discussion over[/sarcasm]
  11. [sarcasm]Done![/sarcasm]
  12. I wonder how the team ranks if you combine homegrown players with players obtained by trading homegrown players. It gets a little murky including trades since you might send some players that are homegrown and some players that were obtained other ways, but just because the players you drafted didn't make it to the bigs for your own team, doesn't mean they were busts if they are good enough to obtain other talent for them.
  13. So... is it fair to say that if you can't fully enjoy the game if they automate the strike zone, then you're no longer a baseball fan as well? There are literally about a thousand things I care more about keeping in tact in baseball than allowing umps to make incorrect calls.
  14. We would have had a guy on base for Braun's homer if Hiura was batting first or second. Do you understand now? Ahhh... because Hiura will be replacing Cain or Yelich in the lineup. Got it Everyone would love to have Hiura up, doesn't need to be related to everything that goes bad ever though.
  15. Yelich vs. lefties ('16 - '18): .814 OPS Grandal vs. lefties ('16 - '18): .724 OPS Moustakas vs. lefties ('16 - '18): .746 OPS --- Braun vs. lefties ('16 - '18): .917 OPS Aguilar vs. lefties ('16 - '18): .908 OPS Cain vs. lefties ('16 - '18): .933 OPS If we're looking at numbers before this season, I'm pretty cool with those numbers as well. Again, I'm not arguing that Hiura's not an improvement (and I doubt the Brewers would argue against that either), just this seems to be higher on people's lists of concerns than it probably needs to be for something that's only temporary and only against a quarter of the competition. We've got lefties mashing lefties, righties that are likely to hit better against lefties moving forward, Hiura's going to be up again, Perez can hold fort in the meantime (and help fill in later), let's see if we can figure out a way to get the starting pitching out of the bottom half of the league.
  16. The stats I replied to your comment with were full season stats. They're 6th in the NL in OPS against lefties this season (last year they were 4th in the NL) and that's with three players that have mashed lefties the past two/three seasons underperforming in that category thus far this year. If those guys get going like they usually do (and it looks like Aguilar's at least starting to show something), then this team is looking very good against LHP.
  17. If you wanted the individual player stats against lefties since June 3rd, check this out: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/splits-leaderboards?splitArr=1,218&splitArrPitch=&position=B&autoPt=false&splitTeams=false&statType=player&statgroup=2&startDate=2019-06-03&endDate=2019-11-01&players=&filter=
  18. This is what you're looking for: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/splits-leaderboards?splitArr=1&splitArrPitch=&position=B&autoPt=false&splitTeams=false&statType=team&statgroup=2&startDate=2019-06-03&endDate=2019-11-01&players=&filter= They're 7th in MLB with an .836 OPS against lefties since June 3rd.
  19. And yet as a team they're 6th in the NL with a .791 OPS against lefties. You may not like the distribution, but you've got three guys in the middle of the order mashing them (Yelich 1.062 OPS, Grandal 1.007 OPS, and Moustakas .922 OPS) and you have Perez doing just fine with a .803 OPS. So with Moustakas and Perez covering 2B/3B, there's not a huge drop in production without Hiura. The real problem causing the depth issue is that there are a handful of guys that are uncharacteristically struggling against lefties this year: Aguilar (.889 OPS in '17, .929 OPS in '18), Braun (1.010 OPS in '16, .872 OPS in '17, .863 OPS in '18), and Cain (1.016 OPS in '16, .824 OPS in '17, .979 OPS in '18) and you're not going to replace them with Hiura (or move Perez to their positions) when he's brought up anyways. If those guys get going, this lineup is insane against lefties. In the meantime, the team is holding its own against lefties regardless and there are much more pressing concerns in the pitching department to address.
  20. Hernan Perez vs. LHP: 2016 - .787 OPS in 153 ABs 2017 - .789 OPS in 120 ABs 2018 - .783 OPS in 125 ABs 2019 - .803 OPS in 69 ABS He's not a masher by any means, but he's been pretty consistently good versus lefties the past three and half years and certainly is a useful player in that role. It's not a permanent move, I think it's fine for a short term solution until they want to bring Hiura up for good. Also, as a team since Hiura was demoted, the Brewers are OPS'ing .836 versus lefties (7th best in the majors). So while I can't disagree the team isn't better with Hiura on it, I don't feel like the argument that the team is awful against lefties is a valid one.
  21. Name the RH batter on the team who you think is better right now. It's more a statement of how bad the state of the team's RH batting is than a statement of how good Hiura is yet. I do believe he's going to be an elite bat but it's not a high bar to be the best RH in the Brewers organization right now. All the more reason why he should be in Milwaukee. I presume your actual concern isn't our RH bats, but our batting against LHP? I think plenty of guys are doing just fine in that department:
  22. It makes draft day more fun, but a lot of bad things have to happen to have 7 picks in the first day. For the Brewers that would have been something like, 1.) Not being able to sign Turang last year, 2.) Not signing Grandal, 3.) Not trading for Claudio (of course that's only questionably a bad thing), 4.) Having a couple QO-caliber players, like Yelich and Hader, up for FA and losing them I get what you're saying, but realistically, we're probably doing better if we're not in that scenario.
  23. Ha, close, they probably would have gotten back from the break in time if they had gone to it right away, but they waited just long enough so it'll probably go into the pick.
