  1. Yeah I wonder if those complaining about the payroll feel better about the season now that they've spent more money (assuming his salary increase happens this year)
  2. Holy moly. I'll eat crow, I thought this wasn't even close to being in the cards, especially on a deal that only goes to his age 34 year? I thought they'd have to go further into his late 30's, so I'm not as concerned about it souring as I would have been. Pretty cool to see!
  3. If Woodruff/Anderson/Houser/Lindblom really are locks and Peralta's making the team one way or another, you have to believe they've pretty much already decided then that the rotation is going to start off as Woodruff/Anderson/Houser/Lindblom/Peralta with Lauer and Burnes going to AAA. It doesn't seem necessarily "fair" to the players and possibly not even the best major league team they could put together to begin the season, but it does optimize their ability to allow everyone to have a chance to show if they belong in the rotation in the long run and could pay dividends in making sure they have the best rotation possible later in the year rather than pigeon-holing anyone into a bullpen spot right away.
  4. Lindblom didn't look very sharp today, but he managed to battle through 3 IP while giving up only 1 ER.
  5. Nice seeing Ray pop one there. Not really counting on him at this point, but he still has the tools to be a bonus if he ever clicks, either as an asset on the team or in trade.
  6. What's the question? If it's a longterm shortstop, I think Urias is the answer. If it's a productive bat playing SS for the first half of the year and insurance for Urias in the second half, I think Holt/Sogard are quite possibly capable. That said, I also hope Arcia keeps it up!
  7. Going to be interesting to see how Counsell handles things if Lauer/Peralta/Burnes continue pitching well this Spring: Small sample starts to the Spring: Lauer - 5.1 IP, 1.69 ERA, 9 Ks Peralta - 5.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 5 Ks Burnes - 3.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 3 Ks Houser - 3.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 4 Ks Lindblom - 3.0 IP, 6.00 ERA, 4 Ks Anderson - 3.0 IP, 3.00 ERA, 2 Ks Woodruff - 3.0 IP, 3.00 ERA, 2 Ks Hopefully they all look rotation worthy and it's just a matter of rotation/pen/AAA-to-stay-stretched-out for each, but kind of wish CC hadn't put out those insinuated "locks." Especially since all things equal I would probably lean towards grooming Peralta/Burnes/Lauer all as starters over Lindblom/Houser.
  8. Lauer off to a nice start today. Three punchouts in a scoreless first.
  9. Streak over, but I'll take the victory!
  10. 100 pt streak in serious jeopardy
  11. Both YouTubeTV and Hulu Live were/are about $55/mo. The way I may end up going is: 1.) One of the Sling packages to get some general channels for $30/mo (+ perhaps the $10 sports addon to get MLB Network), 2.) MLB.TV single team package for $94 (or get all teams for $120), and 3.) NBA League Pass single team package for $18/mo (only needed for appx 6 months per year). That adds up to basically a $47/mo package over the course of a year ($57 if I tack on Sling sports). That said, I'm also in Maryland, so MLB.TV and NBA League Pass may have blackout restriction problems for others.
  12. This sucks as the ability to get Bucks and Brewers game through it was a huge reason I've been a customer for them... guess it's time to go back to MLB.TV...
  13. Ummm... okay, sounds like Fox Sports Wisconsin might be going away from YouTube TV in a couple days:
  14. What the hank was this guy doing that he broke a rib? That gives me the impression that he's not taking baseball seriously enough. It was a stress fracture which happened while rehabbing from another injury. Sounds like it's an injury that's most common among athletes and can happen from increasing weights during workouts, so doesn't sound like he was out flipping dune buggies or something.
  15. They've got Holt playing SS again today. I thought with Urias out, Arcia was going to be pretty much handed that spot to start the season, but they may be taking a good look at Holt. A Gyorko/Sogard (3B), Holt (SS) left side of the infield vs righties, and Gyorko (3B), Sogard (SS) vs lefties to start the year wouldn't look too bad. 2018-19 vs. RHP 2018-19 vs. LHP
  16. I'm guessing he got to start at 2 IP because he's still warmed up from winter ball, which is also why they made sure to get the other guys in earlier and let him wait an extra couple days for his debut.
  17. Gotta love Spring Training Gameday...
  18. Todays' split squad lineups: vs. Angels Sogard - 3B Hiura - 2B García - RF Holt - SS Piña - C Morrison - DH Healy - 1B Ray - CF Mathias - LF Woodruff - P vs. A's Gamel - LF Arcia - SS Smoak - 1B Rodríguez - 2B Peterson - RF Freitas - C Broxton - CF Erceg - 3B Feliciano - DH Burnes - P Nice to see Healy getting some playing time in the field already. If he has a nice spring he could potentially add some unexpected (positive) complication to the 3rd base picture. Also interesting to see Holt getting reps at SS his first time out.
  19. 2019 Options 8+ (based on games started): I think you may be over-emphasizing the demise of the rotation based on who may be the 8th option. It wouldn't take much for him to outproduce the guys we had filling those starts last year, not to mention Stearns has been pretty adept at grabbing a guy or two in season if needbe, which would push Miller even further down the line if he hasn't shown he's having a bounce back season.
  20. Brewers Twitter has released our first lineup of the Spring. Interesting that Healy's in there already, albeit as a DH, regardless let's go baseball! Arcia - SS Narváez - C Gamel - RF Healy - DH Morrison - 1B Broxton - CF Peterson - LF Rodríguez - 2B Erceg - 3B Anderson - P
  21. Just curious, do *you* think the Bucks should consider a coaching change under these scenarios? Or do you just think ownership may consider it? In regards to expectations, maybe the timing was coincidental with Giannis coming into his own and the right pieces being added to the team, or maybe it was my longtime pessimistic view of the Bucks, but I certainly had no championship aspirations for this team before I saw what Coach Bud was able to do with them. The change from the Kidd years to Bud's arrival has been so instantaneously stark I can't imagine not attributing a large portion of that to the coaching. It's pretty unfathomable to me to think a coaching change would somehow improve this teams' chances of winning a championship.
  22. I'm counting 13 position players there already and I think you've got that nailed (at least until Urias is ready to go). The last pitcher spot (or even the last ~4 pitcher spots) is a total crapshoot and I'm sure will be completely dependent on Spring performances and what they decide to do with the starters to begin the year, etc. Not to mention, Stearns loves grabbing a reliever right before the season starts, so there's a good chance that 26th man isn't on the roster yet. Regardless, Counsell is going to have so much fun putting together lineups this year, can't wait to see it all play out!
  23. I don't know how to complain too much about the drop in payroll when it looks like they managed to maintain a similar amount of talent on the roster. I understand it feels like they could have done more because of the room they created, but I think they're more where they are, not because they CAN'T go over $100M, but because the deals they would have liked to make weren't there in this market. I'm sure if they could have gotten Grandal back at something like 2/$40 w/ a 3rd year option, they would have done that. And if any 1 year Grandal/Moustakas-type deals had fallen into their laps they may have jumped on that as well. A couple of those type deals would have shot them right back up into the $120-130M range, but they just weren't there for them this year and there's no reason to add payroll just to add payroll and hamstring themselves moving forward. All in all, I think they did a great job replacing talent on the roster and leaving themselves with payroll relief/flexibility. It's definitely going to be interesting seeing how it all plays out this year!
  24. I think I just hate the term "crying poor". He was asked if they lost money last year and he said yes. They've demonstrated for years now that their plan to maintain a competitive team requires them to evaluate players' values and not overpay for players based on those evaluations. They've shown that when a player becomes available at the price they deem worthwhile, they will spend the money to obtain them, even if it puts them over budget. In the absence of a bigger name player that was obtainable at a price they felt was beneficial, they were able to rebuild the team incrementally with players that they deemed more valuable at their acquisition costs than the more expensive players available on the market. All this seems very responsible, logical, and in the best interest of the longterm success of the team. "Crying poor" makes it sound like a whiny excuse for not overpaying for players, which I'm glad they haven't done.
