  1. To me, Wiemer’s a potential 30HR / 30SB / 170K guy with a terrific arm for right field. The challenge is that it may take him 2-3 years for his bat to come around at the MLB level. I’d earlier estimated that we’ll option him to AAA for about 74 days in 2024 for service time manipulation…er…to let him work on improving his overall hitting. But if we can get another insane Ruiz-for-Contreras type deal, we’ll have to take it.
  2. CDR kept rolling on Tuesday: - CF Carlos D. Rodriguez - 2-for-4, double, 2 walks, 3 runs - in Magallanes’ back-and-forth 12-11 loss to Aragua - INF Yonny Hernandez - pinch ran, stole a base for Aragua - C Brian Navarreto - 0-for-3, walk; also threw out 2 runners - in Carolina’s 2-1 loss to Caguas
  3. I feel like the only person who believes a Donaldson reunion may happen. Cheap flier looking for homers without wrecking defense. Might depend on whether Murphy believes in his ability to contribute and not screw up clubhouse chemistry. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/11/josh-donaldson-open-to-playing-another-season.html
  4. Generally positive Sunday performances: - CF Carlos D. Rodriguez - 2-for-6, double, 2 walks, 2 runs - in Magallanes’ doubleheader defeat to Lara - C Brian Navarreto - 2-for-6, double, 2 RBIs; threw out 1-of-2 basestealers - in Carolina’s exciting 10-5, 12-inning win over Santurce - RHP Christian Mejias - 2 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 0 Ks - in Aragua’s 10-7 victory over Zulia
  5. Brisbane got off the schneid with a 3-1 win this morning over Adelaide. 1B Tayden Hall went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Based on their schedule, the next game will be on Thursday morning.
  6. More terrific performances on Saturday: - CF Jackson Chourio - 1-for-3, walk, run in Zulia’s 3-1 win over Aragua - CF Carlos D. Rodriguez - 2-for-4, 2 doubles, walk, RBI, run - in Magallanes’ thrilling 11-10 victory over La Guaira - C Brian Navaretto - 1-for-4, double, 2 RBIs - in Carolina’s 4-2 win over RA12
  7. RHP Miguel Segura was signed as a 17-year old out of Venezuela in July 2019, but only debuted in July 2021 after the Covid wipeout. Just 18 innings (1.50 ERA, 25 Ks) in the Dominican Summer League were enough for the Brewers to bring him stateside to Arizona the next month, where he continued to excel: 1.86 ERA in 19.1 IP with 22 Ks. The 2022 season was a bit rougher, taking on the Low-A Carolina challenge over 22 games (10 starts): 4.38 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, 7.8 K/9. Unfortunately, Miguel was injured in late August 2022, was apparently injured again in 2023 Minor League Spring Training, then proceeded to miss the entire 2023 season. We hope that 21-year old Miguel Segura is fully healthy now and ready to take on his next opportunity.
  8. Solid Friday night for Brewers in Latin America. In addition to Chourio (see above): - RHP Edwin Jimenez - 3.2 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 K - in Aguilas’ win - DH Brian Navarreto returned after missing a few games - 2-for-3, double, walk, RBI - in Carolina’s 4-1 victory over Santurce
  9. On Friday, Tayden Hall played 1B and hit clean-up, going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. However, Brisbane was blasted 12-1 by Adelaide. Better luck next game!
  10. I noted the intriguing 2023 AAA numbers as well, but just had a look. Shoot. That was at the start of the season, before the MLB time. He ended 2023 with 100 MLB PAs in Aug/Sep: 8 BB / 41 Ks - .154 AVG / .220 OBP / .275 SLG. Oh man...
  11. We must really believe that Bauers is about to get better. I’m guessing this also pushes us closer to trading Mitchell or Perkins.
  12. Opening Day lineup for Brisbane against Adelaide:
  13. Wednesday activity: - CF Jackson Chourio - 0-for-3, walk, run - in Zulia’s 5-1 victory over Lara - CF Carlos D. Rodriguez - 1-for-3, walk - in Magallanes’ 3-2 win over Caracas
  14. In late 2021, Gillaspie himself had tweeted about the 2019 release, but it seems that's since been deleted. If I recall, he was dealing with an injury and rehab, the Brewers offered reasonable support but weren't willing to keep holding a roster spot for him. Maybe we didn't think he'd make a full recovery or maybe we seriously under-valued him due to his late 2019 shift to the bullpen. Probably a bit of both.
  15. Not as much to smile at in Tuesday’s games: - CF Jackson Chourio - 0-for-4 in Zulia’s 4-0 loss to Lara - CF Carlos D. Rodriguez - 0-for-4 in Magallanes’ 9-5 defeat to Margarita - RHP Christian Mejias - 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks (ERA still 0.00) - in Aragua’s 4-2 loss to Caracas - RHP JC Mejia - 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K - in Licey’s 8-7 victory over Aguilas Cibaenas
  16. More Chourio success and Jimenez struggles on Sunday: CF Jackson Chourio - 3-for-5, triple, double, 3 RBIs - in Zulia's 6-2 victory over Magallanes CF Carlos D. Rodriguez - 1-for-4 - in Magallanes' defeat LF Hedbert Perez - 2-for-5, RBI, run - made the most of his first start, though La Guaira fell 7-6 to Lara in extra innings RHP Edwin Jimenez - 2 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks (ERA 10.38) - in La Guaira's loss
  17. Limited Saturday activity: CF Jackson Chourio - 1-for-2, walk, HBP, run (.366 AVG) - in Zulia's 6-2 loss to Magallanes CF Carlos D. Rodriguez - 1-for-4, HBP, run, caught stealing (.306 AVG) - in Magallanes' victory LF Hedbert Perez - 0-for-1 off the bench in La Guaira's 9-0 defeat to Lara
  18. DH Wes Clarke was hit-by-pitch and scored in the Saguaros 4-run 5th inning, then doubled in a run in the 6th inning as his team opened up a 6-1 lead. As @markedman5 indicated, things got rough in the 9th inning, with a Rangers pitcher conceding 3 walks, then LHP Justin King not faring much better (walk, ground out, 2-run single). RHP Justin Yeager needed only three pitches to earn the Save in their 6-5 championship victory over Peoria. Summary of top performers. DH Wes Clarke - 1-for-3, double, walk, HBP, RBI, run SS Eric Brown Jr. - 0-for-4, walk LHP Justin King - 0.1 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 Ks RHP Justin Yeager (Save) - 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K
  19. Decent production on Friday, but we need to monitor Navarreto’s availability: - CF Carlos D. Rodriguez - 3-for-4, double, walk, 2 RBIs - in Magallanes’ 9-6 victory over Lara. His 8th inning double pushed the lead from 5-3 to 7-3 - C Brian Navarreto - 1-for-3, but exited in the 5th inning after he was out at 2nd base on a double play ball - in Carolina’s 5-4 win over Caguas - RHP Christian Mejias - 1.2 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 2 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks (ERA still 0.00) - in Aragua’s 5-4 win over La Guaira
  20. Solid win for Surprise in their final regular season game, leading 6-1 before giving up a few runs in the 9th inning to prevail 6-4 over Glendale. We should see our young men in action one more time in Saturday's AFL championship game against Peoria or Scottsdale. SS Eric Brown Jr. - 2-for-4, HR, double, RBI DH Wes Clarke -2-for-3, double, RBI LHP Justin King - 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 Ks - retired all 3 batters
  21. Thursday action: CF Jackson Chourio - 2-for-4, walk - Zulia came from from a 7-1 deficit to tie the game in the 8th inning, but lost 8-7 to Anzoategui CF Carlos D. Rodriguez - 2-for-5 - in Magallanes' 4-1 defeat to Margarita RF Hedbert Perez 0-for-1 - came off the bench in La Guaira's 6-3 loss to Aragua
  22. Signed RHP Jose Nova and assigned to DSL Brewers 1 It appears this is the same 6'5" pitcher that the Red Sox signed in 2021 out of the Dominican Republic. He's yet to officially debut and will be 22 years old in April, so perhaps Nova will make the quick climb to Arizona?
  23. 20-year old OF Hedbert Perez is healthy (last played 18 July 2023) and has joined Tiburones de La Guaira in Venezuela. He actually debuted in Tuesday's 9-1 loss to Caracas, coming off the bench, playing left field and going 0-for-2:
  24. Brisbane has an exhibition game today and it looks like LHP Brian Fitzpatrick and 1B Tayden Hall are both starting:
