  1. In Biloxi, Rocket City's manager was tossed before the game started, which is hopefully a good omen (knock on wood). Jackson Chourio has two line drive singles to right field, the latter doubling the Shuckers' early lead at 2-0. Thus far, it looks like we're getting the good version of TJ Shook (knock on wood again) - no hits for the Trash Pandas through 3 innings.
  2. It's a back-and-forth finale in Louisville. Nashville trailed 1-0 after the 1st inning and 3-1 after four innings, but turned it around with 3 runs on 4 singles in the 5th inning. A solo homer off of rehabbing Justin Wilson tied it back up at 4-4 in the 8th inning. Toro, Hiura and VanMeter are due up in the 9th. Luis Urias has singled and walked 4 times, but the Sounds have stranded 10 baserunners. Robert Gasser conceded 3 runs and 9 hits in 5 IP, registering 8 strikeouts.
  3. LHP Robert Gasser (3.94 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 in 80 IP) returns from suspension for AAA Nashville for his first proper action since July 1, with the team needing to avoid a 3-0 sweep in Louisville. CF Monte Harrison is playing for the first time since June 11.
  4. - LHP Robert Gasser of AAA Nashville activated from suspended list
  5. Ugh. A walk, single, 3-run homer off Merkel put Wisconsin right back in a 10-7 hole. But Joe Gray Jr. has homered to grab one back. Now down 10-8 in the bottom of the 7th inning.
  6. The AA Shuckers’ home series against Rocket City also hangs in the balance at 1-1. Let’s see how RHP TJ Shook (5.80 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 11.8 K/9 in 45 IP) performs on proper rest. CF Jackson Chourio has 3 straight multi-hit games (6-for-13, 2 HRs, double).
  7. While Nick Merkel keeps the Chiefs bats quiet (well, thru 2 innings of work), Je’Von Ward now homers to tie it 7-7. To the bottom of the 6th inning they go.
  8. Wisconsin grabs 3 runs back in the 5th inning on 3 hits (including Ben Metzinger 2-run double) and an HBP. Trailing just 7-6 now.
  9. The Low-A Mudcats will try to grab a 2-1 series win in Myrtle Beach, with RHP Will Childers (4.79 ERA with 16 Ks in 20.2 IP) making his 3rd start (7th appearance). SS Gregory Barrios is 8-for-21 in his 5-game hitting streak.
  10. That frame ended with 4 runs in, Rattlers trailing 7-2. Ernesto Martinez then pulled one back with an oppo solo shot. 7-3. RHP Nick Merkel comes in for the 4th inning.
  11. Yeah, that 3rd inning went about as badly as I’d feared: double and 4 singles off Jimenez to start the frame…nobody out…
  12. Rough start again for Edwin Jimenez. He didn’t allow 3 or more runs in any of his first 12 games this year (3-6 innings pitched in each game), but has now allowed at least 3 runs in each of his last 5 outings. Today, he’s allowed 7 players to reach in the first 2 innings, though 2 GIDPs limited the damage to 3 runs. And Wisconsin has answered back with 2 runs in the top of the 3rd inning, spurred by a Jheremy Vargas single and Robert Moore double. So we’re only down 3-2 going into the bottom of the 3rd inning, with the struggling Jimenez coming back out.
  13. - OF/INF Jahmai Jones recalled to MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville - LHP Brandon Knarr transferred to 60-day injured list from 7-day injured list - RHP Harold Chirino transferred to 60-day injured list from 7-day injured list - RHP Miguel Segura transferred to 60-day injured list from 7-day injured list - RHP Kevin Briceno transferred to 60-day injured list from 7-day injured list - RHP Jared Albir transferred to 60-day injured list from 7-day injured list - RHP Domingo Mejia transferred to 60-day injured list from 7-day injured list
  14. The High-A Timber Rattlers get us started in Peoria today, with RHP Edwin Jimenez (3.58 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 70.1 IP) aiming to lead the team to a 2-1 series win. 2B Jheremy Vargas returns after last playing 8 days ago.
  15. Gotta be frustrating for switch-hitting Abraham Toro to not get the call ahead of Jahmai Jones to replace Brian Anderson. Toro, you know, actually plays 3rd base! April OPS: .682 May OPS: .775 June OPS: .819 July OPS: .977 OPS against LHP: .800 OPS against RHP: .768
  16. The recent RBI Baseball numbers being put up in the ACL make it difficult to know what to think of all the 1.000-level OPS’. 16 hits in their 10-8 loss to ACL Royals means the ACL Brewers have produced 25 runs and 36 hits in their last 2 games. Of course, they’ve also conceded 26 runs on 24 hits in the 2 games. Each of CF Reidy Mercado, rehabbing SS Daniel Guilarte and DH/C Satchell Norman reached base 4 times, all they all await the call to (or back to, in Guilarte’s case) Low-A Carolina.
  17. From Nashville’s 8-1 loss at Louisville, you might not expect that RHP Janson Junk had a decent game: 6 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 6 H, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 4 Ks. As for players hoping for a call-up, only 1B Abraham Toro helped his cause: 2-for-2, 2 walks. None of Frelick, Jones, Hiura, Urias, Bukauskas or Megill achieved much.
  18. Pannone wanted to make more $$ in Korea. He’d been outrighted in 2020, so could reject an assignment to AAA after the Brewers DFA’d him.
  19. Darn, a walk, stolen base and single drive in the winning run for Myrtle Beach. Mudcats fall 6-5. Nice comeback attempt, but stranded too many runners throughout (10 vs. 3 for the Pelicans).
  20. Jadher Areinamo comes through again, this time with a 2-run single with 2 outs in the top of the 9th inning, on the 7th pitch of his at-bat. That ties it up 5-5. He’s 3-for-5 on the day. Down to their final out, the Mudcats got an HBP and 2 walks before Areinamo’s hit. RHP Jeison Pena is trying to get it to extra innings with a clean bottom frame.
  21. A walk, double (Ben Metzinger) and 3 singles in the 7th inning deliver 3 runs for the Timber Rattlers, who now lead 4-3. Jacob Misiorowski pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned), K’ing 4 Chiefs.
  22. Two walks, two errors and a passed ball cost Carolina 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, including RHP Jesus Rivero throwing a ball away when he could have escaped tied. Instead, the Mudcats trail 5-3. C Blayberg Diaz exited after 5 1/2 innings - hopefully he’s okay.
  23. The Mudcats have battled back to grab a 3-2 lead in the top of the 7th inning. Kay-Lan Nicasia walked, stole his 20th base (sneaky, didn’t realize he was doing that well) and scored on a Gregory Barrios RBI double. Logan Henderson went 5 innings strong, K’ing 8 Pelicans.
  24. The game’s into the 6th inning already (1-0 Shuckers), but here’s that lineup card for RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez and AA Biloxi. They’re looking for a win at home over Rocket City to even the series 1-1. C Jeferson Quero entered with an 18-game on-base streak.
  25. We’ve got RHP Logan Henderson (2.86 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 11.7 K/9 in 34.2 IP) tonight too, aiming to lead Low-A Carolina to a 2-0 series advantage at Myrtle Beach. 2B Jadher Areinamo is having a nice run of form: 13-for-last-31 with No Strikeouts and 2 walks.
