  1. I am in the minority as I feel his accomplishments do not merit a HOF spot (in my opinion, if it takes this long to get elected, there's a reason). Having said that, I think now that he was elected, it really is rather worthless. I know that's not politically correct, but a deceased man whose passion was to be a HOF'er being nominated almost a year from his death is just wrong. It's as if they waited for this to happen in order to justify his election. If I were in Santo's family, I'd thank them and boycott the ceremony.
  2. I think we'll see Ramirez in a Brewers uniform by week's end. I'd be happy with that upgrade at 3B and take my chances with Gamel at 1B full-time. I am more concerned about SS because all indications have Betancourt coming back (I'd guess on a 1-yr deal). Melvin seems to be going out of his way to "sell" Yuni to the fans proclaiming he's not "as bad as most people make him out to be"...great salespitch, Doug. I will be very, very disappointed if he's the best they can come up with in FA.
  3. Losing out on Reyes doesn't bother me much. I think we may look back and say thank god, we just dodged a bullet there. His SB's have decreased in the last few years and I am very concerned about his injury-risk moving forward. I'd rather focus on the likes of Furcal, whom I would've loved to see in Brewers blue in July, but I digress...
  4. No surprise here. Fully expected the guy who drafted Prince to go after him in FA. Actually believe this could be Prince's best fit being a team in need of a middle of the order bat and an AL team that could use him as DH in the tail end of the contract.
  5. Yeah, he'll sure be good for Gamel, as he sure didn't hold much back going out of his way to rip the guy at the tail end of last season.
  6. I will laugh if they sign Prince now. Figures.
  7. Yes, supposedly he has been offered the Cubs job per John Heyman on twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/SI_JonHeyman/status/137019082452119552) and I have no animosity if he chooses to take the job. Reason #1 being that he doesn't sound like a very smart guy when he talks and I have a hard time believing you can be a good manager if you're not that bright upstairs.
  8. Bombers- I fear that line of yours in blue may actually be one of Melvin's first talking points in his press conference announcing the Betancourt signing. He loves citing RBI, BA, and HR to highlight players attributes he just signed.
  9. Disastrous. If Melvin brings Betancourt back, it's another season of clawing my eyes out with his free-swinging, don't bend over or dive defense. The worst part is...I'd question Melvin's baseball knowledge if he resigns him...did he not watch the same player as we all did this year?
  10. I wish I would've been reading this post back in July before the trade deadline. Instead, we were stuck with inept Betancourt. Melvin sat on his hands and showed his arrogant side by sticking with Yuni in spite of the majority of people rightfully suggesting he's not a MLB starter at SS.
  11. I don't think you have to rebuild if you make the right trades and sign the right players in free agency. I think the Brewers will do the following: make a few moves this off-season to keep with the "win now" mentality for 2012. If, what I believe will happen, the Cardinals bust away with the divisional lead early on and the Brewers come out of the gate scuffling, I could see the direction change and the Brewers could look to trade Marcum/Greinke (if neither are extended prior to the season) at the deadline. The key is Milwaukee cannot continue to do what they did with Prince in 2011, which is keep your players until they hit FA and the best you receive is 2 draft picks for him. If you hope to stay truly competitive, you must maximize their value and use your assets to your organization's advantage.
  12. The Brewers management and coaching staff have never, I repeat, never given Gamel a real chance at the big league level. Sporadic ABs sprinkled in during his call-ups are not a platform to evaluate a guy who is used to playing everyday in the minor leagues. They have been setting this guy, who has put up amazing numbers in the minors, in a position to fail. Period. I believe it is because they do not like his attitude or personality so they choose to not give him a true shot. They did the same thing with Nelson Cruz and look where he has taken his career post-Milwaukee. They ought to give him the 1B job from the get-go and watch the results pour in. If not, I sincerely hope they trade him to a team who will utilize him. The Brewers brass will rue the day they do that because they'll look like goats when he shows them up by producing with regular ABs at the major league level.
  13. I think you will be the only one with that sentiment. I think Cory did a great job, has a voice for radio and filled the seat next to Uke very admirably. I think it's best to search for a clone of his...young, up and comer with some MLB radio experience looking to get a promotion. It's an important hire as he may be the guy to take the reins when Uke....well, I'm not even going to type it.
  14. I'm very fearful of a turnaround coming in the next few years for the Chicago Cubs. Epstein and Jed Hoyer are very bright baseball minds and are very skilled with technology. They're very serious about turning this thing around and understand where their place in MLB history will be if/when they win a World Series for both Boston and Chicago. With more resources and more intelligent minds running the show, the Cubs should pass the Brewers in no-time in the division. Our window is down to one year...let's see what we can do this off-season.
  15. No big loss. Bench coaches, hitting coaches, 3B/1B coaches can easily be replaced. He's no different.
  16. I agree with your opinions. I could definitely see a line similar to Sanchez, given the plate appearances are similar. Problem is, the Brewers have never shown a willingness to let him get consistent enough ABs to know how he will truly fare at the big league level.
  17. I don't understand the rationale of one's OBP not hurting a team as much if it's a player lower in a batting order. I guess that's the mindset difference between contending teams and pretenders. Look at the Cardinals lineup...not one weak spot in the entire lineup. Their bottom half of the lineup carried them in the World Series. He's not a major league starting SS. Rationalize or try to justify all you want, Yuni stinks in all facets of the game.
  18. Hard to stomach with my photo to the left. Good thing for him is he will have more time to drink and drive and sleep at the wheel with his foot on the brake. On another note, the Cardinals won't need him. I predict right now the Cardinals will be a lot better next year and win 100 games. Put Wainwright in that rotation and re-sign Pujols....unstoppable team. Crown them Divisional Champs today.
  19. I have a hard time believing Melvin will bring Yuni back. He sat there and watched his "swing at the first pitch" approach and total lack of range (or willingness to dive for a ball at SS) and I am sure he was as frustrated as many of us...even though he will save face and praise him with empty words. He won't be back with MIL.
  20. That was clearly a strike on the corner. If you're not going to give the pitcher that advantage, that's bogus. What do they want him to do...lay it right down the middle every pitch?
  21. My sentiments exactly. I won't wake up Saturday morning bitter and angry allowing it to affect my mood, but in the moment tomorrow night it would leave a pit in my stomach watching LaRussa, Carpenter, Molina, and Pujols bask in the glory of a World Series title.
  22. It sure feels like STL has already won the World Series, doesn't it? It has to be devastating for Texas to not be able to capitalize on two 2-run leads late in the game and demoralizing to know they can't keep this STL team down with their bats. Hard to imagine Texas comes out confident tomorrow after tonight's result.
  23. David Freese is un-freakin-real. That dude is in the process of solidifying himself as the #1 hometown hero of STL forever.
  24. It's hard to 100% enjoy this when you want a team to lose so badly. If it was any team besides STL in this series for the NL, I'd be loving this game. Still a great game.
  25. It's Albert Pujols. He's probably the only exception to that rule.
