  1. There's a difference between a fan vote-in and being selected by the coaches/players and I assume the GMs and even agents (and arbitration judges!) recognize that. At any rate, these guys are well-tuned in and it doesn't take an All-Star Game appearance to raise their price and recognition. Corey's day-to-day performance speaks for itself.
  2. Actually a hot crepe sounds delicious.... ...depending on what it's filled with. ANYWAY, great job Bush, great job O.
  3. An inauspicious beginning here It'll stink to be 6 games back again after today
  4. Yeah, unfortunately the Brewers don't seem to be in too many games that have garbage innings (heck, if anything our garbage innings often seem to open the door for the other guys to get back in the game!) and given his track record I can't imagine Ned not putting Mota in the game in tight situations. I'd be OK with the team letting Mota correct his mechanics issues in games if it was, say, September 2004. In a pennant chase I'm not as happy with it.
  5. Glendon Rusch is probably my least favorite player...totally a stiff when the Crew traded for him, and then he performs relatively well for the Cubs and seems to have particular success against the Brewers. Plus I don't like his face. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=395511#p395511 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?t=10651
  6. In that case, how about the Cubs start Daryle Ward and Mike Fontenot down the stretch instead of Lee and Ramirez? I mean, you just never know.
  7. I'll be down there...I fly down Saturday mornings and come back Sunday nights, but I usually just buy cheap Southwest flights and they don't go on sale for a while yet, I believe.
  8. With all the excitement of CC's first start last night, it's almost mind-blowing to me that we get Sheets on the mound tonight
  9. I went and saw R.E.M. (w/The National and Modest Mouse) in Berkeley a few weeks back, and when he was introduced by Stipe, McCaughey (who's a de facto member of the band) took off his jacket to reveal an Oakland A's shirt underneath. I assume he does that for every city they play, but I knew he was a big baseball fan.
  10. What? A "vibe"? Harden's history, past and recent, says otherwise.
  11. Wow, Mark A misses no chances to promote his family members' musical aspirations. His perogative, I guess.
  12. I'll never forget going to a Brewers game one September Sunday in 2003 and seeing half the crowd in the concourse during the game itself watching the Packers on TV...I didn't blame them, either! Regardless, I doubt the Packers will have any affect on attendance in a year where the Brewers are making a charge although I imagine they'd get destroyed in the television ratings, which is to be expected when you're looking at 16 games versus 162
  13. Yea, Pie's a bust. The guy has a .667 OPS in AAA. His batting avg is weeks like, and he has no power what so ever. the guy is pretty much a bust IMO. I didn't mean "top prospect" in that sense...regardless, he's got to be one of their bigger chips still in their system. Sad but true. And I agree Danzig: something is rotten in (Har)Denmark about this one and I think Cubs fans would be questioning the timing of this one more than they are right now, because it otherwise indeed makes no sense. Gallagher and the rest of the haul may indeed be much better than they're being given credit for, but I'd bet this same offer still would've been on the table in three weeks. Unless, of course, Harden was on the DL by then. You think Beane hasn't seen the signs of Harden breaking down before?
  14. I've always liked Murton...glad to see him out of Cubbie blue at the least. Should be interesting to see how he responds to more playing time; I'm a little surprised they're starting him at their AAA Sacramento club Similarly, I would love nothing more than to see Gallagher develop into the solid #2 he could possibly become, for years and years, while Harden's health returns to form and the Cubs squeeze 75 innings out of him....through 2009. Lastly, I'm interested to see how this will affect the CC and Sheets free agency sweepstakes. I'd assumed that the Cubs would be big players for them, especially CC, but now I'm not entirely sure they'd sink that much money into either with Zambrano/Harden/Lilly/Hill and even Dempster,Marshall and Gaudin there (and even taking into account the relatively small $9 million they'll pay Harden next year, presumably).
  15. Dayn Perry's take. For what it's worth. He thinks the Crew solidified their position to take the WC and the Cubs are in the driver's seat for the Division. He does think the Cubs are taking a risk relying on Harden's health and more Marquis starts, however. That said, with Cedeno, Pie and Vitters still out there (I don't know who in this thread said the Cubs gave away all their top prospects...not the case), I wouldn't be shocked to see them take a stab at Maddux, Wolf or Burnett.
  16. Rotoworld doesn't seem as blown away His home-away splits do bear the Coliseum thing out somewhat. Harden's also been garbage in the post-season (C.C. hasn't been the greatest of shakes but he's been better than Harden) Obviously if he Harden can do something he's never done before--stay this dominant and stay healthy for the year--it's a great deal for the Cubs. That strikes me as a big If, and if it happens, then the stars really have aligned for Chicago.
  17. NSBB poster: "They [As fans on another board] weren't too concerned because of his injury history. He has been just as hurt as Sheets." Hurt AS Sheets? Big Ben is Cal Ripken compared to Harden
  18. Oakland fans are burning up the phone lines out here...I don't think they were against Harden being traded (they know how it is for their market and they know he's made of glass) but they thought Beane could and should do better than what eh got. That said, Beane's record as a talent evaluator speaks for itself (esp. over Hendry, who has a lot more money to play with)...I'll wait and see on this one.
  19. I lived on the Northside when the Cubs traded for Nomar...they were dusting off the plentitude of empty space they have on their mantle that day, too. Game on, I say.
  20. Let me be the first to say, who cares? Dudes at NSBB are crowing about the "stolen spotlight" as well. If the spotlight was all it took to win championships, the Cubs would've seen a World Series during my parents' lifetime.
  21. Yeah, I'm awfully curious what photos Hendry has of Beane if he got Harden/Gaudin for that collection of scraps Gaudin was just about to be interviewed on the Razor and Mr. T here in the Bay Area, too...oops!
  22. Wow, gotta give it to Hendry if he got that haul for those jokers
  23. No knock, crewcrazy, but man I wish we had a sweet woogie graphic for this one
