  1. Except they haven't.
  2. It's wonderful that the Crew would have made the playoffs 6 out of 9 years. That is what MLB wants is happy fans. But in reality without a salary cap there are only a few teams that really have a chance to win the World Series. Oh, I know, we were a game from there in 2018. But would we have had a chance to beat the Red Sox. Not even doubtful. It's no. Just accept that this is the way it is. MLB does not care about the small market teams. Just trying to keep them interesting enough to put people in the seats. Sorry, I'm just not optimistic that anything is going to change.
  3. Sorry but not feeling good about this at all. Too many questionable roster spots. Urias hurt. STL 89 CHI 83 CIN 79 MKE 77 PIT 65
  4. For a team that is built on depth and position versatility this would make sense. Joc can play OF and !B. Stripling can start or relieve. Peterson punishes RH pitching. I believe Gamel has options left if there is a logjam on the major league team. Stripling is better than some of the guys we are counting on. Depending on the cost of course. Rengifo and a couple of lower level prospects is what they were getting. Seems we could swing a deal like that.
  5. I'm with turborickey. I have very little confidence that 3B is going to be even league average. Oh I know we can take their stats from a given time. Or say their splits are going to add up to something. But Sogard/Gyorko wouldn't play for a LOT of teams. We are supposed to be in a "window of contention" and this does not look good.
  6. MLB's system benefits the likes of Pirates owner Bob Nutting, who routinely opts out of spending money for on-field talent, instead raking in cash from revenue sharing each and every offseason. The less Nutting and others like him spend on their teams, the more year-over-year earnings they can report for themselves and shareholders. In 2018, for example, every team received $118 million, per baseball-reference. That number likely increased in 2019, and will do the same in 2020 as the value for television contracts goes up. This is from an article on MSN Sports. In 2018 every team received $118 million? Really? How do we have to cut payroll?
  7. I agree with The 'stache. Really hard to buy in to the overall picture. Optimism is a great thing this time of year. Yes there is a lot of "just be patient, lots of off season left" thoughts out there. But this is not a team that looks like a contender. I really feel let down by the approach in building it. The fans have supported this team the last two years and will this year because that is what we do. Just don't hold your breath for a playoff type season. There are several teams that are better than us.
  8. I would take that offer if I was the Brewers. I just get the feeling that the Arrenado situation is beyond making him happy with a trade.
  9. Roderick nails it. The Brewers have to get it right because of payroll constraints. Hence we get Sogard/Gyorko at 3B and the Twins get Donaldson.
  10. So does anyone know anything about the twitter guy at Brewer World. Sending out a note that Stearns could be interested in the Houston job? Legit?
  11. I get what you are saying 82brewcrew. Yes this is how DS is going to build this team. Because of our payroll this is how he has to build this team. What I am saying is that MLB has a problem with payroll inequity at they don't care. As long as the Yankees and Dodgers and a handful of other teams are good they don't care. Not gloom and doom on my part. Just reality.
  12. The problem is that we have too many positions where we are hoping a player we put out there today will maximize his strengths. Very few sure things in our lineup. And as I said in an earlier thread this is the best we can hope for. When it all works we are competitive and when it doesn't we are looking who we can sign for a good value for next year. But is being competitive enough? For most fans it probably is. But that doesn't bring a championship to Milwaukee. And that is really what everyone should want.
  13. Expecting Sogard to repeat his career year at age 33 is just as much a folly.
  14. So what I am reading over and over is that we are a "small market" team and this is what we can do. Our decision now is whether to support them at the same level as we have recently. If we don't support them it makes for an easy reason to say "well we don't have the money. " Brewer fans, just accept that if everything goes perfect we are in contention and if it doesn't there is always next year. That is the best we can hope for.
  15. Cardinals yesterday trade for a really good LHP. Today we sign an "upside" 3B who hit .174 last year. Who is more excited?
  16. • Rockies owner Dick Monfort said after the season that he anticipates a drop in attendance based on the poor 2019, and a new television contract with AT&T Sports Networks doesn’t kick in until 2021. As Monfort noted going into ’19, with the increased player spending, payroll is based on revenue. Cot's Baseball Contracts has the Rockies around $150 million for this year at this point. My question is how much different is the Rockies revenue than the Brewers? If payroll is based on revenue should we be in that same payroll area?
  17. I had to look up cromulent. Wasn't sure what that meant.
  18. You are right. I get off subject too easily these days. Sorry.
  19. Trying to think of the right terminology. Yucky suspect. Deeply suspect. Beyond suspect. Something like that.
  20. If the Hader trade happens our bullpen will be more than suspect.
  21. Do the Brewers have any international money left? Is he waiting till July or looking to sign now?
  22. If what adambr2 says is true and the next CBA is more player friendly when do we lock up Hiura?
  23. I'm with turborickey. The money is important for the Brewers but constant restocking of young players is more important. Hader's value is very high and rightfully so. But what does he bring back? Lots. If we are a "small market" team this is how we are going to have to operate. As much as we don't like losing our stars is it a way of life with payrolls the size we have. Do I think we can be competitive year after year? Yes. But this is how you are going to do it. I personally think it is not going to happen before the season starts. Wait to see if you are in it at the trade deadline. If not he is just as valuable to other teams then as now.
  24. I agree with GlennBraggsBat. It sure feels like a reboot to clear some contracts (Braun Shaw Guerra etc.) Then if you are in contention at the deadline you still have Hader to dominate from the pen. If not in contention I doubt his value has gone down much from right now and you may have a team or two who are desperate for a relief pitcher. Don't like the idea of not going all in but if we are following the lead of Tampa Bay or Oakland this is how you do it.
  25. Sure wish DS would just get this done so we can all stop speculating the return.
