  1. I can't see us keeping Willy, either he hits like 2021 (.285, 20 hr's in 365 abs) or like last year (.238/.298/.756 30 HR). Either way he either prices himself out of town or his offensive production isn't worth 25-ish million. If we can find a way to extend someone Woodruff makes more sense, using a previous point that solid SS are easier to find than an ace. We have 2 solid replacement options in Turang and Eric Brown (potentially). I would give all the young guys good looks this year and try and get Braves like extensions for Turang, Mitchell, Contreras, Frelick, Weimer, Williams (maybe), Gasser (???). The only way we keep Willy is if we trade Yeli and I can't see us sending Yeli off without taking a big contract and making a Willy extension possible.
  2. Zack Britton would be the only guy left that would make sense (not sure on injury status), I am sure there will be some decent players when cuts are made. My guess is we add a vet who gets cut else where, at least someone to go to AAA. I don't have much faith in Milner, I feel like when teams start seeing him a bunch he becomes easier to hit. I feel like division teams will have success with him seeing him a lot last year. Hopefully Small is ready to go quickly
  3. It would be nice to trade Huira for a right handed hitting 4th OF (with some potential versatility). Jo Adell, Ramon Laureano, Sam Haggerty could all be interesting. I am sure there are a couple dozen guys that could make decent sense.
  4. It makes sense to use back channels to get a malnourished kid some money and help their future, however the mlb does need to do something. I like the idea of a international draft. Make the age limit like 16 and then take int. draft picks away from teams having early contact. When a player turns 21 make them just a normal free agent so older players from Asia or Cuba (among others) can sign where they please. I am not sure how much a camps/academies in some of these countries cost but if you put 50-100 camps around the world in some of the 3rd world countries I am sure you could make it work get the better prospects and their families help for a relatively reasonable sum with no team bias when they are 13, 14, or 15. That way you could also expand the sport into some other regions and help out these players when they are younger.
  5. I would think the Mets would be a good bet as well, they spent a ton of money and have a older staff. If Scherzer or Verlander get hurt the do have a good enough system to get Burnes. Baty would be a good start if he isn't playing great at that point of the year. I doubt we would want Parada or Alvarez but we could turn it into a 3 team deal. Baty, Parada, Mauricio, and Tidwell would be a solid package and we could then flip Parada for something else or just have him and Quero both develop and trade one in the future. We get Baty, German Marquez, Ronny Mauricio, Blade Tidwell, and a mid level Rockies prospect, Rockies get Parada and the Mets get Burnes
  6. My thought is I would rather have the offensive upside of Voit at DH and Winker in LF than the defense of Naquin in RF and Winker at DH. CC will probably use a different defensive alignment almost everyday to start the year. I would perfer Turang at 2B, Urias at 3B, Anderson in RF, and Winker/Vott at DH however I would suspect we will keep Turang in AAA for a month or so to gain the extra year of control. Strez does deserve to be on the roster, I just feel at this point no one has had time to impress in the offseason so keeping Varland and having some deserving players with options send down(not sure on all the bullpen pieces remaining options) seems like the Brewer way of putting an opening day roster together,
  7. This will be interesting to track and predict as spring training goes on. My Guess as of today C-Contresras 1B- Rowdy 2B- Urias SS- Adames 3B- Anderson LF- Winker CF-Mitchell RF-Yeli DH- Viot Bench-Caratini, Brosseau, Naquin, Toro (maybe trade Huira for a right handed hitting OF and replace Naquin) SP- Burnes, Woody, Peralta, Lauer, Houser, Miley Pen- Williams, Bush, Cousins, Payamps, Guerra, Milner, Varland (If none of the roster bubble pitchers show out I think Varland gets a chance to stay, could be 6 or so guys to take the last pen spot)(not sure who else is out of options I left out)
  8. My guess is that they would call and we would so no to almost all offers. They will probably have to go with Rojas and find a cheap trade for depth or free agent like Iglesias. However if things aren't going well early for us I could see a earlier (40-50 games) trade possible.
  9. I think this says more about Winker or maybe the teams OF. I look at Voit as a DH at this point in his career. Yes, Rowdy isn't great at 1st but Voit is worse. I also added the OF if Winker is looked at as need to play more OF than we hoped.
  10. 1)Chourio 2)Frelick 3)Weimer 4)Mitchell 5)Turang 6)Quero 7)Gasser 8)Misiorowski 9)Brown Jr. 10) Black 11) Rodriguez (P) 12)Avina 13)Mendez 14)Cruz 15)Cornielle 16)Moore 17)J Hernandez 18)Henderson 19) Wagoner 20)Guilarte 21) Lara 22) Arinamo 23) Junk 24) Uribe 25)Robinson 26)Yeager 27)H Perez 28) E Garcia 29) Devanney 30)Valerio I left off this years list of international signings, I usual like to get back some sort of report from the DSL before ranking new signings. It is amazing how deep our system feels, there are around 20 other players who I would have been comfortable putting into the top 26 or so off my list. (Small, Jarvis, briceno, Wood, O'Rae, Zamora, Adams, Severino, Casteneda, Smith, Middendorf, Knarr, Warren, Rodriguez (OF), and more are hard to argue against as org top 30 prospects)
  11. At this point it would be nice just to add a NRI lefty like Justin Wilson. Alex Claudio and Thomas Pannone are old school noodle arm LOOGY guys that should not even be considered to be in the pen unless something has gone very wrong . Maybe the plan is to pick someone up in a trade or just get someone for basically free like Strickland and Box in 2021. However with Ashby being a little out of sorts at least to start camp, my guess is Ashby is that other lefty. It would make sense to use him a little like we did Hader early in his career and than shift him into the rotation when someone goes down.
  12. I like our Anderson, Urias, Turang, Toro, Miller, Brosseau, and Huira options for 2B and 3B this year however it would be nice to have a halfway decent 3B prospect in out system. Maybe if we swap a pitcher or some of that IF depth we could get some sort of 3B prospect not on the 40 man but potentially a year away.
  13. I think I prefer Matt Moore but would be happy with Chafin. To me Moore gets the nod because he can pitch multiple innings. Also Chafins 2 pitch arsenal with a 92 mph heater worries me. I think Will Smith might be a decent option on a cheaper 1 year, even though he has lost a bit on the heater. Danny Duffy could be a good option also if he would be ok with a switch to the bullpen.
  14. He signed for a bunch less than I thought he would, good deal for the royals.
  15. If Kimbrel got 1/10, I think Aroldis will get a that as well. Pesrsonally I like Matt Moore as a pen option best. I thought he would be a 3/24-30 type reliever but if we could get 2/12 with a option that would be great. I like Moore because he can be a setup type or also come in during the 5th and throw a couple innings. Also we really need another reasonable lefty and most of the options have some concerning question marks. With the signing of Anderson I would say there is a smaller chance Turang breaks camp (like 25). 1 OF prospect will and it will almost assured that it will be Mitchell since he is on the 40 man already. My guess is we don't do any moves until camp. When other teams have a significant injury at P or 2B/3B (maybe even OF) we will be sitting there to make a sweet deal. I would be ok trading 2 or even 3 of Huira/Miller/Brosseau/Toro now that Anderson is on the fold.
  16. Agreed, the FA reliever market has been crazy. Anderson has enough upside with the bat and his versatility to be a big upgrade. Say he plays 3B vs lefties (Urias to 2B) and plays 2-3 times a week in the OF at least to start the year. Anderson can kind of work like Jace last year with Urias going to 2nd.
  17. I like this signing, with Miller and Toro having options it is fine. As a 4th OF and utility infielder he should be good. We have had good luck with Marlins players and when our players go there they are worse. Players have attributed the batters eye to the improvement. I would think. At least early on I would think he gets a ton of playing time with Urias going to 2B at times and Taylor in CF. He probably can play 1B occasionally as well if given some time in camp.
  18. If you think about HS School Sophmores all the best players play SS, CF, C, or P. Scouts rarely look at other positions in HS unless the team is absolutely stacked with college prospects. I would guess these international prospects are the same and when bodies fill out and the competition improves some SS become 3B/2B on CF become LF/RF.
  19. Any one have a good idea for a Red Sox trade? The seem to have hole in the middle of the field SP(health/age), 2B/SS, CF, C. I think there would be a decent chance we could give up some depth and make a nice value trade. Lauer/Houser and Toro/Brosseau/Miller/Keston for Brayan Bello We get long term piece who could be a big asset this year. The Red Sox get depth for a great arm who didn't perform great last year in the bigs.
  20. I am super interested to see what we do at the deadline especially if we are in a similar place as last year. With the Hader trade disrupting the teams psyche my guess is Arnold may stay away from trading away anyone. I agree, I most definitely purposely undervalued Arreaz in my previous trade proposal. When I said that the future Twins infield is probably Miranda, Lewis, Lee, and Correa I should have mentioned that Arreaz is a perfect utility guy to play all over and DH or allow Correa or other a day of DH'ing. Arreaz would be a perfect #2 hitter behind Yeli, then we would have two high obp. bats to set the table for Willy, Rowdy, and Contreras. To be honest Arreaz is someone I would consider trading Burnes or Woody for (along with others). Burnes for Sonny Gray, Luis Arreaz, Alex Kiroloff, a 5-10 ranked prospect. Then trade Urias, Rowdy, or Winker for prospects, Arreaz plays 3rd, 1st, or DH/Utl/2B depending on what trade benefits us most.
  21. My guess is that Blake Perkins gets a chance to start the year at the end of the bench. Maybe Toro, Miller, or Huira show enough to be the 4th or 5th OF with Winker around. It is also conceivable Frelich has a big spring training and wins the CF job to start the year. I would guess there will also be a non-roster invitee or 2 we might sign who could have a chance.
  22. With the Twins bringing back Correa they have tons of depth on the IF with Correa, Miranda, Arreaz, Polanco, Royce Lewis, Nick Gordon, and eventually Brooks Lee. They also have like 6 good OF options, plenty of rotation options (no real #1 or #2) options, and a solid pen. Long term they might be looking at Miranda, Lee, Lewis, and Lee in the infield. Polanco only has 1 year and Gordon is a high end utility. This leaves Luis Arreaz long term left out. Obviously he would be a nice fit in with us. The problem with a trade is that he is at top value. Rumors are all around with the Marlins and Twins, maybe we could pop in as a 3rd team to smooth out some edges. Twins get Pablo Lopez and Logan Henderson Marlins get Max Kepler, Luis Urias, and Keston Huira (Cash from Twins) Brewers get Luis Arreaz and Caleb Theilbar The Twins get a rotation upgrade, the Marlins get 3 positions offensively upgraded (OF, 3B, and DH), and we get a 3B upgrade and a decent lefty reliever.
  23. Since most are 16 you have to add an inch or 3 to all those guys. I like the scouting our system has done internationally. Signing big classes with. 2-4 higher rated guys seems like the way to go.
  24. Comparing positions head to head, 1 point for somewhat better, 2 points for a bunch better here is what I get. Catcher= Brewers +2 1B=Wash, I'll call Mancini there 1B and say he is more like the O's version 2B=Cubs +1, I am going to say Hoerner is their best 2B. SS= Wash 3B= Brewers +1, I'll put Wisdom at 3rd for now. LF= Wash, Happ was a bit better last year but Yeli has a much higher ceiling. CF= Wash. This could be a big swing either way depending on Bellinger or our young guys. RF=Cubs +1, This is tight but if you look at Susuki vs. Taylor (for now) Suzuki wins. DH= Brewers +1, I expect Winker to be a bunch better than Hosmer. Bench= Brewers +1, There isn't much after Madrigel and Morel on the Cubs side. Rotation #1= Brewers +2(Stroman) #2= Brewers +2(Tallion), #3=Brewers +1 (Smyly), #4 Brewers +1 (Hendricks), 5/6= Brewers +1. Bullpen= Brewers +2, Williams gets at least 1 by himself (if not 2) and I would say we have a bunch of higher potential arms. Basically we are better everywhere other than 2nd and possibly an OF position depending on our young guys and Belly.
  25. Do they keep their skills or just there dominance? To me, Ruth is the easy answer buy if you make him hit against today's pitching 95 mph vs pitching 100 Yeats ago maybe 85 mph that changes my response. If you don't adjust for game changes I would go with a recent great pitcher like Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, or Nolan Ryan.
