  1. Padres swept by the Dodgers. Not a great start to the Juan Soto era.
  2. I think it's possible Stearns is trying to sabotage the team so he gets released from his contract.
  3. I did not want Yelich extended at the time. I think he had 4 years of control left on his contract. The knee injury concerned me greatly because those types of injuries (broken bones in a major joint) can lead to severe arthritis over time. I was one of the few who thought Yelich was smart to lock in his financial security at the time--when it seemed everyone else was blasting the guy for supposedly giving the Brewers a home town discount. On the plus side Yelich seems like a good guy and he can still get on base so it will make his contract easier to swallow going forward even if he doesn't regain his MVP form.
  4. I have two comments about Bellinger: (1) He also had an injury and surgery that precipitated his statistical decline. He dislocated his shoulder in the 2020 NLCS celebrating a home run. Had surgery that offseason and has never been the same since. And (2) I always thought his swing was unsustainable. Way too all or nothing. But then I felt the same way about Ohtani when I first watched him hit...
  5. I'm not an orthopedic doctor but I think the knee injury helped cause the back injury which sapped his power.
  6. It sure would have been nice if Stearns had waited until Yelich proved he was over his knee injury before offering a huge contract extension. At the time people were roasting Yelich for taking a perceived hometown discount but Yelich did the smart thing. Now he has generational wealth no matter how badly he plays baseball.
  7. David Stearns learning the hard way this week that he's not running a fantasy baseball team. You don't get to move pieces around the board without regard to what it's doing to actual human beings without repercussions. I used to think Stearns was a great GM/Pres Baseball Ops. I don't think that anymore. Edit - My comment was more about the Hader trade/Dinelson DFA, et al., than this issue with Barker, which appears to not be an issue at all.
  8. C'mon people. There's no such thing as an F- ? Stearns has earned an F though.
  9. If he's going to be claimed on waivers (and thus have his contract picked up by another team) why didn't the Padres simply waive/release him instead of foisting him on the Brewers?
  10. I would love to see them miss the playoffs after emptying their farm system and spending like a drunk sailor on shore leave after a year at sea.
  11. Brewers helping other teams shed payroll while sending one of the elite relievers in the game out the door. What the (bleep)? Why do I even root for this team? I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick a football held by Lucy.
  12. He won't go unsigned before the season starts as happened to Stephen Drew, Craig Kimbrel, and Dallas Keuchel. But the loss of draft capital by a signing team will make offers to him less lucrative.
  13. The Cubs did Willson Contreras dirty. Now his FA market value will be depressed by a QO and his body has to keep taking a pounding while playing in meaningless games for the rest of the season. If I was Contreras I would take the rest of the season off with an "injury." The Cubs are truly a disgraceful organization.
  14. This move is indefensible. Stearns has lost his mind.
  15. I saw a headline that said the Padres were still in the Soto hunt despite the Hader trade. And I thought, of course they are, they didn't trade anything to the Brewers for Hader that the Nationals would want for Soto.
  16. I would have much preferred that the Brewers trade Hader in the offseason. Trading one of the best relief pitchers over the last few years for nothing of impact coming back while the team is in 1st place in the division? No.
  17. Zero top 100 prospect back for Hader is not how I envisioned his trade going... I'll leave it at that.
  18. $120 for a season of Brewers baseball isn't outrageous. Especially if it's the only way you can get the games. Comparing the price to the MLB package (to get the games of 29 other teams) isn't an apples to apples comparison due to the blackout rules. It's like comparing the price of beer at a Brewers game to the price of beer at the grocery store. Captive market = marked up prices.
  19. The problem is that the number people like to throw around is massively skewed by people like Chris Davis who put up -2.8 WAR for $161 million. So compared to Chris Davis, Lorenzo Cain's contract was pretty good.
  20. You want me to be empathetic to someone who made over $100 million playing a kid's game because he didn't want to deal with the Covid protocols? Nope. Sorry. I have empathy for coal miners. Meat packers. Grocery store employees. People serving in the military. Nurses. Those people deserve my empathy. Cain does not.
  21. Yes, he quit. And as a so-called "leader" of the team it was especially egregious. If there's some special circumstance he was living under I'd like to hear it. David Price did the same thing to the Dodgers. I hope they didn't give him a WS ring but I'd bet they did.
  22. Cain lost me as a fan when he quit on the Brewers during the 2020 season.
  23. I love the 1982 team but, wow, it goes to show how pathetic this franchise has been that we continue to celebrate a World Series losing team 40 years later.
  24. It's very possible that is a factor. A changeup is one of the most difficult pitches to grip. Which is major factor why many pitchers never master the pitch.
  25. $140 for MLB.tv to get nearly every game except the Brewers vs. $190 for the Bally's thing. I'd say Bally's is poor value for money. It was worth it when Fox Sports Wisconsin was included with my YTTV subscription, but since that went away last year I don't think I've seen a Brewers game on TV. Thankfully I'm a fan of baseball in general so having MLB.tv provides me with a lot of baseball to watch on a nightly basis.
