  1. Timber Rattlers & Fond du Lac Dock Spiders Under New Ownership Third Base Ventures, LLC is pleased to announce that they have reached an agreement to purchase the assets of Appleton Baseball Club, Inc with an anticipated closing as early as January 1, 2021. This purchase will bring the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders under new, local ownership. The sale is a result of the unprecedented pandemic that continues to create much uncertainty throughout the country and the world. Third Base Ventures is a new entity comprised of principal owner Craig Dickman and minority owners Rob Zerjav and Brad Raaths. All three members of Third Base Ventures are natives of Northeastern Wisconsin and are excited to continue the tradition of professional baseball in this area. The new ownership group has also reached an agreement to purchase Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium from the Fox Cities Amateur Sports Authority. The combination of the team and the stadium will allow for a cohesive unit moving forward which will provide a state-of-the-art facility and top-notch fan experience for residents of Northeastern Wisconsin for years to come. Full information in the link.

  3. As of right now it is a normal season and no Covid-related changes. Sounds like MLB and the Union will meet in January.
  4. The Reds took on a lot of bigger contracts that can't/don't want to pay now. Moustakas is available as well.
  5. Since MLB started talking about limiting the number of games expect all deals to include signing bonuses and/or options with buy-outs so players still get paid. Brewers will probably do option years just to push pay into 2022. Franco could get something like Gyorko's deal last year. Edit: For some reason I thought Gyorko's deal was larger the first year. Franco may be something like $4M with a $6M option and a $500K buy-out.
  6. I don't think the Phillies have a current GM though, and according to this article, "Dombrowski is also expected to inherit the the GM duties": https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2020/12/10/dave-dombrowski-phillies-president-gm/3884645001/ Which is the same structure that the Brewers have with Stearns in charge.
  7. Yeah, it looks like you have to know Houston's situation better. The trade machine actually says a trade for Middleton and Wilson for Harden works because of trade exception Houston has. http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yy96t6en And Eric Nehm's response when I pointed this out to him: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  9. No it does not.
  10. I don't remember which podcast with JJ Cooper briefly mentioned it, either the BA or Effectively Wild, but that would come after the teams accept and the 120 teams are finalized.
  11. I'm not sure that would work financially. I thought we couldn't add more than ~450K. That'd work if we weren't up against the hard cap, but we'd be a couple million short in this scenario...I believe. The Athletic had an article by Eric Nehm on how it could work: https://theathletic.com/2252262/2020/12/10/james-harden-bucks-trade-talk-can-it-be-done-and-would-it-work-on-the-court/ Basically the trade would only work if it includes Middleton and Lopez. Middleton, DDV, and Wilson is $610K short.
  12. This is the biggest thing that I think is getting overlooked. Mark owns the controlling interest, but may not have a majority stake in the club according to some speculation. If that’s the case you have a large group of investors expecting continued profitable returns and the team is seemingly more likely to operate as risk averse and on tightly orchestrated budgets. Or conversely, a group of investors who don't want to keep putting money in.
  13. Doubt the Phillies would trade someone like Hoskins + prospects for Hader and I wouldn't do it unless the prospects were really good. You are probably correct if the Phillies weren't hiring a new baseball head but Dombrowski has made such moves in the past.
  14. Maybe in a few years but MLB is not expanding in 2020 or 2021. Heck, depending on the CBA negotiations after the '21 season, the 2022 season could be in jeopardy. Until the next CBA negotiation is completed, I doubt expansion happens. So while expansion might eventually happen, Nashville has to decide having baseball now (as AAA level) until then. They need the leverage of allowing a team to move right now because there is ongoing stadium negotiations. The A's and Ray's? I think. Expansion won't happen until that's resolved. I don't think the CBA negotiations will have any affect. The only thing in the CBA about future expansion is MLB can expand by 2 teams any time they want, they just need to give the Union 10 days notice once the decision is made. Perhaps in the next negotiation the owners may want to remove the 2 team limit but hard to see the Union saying no to more members getting jobs.
  15. That $700M net worth should include the valuation of his portion of the Brewers if it truly is his net worth. My understanding that he is not the majority owner but just the largest single shareholder and collectively the others own more than him. That means the others could be the influence and also would limit his ability to add money directly as that would change the ownership stake. They could only infuse cash if all owners agree to do so and per their share. Of course loans are different.
  16. They released the Brewers projections. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2021-zips-projections-milwaukee-brewers/
  17. Cohen has indicated that he will spend more money than the Wilpons but he's not going to dump crazy money. This was reported by Jon Morosi at Cohen's intro as new owner news conference Cohen made his money by having his company try to find a sure thing and investing in that. Most times they came by this knowledge legally. He didn't do it by dumping money and hoping for a ROI. I think I made this statement on this board and I stand by it: Cohen won't cross the CBT threshold unless he's absolutely sure he can win that year and even then it will only be for that year.
  18. Yeah, that's wild. Most of the High A teams in the East/South were already spoken for, and I guess the Astros wanted both A teams regionalized in North Carolina. Would've made more sense to get the Pirates into the MWL (Lansing, with the A's staying in Beloit?) and the Marlins in Greensboro, though the Marlins were there previously, and I don't think the relationship ended all that well. I believe some of these types of changes could still come in the future.
  19. Burlington, Clinton, and Kane County - Move to Indy league like AA or perhaps something like the Northwoods?
  20. tim dillard! You make it sound like he's some crazy person that just comes with the park.
  21. With the amounts of money involved all teams are now run to be wholly self-sufficient and not need constant influxes of cash from the owners. Even Cohen will stop short of the CBT threshold on a regular basis.
  22. Mike Petriello did a Twitter thread on this - graphs are in the Twitter thread:
  23. Also new owner trying to show he's not the same as the last. I also wonder if the spectre of Braun deciding to play and wanting to come back isn't a factor.
  24. Both sides want it, they just don't want to offer it for free.
