  1. I think game 4 pen usage would have been different if Williams was available. That was the only game where not having him really hurt and changed the way you could navigate the game. Agreed though, not sure it ultimately would have made a difference given the offense. I am also leaning towards trying to trade Hader for some hitters. It will completely change the dynamic of the bullpen but that's an easier fix, and as you mentioned, Stearns has had a higher success rate there, then bringing in bats.
  2. Astros, Red Sox, Braves, Giants/Dodgers is just a gross group of teams for a Championship series. Hope the next CBA finds a way to somewhat level the playing field between large and small markets
  3. I'm pretty new to the board so will defer to other posters...but I have to imagine this is up there with one of the worst hot takes ever seen around here.
  4. I hope that in the coming seasons, we'll look back on this year more fondly as the coming out party for the big three pitchers. It's hard to go back to pre-season expectations, but coming into the year nobody expected those three to perform as strongly as they did. Woodruff had established himself as our ace but Burnes and Peralta were nothing more than high potential arms who hadn't established that consistency yet. Until this season when they did. That is the biggest takeaway from me and hoping that results in the coming years will have us looking back at this season as the year it started. Unfortunately, being a Brewers fan often times is filled with a lot of hoping for future outcomes that as we all know, don't frequently occur.
  5. There is literally no such thing as a back door division win. We had a great summer and built a big divisional lead that was enough to hold up at the end of the year. I am as frustrated as anybody about how this season ended but no reason to diminish their regular season accomplishments - even with a poor last week or two to end.
  6. I just can't see how. There is nothing coming up the pipeline that's going to do that. The only dream I can cling to is fixing Yelich to the point he's a shell of what he was. Yeah, I'm sure they can move a guy here or a guy there, but this offense badly needs something. And it's not just Yelich. It's JBJ. It's Cain. There's a lot of money in some not very great players. Brewers went after Turner hard last offseason. Rumors of them also going after Reynolds at the deadline. Trading for a guy like Adames seemed to come out of nowhere. There are pieces that I think can be moveable in Houser, Lauer, Turang, Mitchell, Small, Ashby, Williams, Hader, maybe even Narvaez, that can bring back value. If anything, I do trust Stearns and Co. won't be satisfied with these results and look to "run it back." I expect an aggressive offseason.
  7. Did you grow up in Bay and Counsell bullied you or something? Holy crap your constant criticism moves past the point of logic and seems like its a personal agenda. Almost all of Counsell's big decisions back fired. Really tough series for him in terms of results. You can make a good decision that ends up having a bad result, but doesn't mean it wasn't the right decision at the time. Now I think there is definitely room to question the line up construction and how he handled the catchers, but that's not even close to what lost them this series. The reasoning behind his decisions with Peralta yesterday and Lauer and Hader today are all there and pretty easy to understand but you're just choosing to ignore it.
  8. Yelich you can undo a lot of negative goodwill you have built up the last 2 seasons right here.....
  9. I wanted to see Woodruff because I thought Hader was going to go more then one....he clearly was never in contention for that though. Still would have liked to see Woodruff try to get through 8 so you have Josh for the 9th. Craig went to him early which is questionable, but Josh blew it - not sure Counsell is the reason were gonna lose
  10. I hate going to Hader here...Woodruff's pitch count was still very much under control (12)...don't think Josh can get you through the 9th since he hasn't thrown 2 all year....we're going to end up seeing Cousins try to get some huge outs
  11. Woodruff still only at 12 pitches....really think you need to ride him for as many outs as he can give, even if its only 1 or 2 in the 8th. Not sure Josh can get you through 9 if he starts the 8th
  12. How much weak contact can they turn into hits or productive outs?? Good lord some of these balls the last few games have no business turning into something positive for them but they have been. Luckily that one wasnt...barely
  13. I don't think he was running that hard...maybe there is an injury there otherwise would piss me off seeing a teammate not busting it down the line in an elimination game on a ball that he could make a close play
  14. I think Snitker is outsmarting himself right now...Minter looked lights out, Brewers werent touching him. Glad hes out
  15. Stick with Woodruff as long as he can go - best case you get through the 8th. Anything past 7 though is great and as soon as Woody is done gotta go to Hader
  16. Urias man - even if we don't win I think this game has fulfilled the Grisham redemption game that many were posting about way back during pre-game of this thread
  17. What would you have done instead? You seem to have an anti-Counsell agenda but have never offered up what you would like to see before it happens
  18. It's going to be a struggle getting to Josh today...really need Ashby to get out of this and cover another inning
  19. Took that foul ball for the announcers to say he was in the game...then another minute to say a double switch occured...makes you appreciate BA's knowledge of the game and ability to anticipate moves then communicate with the viewer
  20. Agree for the most part but think Cain just got fooled there...he looked back at the ump and was nodding as if he was in agreement with the call
  21. Burnes himself said he wasn't physically ready to pitch today. End of debate. Counsell's quote was "At this time, we're not considering using Burnes..." Seems to leave the door a little open vs a "Burnes is unavailable today" After the Miley NLCS outing, I'll always read into Counsell's gamesmanship
