  1. Given how much the Brewers play match ups, he might not even miss a couple. Even with Burnes on the mound I think there will be quick hooks with pitching given Houser and Lauer are back in the pen. If he is laboring through the first few innings and his spot comes up with runners in scoring position I think Counsell will be aggressive.
  2. The guy doing color with BA thinks he’s pretty smart for saying the most obvious things
  3. Dodgers lineup is just so filthy. Brewers obviously have some really good position players but in a head to head comparison, not sure Brewers would win at any spot. Cain over Bellinger is actually probably the only spot this season.
  4. Couldn't agree more - shouldn't even be a debate
  5. All NFL twitter is also under the impression that their team could have replicated the exact deal that took place and it would have worked. "You mean the Packers wouldn't give up a 6th round pick for him?!? FIRE GUTEY" No consideration of salary cap, the players interest or the team they are dealing withs interest. Nobody knows the details but I'm at least willing to bet Gutey isn't asleep at the wheel
  6. If there are no concerns about his injury then I really hope the Packers go for it. Not sure another impact player like him will come available as a FA mid-season this year. You're already in cap hell moving forward so hope at this point they just keep kicking the can down the road, add on the void years and let's try to make a run knowing the next few years are going to be rough anyways.
  7. Dodgers worry me a lot more in a 7 game series than St. Louis would so will be rooting heavy for Cardinals tonight. The "Cardinal Way" is extremely hateable and since St. Louis is an inner division rival I understand the disdain, but their franchise has at least achieved success in a way that makes you believe Milwaukee could one day do the same. The Brewers resources will never compete with the Dodgers so I constantly root against them and hope that early playoff exits lead to overreaction roster moves and bad free agent contracts that hamper them in the future
  8. Surprised so many here are rooting for the Yankees - the entitlement of that franchise, and their payroll, makes me enjoy seeing them lose. I suppose Boston isn't much better but in my eyes at least, it's the Yankees, Dodgers and Cubs at the top of the always root against list.
  9. I would bet Jaire ends up on the short-term IR to give him additional time to recover. Next three games are very winnable even without him.
  10. Rumors circulating on Twitter that Jaire may be able to play as soon as this weekend with a brace. Haven't seen it confirmed by any of the main insiders yet though. With the way Packers tend to treat injuries, I would bet there is no chance he plays this weekend but still good to hear that it may not be as significant an injury as initially thought. I guess it is fingers crossed one of the reputable insiders confirms the same report.
  11. To be honest, Jaire missing extended time is fine as long as he isn't out for the season. If he is done for the season then this is a different conversation but for now, assuming he is out 5-8 weeks, other guys will get more experience and be forced to step up. All it does is strengthen the football team come playoffs. I've stated before, I think this regular season for the Packers is really similar to what the Bucks went through last year. Results don't matter as much given the weak division. During the regular season you need to focus on building experience with the younger guys, develop players, and learn how to play multiple different styles so that come playoffs you're ready to handle whatever opponents might throw at you. If you can further develop the players like Stokes, Sullivan, King, Gary, the rookies on the line etc and then get your studs like Jaire, Bahk, Z back for the stretch run you're going to be in good shape - even if that means you drop a game or two during the regular season that you might've won years prior. Again, though this assumes Jaire and (hopefully) Z are able to come back eventually
  12. In 15 years, they could sell the entire TTD for a substantial gain. The fixed investments are not an obstacle. In 2011, this team sold pieces of paper with the team logo and raised $60 million. Again, I think they stay put in Ashwaubenon and continue to play outdoors, but history tells us we’re due for some uncomfortable conversations about the future of Lambeau Field in 15 years. I can all but guarantee the 0.5% Brown County sales taxes comes back at some point. Are you suggesting the uncomfortable conversations would also include the Packers leaving Green Bay? If so, who would be making that push? Admittedly, I am not as familiar with the business of football but the Packers already sell-out every game and have a season ticketholder wait list that could fill the stadium twice so what would the benefits be to a new home?
  13. Seeing a lot of posters stating things like the Braves match up well. I would argue everybody matches up well with everybody in the playoffs, all of these teams are good. No more playing the Pirates and Cubs. There will be some intense games but Brewers are the better team and they showed it over 162. Brewers strengths are stronger than the Braves strengths. Brewers in 4.
  14. He has basically two weeks to think through how to adjust. Additionally, Williams was unavailable quite a bit this year which allowed time for Counsell to experiment with Boxberger, Suter, Cousins etc. Williams is a big loss but I don't think the team is unprepared to handle it
  15. Vegas currently has Burnes favored over Scherzer for the NL Cy Young
  16. Yup. With Williams injury Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Lauer, Houser, Suter, Ashby, Strickland, Cousins, Boxberger and Hader are the only guys I really trust to get outs. That's eleven. On the position player side you've got Omar, Manny, Rowdy, Vogelbach, Escobar, Wong, Adames, Urias, Peterson, Yelich, Cain, Garcia and Taylor as the locks. That's thirteen. So two spots left for some combination of JBJ, Hiura, Maile, Reyes, Sanchez, Norris or whoever else. Agreed. I don't see Maile making it as he would be able to be added afterwards should an injury to Narv or Pina occur. JBJ is probably on for defense so that leaves one spot probably between Hiura, Reyes, or Norris. Given extra innings no longer have the runner on second, I would probably go with Hiura if he shows signs of life this weekend over Reyes, whose biggest value add is from his baserunning. Even with Hiura's struggles, he could still change the game in a pinch hitting role and I like the upside there better than Reyes. Picture this, Houser getting pinch hit for after going through the lineup twice, so they send Keston up there not wanting to burn one of the bigger bats early and without much cooking on the bases. Hiura puts a good swing on the ball and knocks one out to give the Brewers an early lead - Ashby comes in to bridge to Hader and the Brewers dance into the NLCS. Man would that change some perception of Hiura this season.
  17. It doesn't really have to be over JBJ though, the Brewers can somewhat thin their bullpen. Do you need a guy like Sanchez or Rea on the roster? They wouldn't pitch if the game was close and if you need mop up innings you'll have somebody like Houser or Suter available.
  18. JBJs swing and misses weren't even close that AB
  19. Stearns probably has a good opinion of O.J. Simpson if that is his point of view. Is OJ a good guy who made one mistake?
  20. Keston might actually be a sleeper to make the NLDS roster considering they won't need to carry as many pitchers. He's been hitting well the past week or so in AAA so who knows, if he comes up and hits well I could see him making it as a bench bat to be used as a pinch hitter in the earlier innings.
  21. I think the Brewers might try to find a way to buy out Hader's arbitration years and in exchange extend his deal by one more season. Would put Josh under contract for the next 4 seasons and make him an UFA after the 2025 season, which is the same time as Woodruff and Burnes. Would be benefits to both sides. Hader gets the security of not having to play the arbitration game anymore and still hits UFA when he is 31. Brewers then align his contract with both Woodruff and Burnes and solidifies their 2-3 year window before having to think about potential trades & rebuilding.
  22. If the Brewers will ever use Hader more than 1 inning again feel like this is the time given the Williams news. Interested to see if we see Josh come in for an out in the 8th then go back out for the 9th just to get the feel for pitching, sitting, then getting back up again. Giving him a couple test runs of this ahead of next week would make sense, if they have any plans to throw him more than 3 outs.
  23. He's having the most miserable day of his life today and we're all upset about it, but he obviously regrets it and we'll eventually move on. Although it certainly will be easier if the Brewers avoid blowing late-inning leads in the postseason... He's not even the first pitcher this year to bust his pitching hand punching something. One wishes that he did it after a bad outing rather than after the celebration though. I don't think any of this matters. Sure he isn't the first one to do this and I'm sure he feels terrible about it but it is now the second consecutive post-season (out of 2 for him) when he won't be available and this time its unfortunately his fault. A reliever with his stuff is a lot less valuable if he isn't throwing the big innings for you. I mentioned the same thing on the first page where I wouldn't be surprised if his injury history leads to the Brewers quietly exploring trades for him this offseason. Hader seems like the obvious candidate given his increasing price tag but Josh is more reliable and the Brewers could probably get a similar haul for Devin.
  24. Wow... don't think this puts a ceiling on what this team can accomplish but certainly makes the hill a little steeper. That looked like an uncomfortable session with Stearns and Williams talking to reports together. Like a parent reprimanding their child and making them go apologize to the stranger they did wrong. Instant overreaction is I wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Williams in Milwaukee. Hader seems like the bullpen arm everybody thinks about trading, but Williams has actually been somewhat unreliable with his health and doesn't dominate quite as much as Hader does. Brewers could get a huge haul given his contract situation and would still have a dominate pen given Josh is still around.
