  1. The really bigger picture is that the organization is showing itself to be player-friendly, whether that’s about the chance to earn contractual incentives or just a player’s desire to have the honor of taking part in the ASG. Whether this player-friendliness pays any future dividends is questionable, but you do what you can when you’re not one of the big-spender clubs. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t have preferred Burnes going twice, but I’m not going to be too upset.
  2. I just saw a site projecting Burnes and Hader as the Brewers representatives. It doesn't look like Burnes will be the NL starter, but he's at least in the conversation. The other thing for him is that the Brewers could start him Tuesday and Sunday on the coming road trip, which would make him unlikely to be available at all. As a Brewer fan, I much rather have him do that, but if making an appearance in the ASG is important to him, the club might delay his next start until Wednesday (or just skip him on Sunday). Hader certainly deserves the bid for his body of work in the first half, recent scuffling aside. The snub would be Devin Williams. The writer of the site I saw doesn't even list him in the "snub" category, which might be an even bigger snub. I think it's really hard to make a case for any of the position players/DHs.
  3. Well, it feels good to get the Ws today, full stop. Great, timely pitching and defense. But there is room for improvement when the offense ends up with only 3 hits against a lesser pedigreed lineup of replacement pitchers (who threw as many balls as strikes, too).
  4. Let Box try to take it home? Milner and Suter are the non-used (normal) bullpen pitchers today...
  5. This is just an uneducated suspicion, but I wonder if there are contract incentives for games played or plate appearances (or innings/starts/appearances for pitchers) or possibly more production-based metrics that make a player more anxious to get back on the field.
  6. I feel a little better about the bullpen with Hader reactivated (don't want to speculate about his mental state, but it's hard not to think of that as a possible x-factor). With Williams having gone 3 straight days and Box 2 out of 3 including yesterday (as well as Perdomo yesterday), the "other guys" might be needed in higher-leverage-than-they're-used-to situations. Twould be great for the offense to help out a bit,
  7. In addition to his fairly solid May numbers despite his perfectly imperfect W-L record, Corbin had an excellent outing against the Brewers in Aug 2021, only allowing 3 hits over 7 scoreless innings. Lefties against the Brewers... he's not a stiff. Need to get into the Nats bullpen. Looking at the Brewers roster's career batting stats against him, it might be a shame that we have the DH now - our pitchers were .500 ?
  8. There's a bit of a statistical technicality that gets created with the runner-on-second thing - if that runner scores, regardless of how, it's considered unearned. That run gets charged to the pitcher who started the inning, but it's not an earned run. For example, the Braves pitcher who gave up the 2-run dinger to Hiura only adds one run to the numerator on his ERA.
  9. The NL East champ is now locked in to the 3 seed http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xCczh2vB004/ToSYG4mNPLI/AAAAAAAACVc/HSi3xt8AOv4/w1200-h630-p-k-no-nu/braves-kid.jpg
  10. This is a good demonstration why Houser is the most likely starter to throw a CG - 47 pitches through 4 with *only* 3Ks. The big 3 throw more pitches in part because they get more outs via the K.
  11. Interesting that the Cubs pulled Thompson after letting him bat. Maybe he's just a good bunter?
  12. 3 teams lost their battle today to stay mathematically alive to best the Brewers' year-end record:
  13. The Mets can no longer surpass the Brewers record. Magic # to pass PHI is 2.
  14. I would argue that Hader has a chance, but I think most people expect that he'll be dealt vs. re-signing him when the time comes.
  15. Our current magic numbers to be ahead of the NL East winners are: NYM 2 Phi 3 Atl 8 To put things into perspective ATL's magic number is 16 to win their division. SF's magic number on us is 15.
  16. Boomer! One of my faves, and then was traded to Boston for Cecil Cooper
  17. Cubs have been eliminated: http://www.italianinsider.it/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/bear.jpg
  18. #CrewIn6 Yes... this!!!! Fear the Beer! Fear the Beer!
  19. Come on guys:
  20. Also, if the Cardinals beat the Reds today, their magic numbers will be the same (depending on the outcome of the Brewers game, that would be either Robin Yount or Gorman Thomas). That has to do with StL having 3 more games remaining than the Reds do (currently 32 and 29, respectively).
  21. The Pirates have been eliminated. One down, 3 more to go. Cubs are next at magic # [Ryan Braun]
  22. The Giants just picked up Jose Quintana off waivers today... I'll let others comment
  23. Not that they're even remotely a threat, but the Brewers magic number to eliminate Pittsburgh is only Sal Bando at this point. I like crossing them out as we go.
