  1. His defense didn't exactly help him out. Hart dove for a ball he probably shouldn't have, could have held him to a double at worst. Then Gomez misplays the final out in center. Probably only deserved to have one run score, but it's at least two. Ugh. He got in a game, but it probably didn't matter. Based on him not pitching at all, it seems almost certain he'll be the next guy sent down.
  2. I couldn't agree more. He's been up over a week....if it took a 10 run lead to put him into the game, he probably shouldn't have gotten called up in the first place. That is basically like playing one guy short every day. Maybe RR just didn't see him enough in spring and he can earn some more playing time. Of course, he's already hit a guy and gave up a triple without getting an out so that's not good. I think he's likely to head right back down after Morgan is healthy.
  3. If we could get him back on the very cheap, sure, why not. But I doubt Texas would just give him away. He made his bed, now he has to sleep in it. His decision was just flat out stupid in the first place.
  4. You can't, though. My point is that those rivalry games are out of scheduling control...those are predetermined every year. And almost every year, the Twins make our schedule harder. I realize this is something that can change year to year, who will be bad and good and whatnot, but that leaves 3 series that can be controlled. And of the ones that MLB picked, it's virtually impossible to get any harder than Yankees, Red Sox and Rays. Arguably the of the top teams in the AL and all of MLB and you'd be hardpressed to find a tougher threesome in any division. And we get to play all 3.
  5. Wolf got the sac down on the first pitch, didn't even give him the chance to steal. For me, this is one of the few scenarios that it actually makes some sense to bat the pitcher 8th and Gomez 9th. You may be right though, Yuni in the 8 hole could be ugly.
  6. I'm not going to get into the whole Kotsay sucks thing, though personally, I'm not a huge fan. If Morgan is back and healthy, that SHOULD push Kotsay to the 5th outfield spot. At that point, to me, it becomes who would be more valuable as a PH/Spot Starter at 1B or RF (assuming Branyan can play RF). In my opinion, it's not even close. Branyan will likely have a lower BA and probably worse defense. However, I'd guess their OBP would be similar, as Branyan does walk a ton. He also DOES possess power that Kotsay has pretty much never had. We have virtually nobody on our bench that I would want to send up if we could really use a HR to tie a game and Branyan would definitely supply that. Ideally, this player would very rarely start (assuming Morgan is healthy) and if we're talking just a bench role, I just don't see how Branyan wouldn't be better than Kotsay, even with his apparent decline.
  7. Nationals: CF Roger Bernadina SS Ian Desmond RF Jayson Werth LF Laynce Nix C Wilson Ramos 1B Michael Morse 2B Danny Espinoza 3B Jerry Hairston LHP Tom Gorzelanny It's stunning that a team with that lineup swept us a month ago.
  8. I'd much rather see Gomez batting 7th than 8th. The issue I have with in the 8 hole is that it takes away one of his few good traits - the ability to steal bases. If he gets on with the pitcher up, the pitcher isn't likely to take pitches so he can steal second. They're going to try to get the sac down, which moves him to second but takes away his only good asset. Unless we're going to let the pitcher swing or Gomez can go on the first pitch or maybe two, you're severly limiting the options for him to swipe second base, which is one of the very few things he can actually do very well. Aside from that, I'm really liking it.
  9. The JS Blog is reporting it, though no confirmation from the Brewers yet. The scouting report from there: Herrera, 26 is a little guy -- 5-foot-6 -- who doesn't throw hard (83-85 mph with his fastball). He does throw a screwball that is tough on lefties. In 113 games with the Reds from 2008-'10, he went 5-7 with a 3.62 ERA. In 92 innings, he allowed 104 hits and 33 walks with 66 strikeouts and a 1.489 WHIP. Against lefties, Herrera has averaged 7.2 strikeouts per nine innings and 2.77 walks, with a .206 batting average. Righties have hit .362 against him. Herrera came to the Reds from the Rangers in the 2007 trade that sent Josh Hamilton to Texas and pitcher Edinson Volques to Cincy.
  10. Unless this is wrong, Braddock didn't pitch at all in the first six innings...wasn't he supposed to start? That doesn't seem good.
  11. Our new IT security at work, making me click "accept" to the fact that visiting brewerfa.net is indeed work related. Good thing my boss flat out doesn't care. But it's still annoying.
  12. Does he have any talent? Doesn't seem like we really need him, especially if we have to clear a 40 man spot for him.
  13. Well we have the "easiest" because we have six games against the Twins, who are terrible. That's out of our control as our rival. The thing that's not fair is the Red Sox, Yankees and Rays. If you take out the "natural rival" part of it, we have to have the most difficult interleague of anyone, plus 3 of our 5 series are on the road.
  14. Time to keep the momentum going. We owe them big time from April. We've hit Gorzelanny pretty hard at MP, let's hope that continues tonight. And that Yo finally finds his form from last year. These next six games are really huge I think. We're riding the 3 game winning streak, the thought/power of the Prince walkoff still fresh in peoples minds. Six home games against Washington and SF...gotta get at least 4 of them.
  15. It's an interesting option. Three things for me: 1 - Would he even want to play in Milwaukee? It's quite a bit different than Boston. 2 - Could he actually handle first base even adequately? I think he'd be a definite downgrade from Prince at 1b, and that's saying something. 3 - Can he hold up playing the field every day? He's a big dude, already showing some signs (mainly last year) of decline...could he stay healthy and productive playing the field 140+ games a year? I have my doubts on all 3...plus, the whole Gamel situation. But it's something interesting to think about I guess. He would certainly provide a power threat and protect Braun in the order.
  16. The 13th pitcher is just a complete and utter waste of a roster spot. Dillard has been up for over a week now and has yet to appear in a game. The 13th pitcher just isn't needed. Having Boggs on the roster would be much more beneficial then keeping a 13th pitcher to do absolutely nothing.
  17. I'm with the Cheez here....it's not that Lucroy didn't catch Wolf that bothers me. He needs a day off here and there. It's the fact that over the weekend, he only played in ONE game. He's our best hitter average wise on the team and without him at the bottom, our lineup has a giant blackhole in it from 6-9. If you insist on having someone else catch for Wolf, which is fine, but then don't sit him down other days for no real reason. Plus, as mentioned, the dropoff from Lucroy to Nieves is THIS big. It's just awful. After yet another hitless performance yesterday, I believe Nieves average has now dropped to .150. That's less than half of Lucroy and his .320ish average. I don't know who Nieves knows or what secrets he has, but the man has no business being on a major league team.
  18. It's the highlight of the season so far... but the Brewers were 7-3 in the previous 10 games, so it's not like they weren't already playing well. They definitely were playing better before, but this just felt different. It was a type of game we had found ways to lose multiple times this year. Things looked bleak a few times and then in a blink, we had one. The crowd was crazy. That just seems to be a signature moment that we'll remember for a long, long time. Especially if they go on a run here.
  19. We have 3 catchers, one of them can easily go to make room for him. Hopefully Nieves. He would finally provide the power threat off the bench. It makes sense, so it won't happen.
  20. How about last night as the defining moment? Not giving up, tieing it twice and then snatching a victory from the jaws of defeat with a walkoff bomb....has to be the highlight of the season to this point. Maybe this will spark us....I hope so.
  21. Watched the replay like ten time already, still awesome. Anyone know where I could hear the radio call? I think it wouldn't have been Uecker but still probably cool to listen to if it's around. The roar of the crowd after contact was awesome on TV. Imagine the radio would be even better.
  22. OK, I've settled down and have some breath back in me. I'm home alone watching it and I was jumping around the room with nobody to high five. Right after we gave up the run, a buddy texted me and said "mark this down as the day our season died". I just texted him back and said "mark this down as the day we got the spark and the season turned around". Man I hope I'm right. If that doesn't get them going I don't know what will.
  23. Kept it at one at least. Hart can hit #1 here. Or a bloop and a blast and this win can be that much sweeter. This just feels like a game that could really kill us if we lose it...
  24. Our entire season is like this. Whatever can go wrong does. Any time we make a mistake, it hurts us. The error is brutal. We get the out, then a pop up falls two feet fair and we give up the run. This is just brutal. Come back and tie it twice, can't drive in any runs, then hand them runs twice in extra innings. It's not over, but I have no faith in our ability to do anything right to win a game like this.
  25. That could not have been any easier at all. Two hopper. Right to you. Didn't have to move and you boot it. Should be two outs, nobody on and a pitcher up. Wow, out at third at least.
