  1. It seems like in the last week or two, the opposing teams are just killing us with Infield singles and bloopers that find the grass. When is it our turn for those to happen 2-3 times a game??
  2. Nope, doesn't matter at all. We'll be staying until Monday so I'm sure we'll be going out somewhere after the game.
  3. I'm heading down to Houston for the games this weekend and might try to get something signed. I figure my chances are better in Houston (decked out in Brewers gear) than in Milwaukee. I'm assuming any player, if they sign at all, will only sign one thing for me. What would everyone bring to get signed? Keep in mind, I have to get this on a plane, back and forth, and carry it around the game and whatnot. I was thinking of just picking up a few balls and carrying them in.
  4. I think I was sitting right next to you....were you wearing a hat? Talking to the teacher from MPS?? Maybe I just caught Gallardo at the wrong moment then, sounds like he was OK with everyone else. I will say that his signature did look pretty decent, at least readable. I'll join into the mix on this one and say that the Brewers (suprisingly after they way they handled season and opening day tickets) handled this incredibly well. The lines were fast, far apart from each other so there was no confusion of any kind. Very nice work by the Brewers.
  5. Me and a couple of guys will be heading down to Houston this weekend for the Brewer series. Anyone else going to be down there, or live in the area? I'm sure we'll be hitting up some bars both before and after all 3 games. The more the merrier if you are interested (all 3 of us are 25-30). I have a couple of questions for anyone that has been down there. #1 - We're staying at the Hilton, which is about a half mile away according to MapQuest. How is the area downtown? Would it be OK to walk back and forth? (keep in mind it might be pretty late if we go out near the stadium after the game) Or should we try to take cabs? #2 - What is the autograph situation like? I'm probably only going to go early one day and figure I have a better chance of getting a Brewers player in Houston than I do here. Can you get to the dugout area without tickets for those seats? Is that the best spot to get them? #3 - Anything in Houston that we absolutely need to see while we are there (either in the stadium or the city)?? We're planning a day trip to Galveston to hit up the beach for a few hours on Saturday and we're thinking of taking a tour of Minute Maid Park, but that's about it. #4 - Anyone know of any good sports bars or restaurants near the stadium? Thanks for the info.
  6. Anyone else go to Autograph Friday last week? It was really packed. I went and got Braun (barely). I was a bit disappointed though because he signed my 8 x 10 in a silver pen and the last 1/4 of his signature is a bit hard to read. The girl a few in front of me gave him the marker and he just kept using it. I didn't realize that was what he had until he was already signing. It still looks ok, just as visible as a blue would have been. Can't complain too much as I was lucky to get it as I was about 85th in line and they had initially cut the line off 5 people in front of me. Other than Braun, the only other "big" name was Gagne, and even his line was long.
  7. I got Gallardo's ball today and he seemed less than thrilled to be there. I was one of the first in line and he didn't respond when I said hello, thank you or good luck the rest of the season. He said absolutely nothing and hardly looked at me other than to take the ball out of my hand. My GF got Hart and she talked with him for a bit, which almost has to mean that he initiated the conversation (she was first in line) because she is incredibly shy.
  8. Why exactly was Shouse not in to face Utley?
  9. C'mon Billy, win the game for us here.
  10. I can't see what's going on. Someone help?? Pujols hit a grounder that should have ended the game and Weeks threw it away? Is that right?
  11. Is Tony Gwynn even going to be in Milwaukee on April 26th??? I also got that email but when I was reading the paper today they said that Tony would be in Nashville on his rehab assignment until next week....how's that going to work?
  12. Apparently nobody on here has seen Rickie Weeks signature? It's a bunch of random squiggles, the only part that even remotely looks like anything in his name is the 23 on the end of it, lol. I'll try to take a picture of the ball I have when I get home. It is far and away the worst signature I have ever seen. Unless he's changed it in the last couple of years.
  13. That still gives us 13 pitchers though, leaving very little room for PH options at the end of the game. Especially if Ned won't ever put the backup catcher in to PH....assuming our regular lineup, that leaves us a bench of Gross/Kapler, Counsell and Dillon...and that's it.
  14. Does this mean that 2 pitchers are going down in the spots taken by Gwynn (who should be back shortly) and Gallardo?? Interesting that they sent down a position player (especially while Kapler is hurt) and brought up another pitcher when we have one coming back in 3 days.
  15. Pitching around him puts the winning run in scoring position, I'm assuming the OF is deep so it would be tough to score on a double unless it's a 3-2 pitch...meaning he has to hit a HR probably to win the game. That being said...I'd still be extremely careful and make a PH beat us.
  16. I'm at work...I see Counsell at 2-2...did he not attempt to bunt or did he not get it down on the first 2 strikes?
  17. For awhile, I really thought that it was the fact that it was a Cub that was upsetting me, but based on most of your comments, I'm not the only one that thinks Soriano's stupid little hop is just flat out ridiculous. Whew!
  18. Personally, I like Turnbow and think he can help this team. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if he was moved. The fans have lost trust in him, and I'd imagine that is effecting Turnbow, though he hasn't been put in a spot to be booed at home yet. If we do trade him though, I would hope we could get slightly more for a PTBNL. He throws extremely hard, can be lights out and as has been pointed out, isn't as bad as people percieve him to be. I would at least hope for some sort of middle tiered prospect.
  19. Apparently it's a strained right calf, so it doesn't sound too serious. It's one thing to have a little quirk in the outfield like keeping your glove closed or tapping your leg, but there is very little reason to simple hop when you're about to catch a routine fly ball. In any other player, I probably would have just let it go, but the fact that he's incredibly arrogant on every homerun he hits (billyhallfan provided an excellent example), that it makes me think that the hop has way more to do with ego then it does timing or quirkiness. While I'm on the HR subject, why is that guys like Soriano and Manny Ramirez can showboat and act cocky after homeruns (Soriano does a spin sometimes, throws the bat...Manny, well he just stands there at home plate until the ball leaves the yard and nothing seems to be said, but when Ryan Braun last year did a relatively minor thing by staring into his OWN dugout for a second or two, it became a huge issue about how cocky he is...and he wound up being beaned for it.
  20. I'm getting really sick of these strike zones. Weeks K in the first was clearly inside, and Ankiel 1-2 pitch easily crossed the plate, yet he doesn't get rung up. Terrible.
  21. Not sure if anyone else is watching, but Soriano just injured something in his ankle/foot in the top of the first inning. He had to immediately leave the game. I say due to his own cockiness because he got injured not tracking a ball down or sliding or anything like that, but rather while doing his stupid little "hop" before he catches a routine fly ball. There is no reason to "hop" in the outfield other than acting cocky (well, thats my opinion as a former high school outfielder). The Cubs announcer say he does it as a timing thing...uh, timing what exactly? When to open your glove to catch the fly ball? It's probably not too serious, but he did have to leave the game. I find it ammusing as I find him incredibly arrogant (every HR he hits being an example), and have always thought that he hopped just to try to showboat. Thoughts? Edit: Removed excess punctuation in title. - Toby
  22. I'd be just fine taking him at #16 or #32, but it really sucks that we couldn't pony up the dough a couple years back. We'd already have him in the fold and wouldn't be using one of our better draft picks to "redraft" someone.
  23. If you're going to play the HR game, there are a few other modifications to make the game a bit more interesting: 1. Have each player add a dollar after each round (if you have 4 guys, after everyone has had the money once, have everyone re-ante). 2. Inside the park homeruns are worth triple. Not like this has ever happened at a game I was at, but if it does, everyone pays the winner an additional 2 antes. 3. Pitcher homeruns are worth double. Again, doesn't happen much, but someone is going to get the pitcher batting at least twice, sometimes 3-4 times a game. It's almost a guranteed loss, so they should have something going for them. 4. Grand slams could have more value, we've never done this but it's been talked about.
  24. He's not on the team anymore, but I saw him mentioned somewhere else in the thread so....I always just referred to Kevin Mench as "Head". That's it, just head, it just seemed so natural.
  25. We've played a few times, but every time we play it seems to grow into a huge pot. We generally only call it a "win" if the ump throws the ball and it stops on the mound somewhere. We re-ante after each half inning, so with 5 guys, the pot grows pretty quick. It's a decent sidegame to play every now and again. We also do the HR game....very basic...everyone puts in a couple bucks and the money goes down the line with each hitter (Brewers only), if you have the money when a HR is hit, you win the pot. If your hitter does anything other than a homerun, you pass the money on to the next guy (it then goes back in reverse order so the person on each end gets it twice in a row, regardless of the outcome). This one tends to get won more often, especially with our roster.
