The problem with that play is no one covered the flat. I don't know why such mistakes happen so often. The DBs seem to be on totally different pages on many plays. That pass wouldn't have gotten a first down if the DB was where he was suppose to be. Well, that was happening almost every play in the 2nd half. And that's the problem. It seemed to me like we were playing deep zones the entire half - on purpose. Which is just bad all over the place. If that wasn't the case, then how do we have DB's out of position on almost EVERY play. Every time we're in zone, someone is wide open. I know we have young guys playing, but a lot of these young guys have been playing for a few games now and should at least know basic coverage schemes, and if they don't - that's bad coaching. Prime example was the 3rd and 11 around the 16-18 yard line. We rushed 3 guys, so had 8 guys in coverage. Dallas sent out 4 guys into routes in one in the flat. So 8 to cover 5, and only about 25-30 yards of field to worry about. And yet, Witten runs a basic route and is WIDE OPEN at the first down marker. Aikman talked about the soft zone coverage we were in - WHY??? It's a huge play and the only thing behind you is the end zone - you aren't going to get burned deep. It made zero sense. And that happened over and over and over again it seemed.

I don't think Capers is to blame for bad defensive backs and linebackers that can't cover. That's on Thompson. Agreed. This might be Capers best year considering what he has to use. Lack of talent and injuries have killed the depth all around. Packers need to go hard on the defensive side of the ball in the upcoming draft. But also don't be fooled. The Cowboys have one of the best offensive lines I've seen. Along with that, Elliot and Dez are elite. Dak is emerging. Witten still gets the job done. Dallas is potent. The Packers D has held their own the last half of the season. It seems like we go hard on defense in almost EVERY draft. The last 5 first round picks were on defense (and 7 of the last 9). I could be wrong (and I'm too lazy to go back and add it all up), but it sure seems like if you look at the first 3-4 rounds of the draft, it's been way more defensive players than offensive. The problem is...a lot of them haven't developed into very good players. Or as others have said, Ted is drafting who he wants, regardless if they fit what Capers actually wants to do on defense. But I'm with you, we need an influx of talent on that side of the ball. Too bad we won't sign any FA, it doesn't always work, but sometimes it does - like the NYG this year. Defense was awful. Went out and signed 4-5 guys and completely changed their entire defense.

I don't think Capers is to blame for bad defensive backs and linebackers that can't cover. That's on Thompson. I think it's a tandem effort. When you're given linebackers that can't cover, would you continue calling coverages that ask guys to do things you know they can't do? If you have a defensive coordinator that calls/runs a certain type of defense, do you go get guys who aren't able to do the things the playcalling requires them to do? This is what's really REALLY maddening about the Thompson/Capers duo to me, it's like Thompson doesn't understand that Capers needs certain types of players to run his defense, and Capers absolutely refuses to adjust his defense when he doesn't have the players he needs to run the defense he wants to run. That last part is what gets me. I think everyone agrees there is a problem - the defense right now just isn't good. We can't generate pressure (either through the front 3/4 or from blitzing), but regardless of how many guys we send, on most plays, there's someone running wide open somewhere in the field. And unless we get turnovers, we don't get many stops. Regardless of who is at fault - the fact that Capers doesn't really seem to adjust his defense in any way to maximize whatever talents they have is baffling. So the roster sucks, fine, but try something different, try to make it work. To just back in soft coverages because we're afraid of being burned deep just simply isn't working.

I'll admit...I had a bad feeling as the second half played out. Like a "here we go again" feeling as it's happened so many times to this team it feels like - where we either blow a lead in the fourth or have our season end in devastating fashion. Great clutch kicks by mason. I don't think this loss would have been on McCarthy (other than the second down call mentioned above), but there's something about his teams that just always seem to not end games or blow big leads...that was certainly creeping in tonight as the offense went scoreless for over 20 min in the second half. But...for the first time in seemingly forever, Packers found a way to win it in the end. Atlanta defense certainly can be scored on. Might have to win another shootout though. I have very little faith in our defense to stop anyone. Anyone else wondering where Clay has been? He's basically been invisible for awhile now...and he's being blocked one on one virtually every play. We need to pressure Ryan somehow someway or he is going to eat us alive out there I think.

Boycott Steve's on Bluemound (SOBs)
brwrsfan replied to AdvantageSchneider's topic in Off-Topic Forum
I don't know if it was played through the jukebox. I assume so. If you can turn the volumn up I assume you can skip a song or mute it if you want. The bar was not full, rather empty, SOBs is a pretty big place. It was the Friday night before New Years. Slims was closed when we left at 1AM. I don't see how you get more tips by playing tha song. We weren't the only ones booing. I really don't see THAT big of an issue with it. If someone paid money to play the song and the bar was more or less empty...then who cares? It Yeah, they could have skipped it I suppose (and yes, they can do that), but is it really that big of a deal? It's just a song. The jukebox is there for people to play whatever they want - if a customer paid money to play it, they kind of have a right to hear it. If it was going to cause a riot or fight or be a big issue, then sure skip it. But as you said...the bar wasn't full. As far as tips go, if the Cubs fans were sitting at the bar and maybe had a large tab (or even if they didn't), if the bartender skips the song they just paid money to play...you don't see how that could negatively effect their tip?? Having bartended in the past, I can tell you first hand that you go out of your way to keep customers happy with hopes that they'll reward you with a tip - especially on a slow night. -

In what context was this played? Was it played on the Jukebox thing where someone in the bar played it? How do we know that the bar itself was responsible for it? The volume was probably them, but again, what was the context? Was it a full bar or just a few people? If it was a few people and it was the bartender doing it...well, that's probably just to get more in tips. Can't blame them for doing so. It's also hard to blame the entire bar itself, yeah it happened there, but the actions of one bartender doesn't make the entire bar anti-Brewers. -
They have the two "stars" now so to speak - both of which should still improve pretty substantially over the next couple of years. They still have a ton of holes on the team though, and no cap space thanks to some terrible contracts they've handed out. Hopefully Middleton can really fill in some of those gaps when he returns (primarily the lack of an outside shooter).
-
I did get the flag, and I thought it was pretty cool. I was somewhat disappointed that it was the "M" logo though. There's nothing wrong with it, but I just very much prefer the ball and glove.

Agreed. No sense in worrying about stopping teams in the playoffs unless we actually make it. I'd imagine we probably beat the Vikings next week, but winning at Detroit is going to be a tough task. I don't see Tampa or Washington losing enough for us to get the WC so that might be our only shot. Crowd in Detroit I'm sure will be wild, but the Lions are a tough team to get a read on - they've won so so many games that they probably shouldn't have - all those 4th quarter comebacks, some of which were like 1% chance of winning. Is their luck finally running out? As far as yesterday goes, it's not really that surprising at this point is it? It's pretty much the exact replica of every other game McCarthy has coached with a big league. Never go for the throat. Get conservative on both sides of the ball. We seemingly rushed 4 with soft coverage the entire 4th quarter and they just ate us alive.

What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brwrsfan replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Sure, Stearns doesn't have a definitive answer on either. But it's up to him to figure out what he THINKS those answers are. He has to have some sort of plan in mind as to how long the rebuild is going to take (obviously just a plan, no way to ever know for certain). -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brwrsfan replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I may have a slightly different take on this, but I think for me it would boil down to two things that Stearns and his team need to figure out: 1 - When do they feel the team can realistically compete for a playoff spot? 2 - How do they predict Braun will be playing at that time? I know we all have our opinions on both of these things, but what we think ultimately doesn't matter. It's what Stearns thinks - which unless someone here has inside information, none of us know. If Stearns and the Brewers really believe that we can compete in 1-2 seasons (I don't unless a lot of things go perfect), but if they do....then they might be looking at Braun as a valuable leader/veteran that could help a relatively young team. If they feel that even with regression, Braun is still going to be a high level player for the next 2-3 years, again, they may not feel that they have to dump him for "the best offer" just to get rid of him. If Braun is still playing at a high level and we can compete with him...well then maybe we keep him. I know there's been a lot of talk about how there's no room for him, he doesn't fit the mold, etc. But the fact is that nobody we have in our minor leagues is a legit "can't miss' prospect. Brinson maybe, and he's the closest, but after him....Ray? Phillips? Those guys are no sure thing by any means so Braun "blocking" them isn't a certain thing - plus there's also the possibility that Santana flops (as he has to some extent) or is traded as well. I don't have the answers to any of these things, just my own opinions. There's a lot of variables and things to try to figure out. Could they wind up dumping him for a marginal offer? Sure. Could he remain a Brewer? Sure. Could they get him to waive the no trade clause in a few years? Sure (he has that mutual option that he could say he wants exercised or a player option for example). I think all of these are certainly possible. -
About the only thing I watch live is sports (and every now and again record those too). Virtually EVERYTHING else I watch on TV I record with DVR and watch it at a later date - I don't even know when most shows are on to be honest. With two small kids that have swimming, gymnastics, tee ball, etc, not to mention actually playing with them and doing other things around the house, I rarely have time to sit down and watch TV before they go to bed - and if I do, it's sports. There's also a lot of shows that I like that would overlap the sporting events I like to watch, so having the DVR and being able to record anything I want is a huge priority. Honestly...just about everyone I know has a DVR of some kind and records shows.

It seems like purely a money dump - are we really in that bad a spot that we need to save the million or so? There's hardly anything to the payroll right now as it is. Saving money is saving money I guess, but I'd have rather we got any sort of prospect for him - even just a marginal prospect than another average catcher - we already had Susac and Pina to replace Maldy if we wanted to move him.

Wow. I understand events can be traumatic and I don't know exactly what she went through of course, but I can't imagine living in a place like Wisconsin and being completely unable to drive in any snow at all. I mean, flurries and things like that can come on a moments notice - that's gotta just make things very, very difficult. I don't think I could handle that - I'd have to throw down the ultimatum I think - if that means moving somewhere without snow, then I guess that's what I'd have to do.
-
I know this is going to sound obvious, but have you checked the dish itself? Mine does the same thing when there is really super wet snow or high winds that blow the snow around - even though it's designed to not stick to the dish, snow often does, which knocks the signal out. This happened to me twice this year already. It could explain why it's been out for hours and hours - as it would take a long time for that to melt off of there once it starts accumulating. I just got the ladder out and a broom and just brushed it off and the signal came back immediately. Doesn't happen all that often, maybe 3-4 times a year if it's a super wet thick type snow. Might be something to look at just in case, as it could be a simple fix.

Interestingly, Giannis best year shooing 3s was his rookie year, believe it or not. Shot 35%, which isn't all that bad- especially for a rookie. I've seen him get in groove shooting 3s in warm-ups, draining a bunch in a row. So he can do it, but a whole other matter doing it consistently in games. Thing is, if he isn't a 28-30 point guy that's ok with me. He does so many other things for you. I almost rather have Jabari and Middleton share in the scoring role, and let Giannis be a triple double machine. By the way, Jabai has improved his three ball, and I could see him improving that shot as time goes on. I hadn't realized that. I guess my point was that he's at least attempting the shot more - not with a ton of success but he's attempting a full attempt per game more than last season. So at least he's starting to take them. His second year he took less than 1 a game because he couldn't make them. And when defenders sag off of him, it makes all the other great things he does that much harder.
-
Giannis has started taking jumpshots and threes this year, which is great. But they don't look very fluid and he's still not making a large percentage of them. But the fact that he's even attempting them is helping his game tremendously. If he can just make even marginal strides there the next couple years - and just become close to an average three point shooter - LOOK OUT. The rest of his game is already top 10 NBA caliber. This would legit put him in the elite of the elite IMO. Parker isn't really that close yet, but he's definitely getting better and developing rapidly. Different type of player, but the two of them together could be quite formidable. As others have said, the supporting cast isn't great. But hopefully they can piece that together in the next couple of years and we could really be on to something. Also....the fear is already creeping into my head that this will all be for naught. That these guys will become stars and promptly leave Milwaukee. Hope not and that's 3-4 years away at least. But it would suck to finally get a legit superstar and have him leave town.
-
I know he has less than ideal size, but does anyone know if Gennett has ever even attempted to play anywhere else? Like RF or 3B? Did he ever try any other positions in the minors or anything? From what I recall (which is hazy at best) he was pretty much always at 2b but I wasn't sure if that's just because we needed him there or if he just physically can't play anywhere else?

Sale to Boston - Huge Return for the White Sox
brwrsfan replied to brwrsfan's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Little easier to do when you have almost unlimited funds. They can fill those voids down the road pretty easily with free agency if they need to. -
Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 2m2 minutes ago BREAKING: Sale to #RedSox. Moncada, Kopech and two other prospects to #WhiteSox.
-
It's hard to argue that he's wrong IMO. Yes, the players were the ones that ultimately took the drugs, but there were many, many people that simply just let it happen. Selig more or less encouraged it after the strike to try to get fans back. I hadn't really thought of it, but it really is pretty hypocritical to continuously punish the players (who I think should be in anyways) but give all the enablers of it a free pass.

I have 2 tickets (general admission) for the Cole Swindell concert this Saturday night at the Rave. Bought them awhile back, can't make it now unfortunately. Just about everything there is general admission. Tickets were about $45 each with all the fees, but I'm willing to let them go for quite a bit less than that if anyone wants them. Just looking to move them at this point. Only catch...I only have the hard tickets, so we'll have to meet somewhere in the Milwaukee/Waukesha area in the next 3 days. Make me an offer if interested, ideally like to sell them both together if possible. Thanks!!

I wish the Bucks could play with that type of intensity and fire every not, not just when the Cavs and Warriors are on the floor with them. They looked great last night, with back to back games against the Nets coming, hopefully they can use that Cavs game as a spark and go on a little run. No reason they shouldn't sweep the Nets here.

I have no issues with the claim, worth a shot to see if we can help him figure it out. I do have an issue with all of these OF's on the 40 man. I can't figure out why they still have Nieuwenhuis, he's not good. He's not part of the future and there are a whole bunch of guys just like him that we can add later if we want. Between him and Gorfoth, there's two spots that I'd much rather use on a younger guy than risk losing them. Losing either of those two really isn't a big deal in any way.
