  1. I'm pretty sure we didn't give up a draft pick. We gave up some money in the international signing pool. Not the same thing. Per espn: The Astros also acquire the 76th international signing slot for the 2015-16 signing period.
  2. I'd take anything we could get for Cotts at this point. Though I think we could maybe get something (not much) for guys like Broxton in August. Very little, but I'd take virtually anything for him at this point.
  3. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal · 11s12 seconds ago If #BlueJays make another move, preference would be another starter. At some point could also consider left field.
  4. Fiers and Parra to Toronto? They've had interest in Fiers for awhile now. And Parra could certainly play LF. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal · 11s12 seconds ago If #BlueJays make another move, preference would be another starter. At some point could also consider left field.
  5. DM seems to have overplayed his hand. A lot of teams wanted him and we held out and they went and bought elsewhere. It's hard envisioning too many teams that we can still even trade him too, not to mention actually get a fair return for him. I can't blame him too much on Gomez and Lind as he can trade them later. But the others - Parra and Cotts specifically, should have been moved a long time ago. And to make it worse, Parra is starting tonight. Yeah that makes sense. Let's risk him getting hurt on the even of the deadline.
  6. I don't have that much of an issue with Gomez and Lind playing - as at this point, it sure seems like we'll have them the rest of the year. But Parra being in the lineup is just stupid. We simply have to trade him by tomorrow, even if we don't like the return. Why risk the chance of him getting hurt on the eve of the deadline??? Makes no sense at all.
  7. I like the white and green ones. But that black one just simply doesn't look right to me. Hope they don't wear that one very often.
  8. The thought that crossed my mind was when the Mets got cold feet (or the Wilpons told Alderson to back out of it), is that when they couldn't find anything in the medical reports for Gomez, they resorted to Googling "Carlos Gomez Injury" and found the article where Gomez mentions he's been icing and wrapping his hip and thought "OOOHH, there's our out!" It's not even that far-fetched based on the craziness of the events over the past 18 hours. Sadly, no, it's really not that far fetched. It sure seems like that's actually pretty close to what happened. I stand by my bush league comment...
  9. Technically, the Mets were within their rights I guess, they can site virtually anything in a medical report and say it scares them. That said, this is a pretty bush league move IMO.
  10. Anyone else starting to get concerned that we waited too long, particularly on Parra? Other teams are filling holes, my teams are now selling and yet we're still sitting here having done nothing other than trade Ramirez. I'll wait to judge until after the deadline, but to this point, DM sure seems to be blowing this.
  11. This just keeps getting stranger and stranger. The truth is in here somewhere...it sure seems to me that someone (the Mets) got cold feet or something. As the hip stuff makes absolutely no sense given Boras comments and they didn't obviously see Gomez in person. Tom ‏@Haudricourt · 54s54 seconds ago People I trust tell me Mets did have concern with Gomez's hips, as @Ken_Rosenthal first reported. But was told it shouldn't have nixed deal.
  12. Seeing a tweet or two that the Indians are still interested in Gomez and have contacted the Brewers after the trade fell through. Anyone have any ideas what we could expect from Cleveland (using the mets trade as a baseline I'd imagine).
  13. Scott Boras: “Carlos Gomez has never seen a hip doctor and has never had a hip issue in his playing career. Anyone who suggests that is ……inaccurate and baldly misrepresenting the truth of the player’s condition.” Sure seems pretty strong there. I guess he has no choice, but I'd highly doubt Boras would just flat out lie about it. And if the Mets had hip concerns, they'd had to have seen some sort of medical diagnosis or MRI's or something - as they clearly never got to an actual physical. Doesn't seem like those MRI's ever even took place so......something doesn't make sense here....hmmm....
  14. So Cleveland...with this Mets deal in place, what would a comparable deal be from the Indians? How would you feel if you were a Mets fan? They need a bat, have a trade to get one in place, and it gets nixed. Then Gomez gets traded a day or two later? I still don't buy any injury at all to Gomez. Certainly not one that you'd nix a trade like this over.
  15. Adam McCalvy ‏@AdamMcCalvy · 43s44 seconds ago Doug Melvin said he couldn't confirm that it's Gomez's hip. Said there was "small level of discomfort" from one of the teams that nixed deal
  16. If Gomez really has a hip issue, the Brewers would be smart to get it looked at it and shut him down to they can trade him in the off-season. Though, I'm still not buying it. He seems perfectly fine. Boras is adamant that he's perfectly fine. Something has to give here. Guess we will see if/when the Brewers actually trade him. If in fact there is an actual problem, the Brewers could be in a very difficult spot with Gomez.
  17. Well this is an interesting twist (though I'm not sure I buy it): Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal · 1m1 minute ago Sources: #Mets backed out of trade due to concern over hip issue with #Brewers’ Gomez. He has about 5 other tweets about it.
  18. It's possible we've had his medical records for a day or two and wanted our doctors to look them over. I'd imagine the MRI's and such with TJ surgery are pretty easy to read for a trained professional. MLB network about to address the situation. So we have medicals for 2 days and they don't have Drs. look at them, until the deal is leaked and then at 9PM they have the drs look at them and 2 hours later no deal. I know that's not the timeline, but just seems really weird that at 9pm you have a deal, and at 11pm you don't. Those aren't dr's hours, unless there are ER drs. It would seem to me that if I'm casually talking about trading for a guy in the middle of TJ recovery, the first thing I'm asking for is the medicals, and I'm having my drs. looking at them right away before we get anywhere near the point where a deal would be leaked. But that's just me. We'll never really know (it would be illegal for them to tell us whats on the records). Maybe they were going through a risk/reward scenario. Maybe they were waiting on a second opinion. Who knows. But I do agree, the whole thing is pretty strange.
  19. Tom ‏@Haudricourt · 2m2 minutes ago Hipaa laws prevent Melvin from saying what nixed trade but it obviously was a concern over Wheeler's Tommy John recovery. Melvin said both sides were convinced it was a good deal but it was contingent on medicals. Then news got out and went with it. Tom ‏@Haudricourt · 33s33 seconds ago One last item though. Melvin said when word got out on Twitter about trade, Gomez was told it was set to go if medicals passed. But didn't.
  20. Tom ‏@Haudricourt · 50s51 seconds ago Just heard from #Brewers GM Doug Melvin. Gomez trade was in place. Medicals did nix it. Couldn't give details. Story coming.
  21. Alright well...now what? He won't be a Met. Indians? Orioles? Cardinals? (could the classies really handle that???). Stay put for the rest of the season?
  22. I don't think the Mets GM would have been this adamant and seemingly angry if they were still working on it. He wouldn't have said anything if they were still working on it IMO. Anything is possible, but I don't see it at this point.
  23. Tom ‏@Haudricourt · 1m1 minute ago Got this message from #Brewers GM Doug Melvin: "There is no trade happening. Trades are not completed until they are announced."
  24. It's possible we've had his medical records for a day or two and wanted our doctors to look them over. I'd imagine the MRI's and such with TJ surgery are pretty easy to read for a trained professional. MLB network about to address the situation.
  25. For those still up, MLB network is about to address the Gomez situation after this commercial break.
