Manuel Rodriguez faces three lefties right off the bat. Fly out to the RF warning track. Hanging breaking ball smacked into RF for a double. Groundout to Adamczewski at 2B handled cleanly. 2 outs - runner advances to 3B. A righty in clean-up with the man on 3B. AND DiTuri gets eaten up by a very routine grounder for the third out. Has to make that play. Weakly hit. Botched it - a 68 mph ball. Run scores via error. 1-0 score. AND, Rodriguez has to waste more of that precious starting arm. That was a lazy gather and the error showed such. Ohhhh Mr. Pratt how we miss that smooth sure thing! 😅

Last Minor League tidbit (given our Deadline passed with no action): Bitonti is playing 1B for the Mudcats tonight batting clean-up (he hasn't played an inning of 1B in his entire time in the ACL but I mentioned this was his clear easiest way to get in the Mudcats line-up given their overt lack of depth there) and he is being protected by Adamczewski playing 2B and batting 5th. THIS is very exciting.

Well, let's be honest: he's a ways off from earning any spot in the Brewers clubhouse based on defensive anything. BUT, getting him meaningful reps in the OF grass prepares him for possibly filling a role yet this season. Injuries happen. You never know. Selfishly, as a Minor League nerd, I simply want to see more reps. Is my intuition and read on this situation accurate? OR, is it fool's gold based on too few reps? I'm hoping I can learn with repeated games in Nashville manning an OF spot.

This just in: As I opined (and suspected) post-Wiemer in the Montas deal...Tyler Black is getting his first action in LF since the 2022 Arizona Fall League. I'll say it again: the OF grass certainly appears to be his best chance at becoming an MLB utility player. His athleticism really plays out there and the decisions have just a little more time to breathe. We need to see how he tracks and jumps and reads angles on a more consistent basis to make any truly informed proclamations but I've actually quite liked what I've seen in his limited exposure. This is an intriguing development happening on the fringes of the upper org depth chart(s).

As I mentioned in the Montas trade: The unexpected perk of seeing Wiemer head back to Cincinnati in the Montas deal is Black now becomes a major candidate to bolster the OF corps. I've said it several times recently and I'll say it again here: I personally believe the OF grass is Black's best chance to become a meaningful utility player. His innate athletic gifts play very well out there where I've seen him track down several challenging deep flies in his limited action. Now, hopefully, we get to see him get more exposure. How are his jumps and reads of the bats? How will his arm play? This is an exciting mini development.

My main excitement from today? INF Luis Pena was pulled in the DSL Cerveceros Uno game. He was 0-for-4 with 1 K (a very rare 0-for outing). I was legitimately lamenting possibly throwing this major-upside talent in to some type of starter rental deal. I can rest easy. The stud stays in the Brewers infield stables!

With prices as high as they were, I'm completely fine with this Deadline. This is always an experience year and see where the chips fall if they get to the post-season. I definitely didn't want to mortgage the future. I still feel as though 2025 is our best shot - everything in 2024 is Bonus Slot money in my mind.

Love that heart of the line-up! Also, a friendly reminder: we still have yet to receive word on the severity of what happened to CF Yophery Rodriguez in that run and halt down the 1B line early in that Salem series. Is it minor? Is it serious? Is it a hammy? Let's keep our fingers crossed!

The DSL Brewers Uno y Dos have scored the exact same number of runs so far in 2024. 219 apiece though the DSL Brewers #1 have played one fewer game. The DSL Brewers Uno y Dos have definitely not allowed the same number of runs. The DSL Brewers #1 have allowed 145 runs. The DSL Brewers #2 have allowed 212 runs. AND, that right there is very very much the difference between the two squads.

The Crew #2 flew out three consecutive AB's to strand their 11th inning Manfred Man. They opened the bottom half of the 11th with a lead-off Dodgers Mega Double to Lafond in LF but the runner didn't score from 2B (must have been too close to leave the bag). Credit to Lafond for getting the ball back in. AND, then a classic DSL inning really finished it off for the Crew #2's Loss: Strikeout, fly out to CF (same runner who didn't score from 2B on the lead-off 2B doesn't score via Sac Fly here). Runners on 2B and 3B. Two down. Walk. Walk. Game over. Ahhhhh yes. The 'L' will go to 17-year-old RHP Francisco Guevara. It's been a struggle for Guevara in his 10 G. BUT, given both runs surrendered today by Guevara were Manfred's Men they were unearned. His 17.55 ERA will actually lower in his 1 2/3 IP to 14.04. The 2.70 WHIP will likely stay about the same given he allowed 2 H and 2 BB in his outing. The DSL Brewers #2 fall again. They sit at 20-19 overall now losers of three straight.

The Brewers #2 got the quick first out force out at 3B. They had the upper hand. But that runner at first then took 2B. A pop out to 1B Eduardo Charles had the Dodgers Mega down to their last out. They hit a single into RF. 8-8 and they are now in the 11th frame. These updates come in a flurry after 20 minute delays with the limited Data.

We have a DSL Special inning going on in the 10th. The DSL Crew #2 start with their man (Polanco) on 2B. Quintana pops out to SS. The pitcher attempts a pick-off and throws into CF. Runner advances. Anderson pops out to 1B. Montero singles to 3B and Polanco scores. 8-7 Crew. Tovar going for the Crew #2's pop out infield cycle pops out to SS. A ball doesn't leave the infield off a bat and the Crew scores the go-ahead run.

Camilo worked around heavy traffic in the bottom of the 9th but, ultimately, struck out the final batter to leave the Dodgers bases dripping. 7-7 game.

The DSL Cerveceros Dos are clinging to a 7-6 lead over the nemesis that is the LA Dodgers Mega. They are headed to the Dodgers bottom half of the 8th. We see two-hit games, so far, from: CF Jose Anderson - 2-for-4, 2 R, 1 BB. Back to a 0.287 BA on the season with a 0.968 OPS tho the HR drought continues (I am being cheeky here but he hasn't hit a long ball since July 15th) RF Pedro Tovar - 2-for-5, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 2B - Tovar is having an excellent second season in the DSL for the Brewers. He is up to a 0.330 BA with a 0.860 OPS in 109 official AB. C Yoneiker Lugo - 2-for-3, 1 BB, 1 K - Lugo continues to do damage nearly every time he gets an opportunity behind the dish in just under 50 official AB as he splits time with his stablemates. Also of Note: Lead-off DH Moises Polanco has put forth a very admirable 1-for-3, 2 R, 2 BB bit of work. On the Pitching Side: 18-year-old Dominican RHP Justin Lugo gave crucial middle innings 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K. That's now 21 K in 14 IP for Lugo on the season. Zero walks in this one is massive as those have clearly been an issue. 19-year-old RHP Dominican Fabian Reyes held serve following Lugo with 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, and 3 K of his own. Reyes now holds a very impressive 19 K in 14 IP on his season. He has been very good out of the Pen to date. There may be some stolen bases for the Brewers Dos as well. I'm unsure...

We see multiple hit games from: SS Jesus Made: 2-for-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 3B - his 4th of his summer; what a debut season for Made who is now hitting 0.357 with a 1.057 OPS in 130 AB) 1B Juan Ortuno: 3-for-5, 3 R, 2 RBI, 1 3B - his 3rd 3-bagger and just a heck of a season for Ortuno as he eclipses 100 official AB today and is batting 0.350 with a 0.968 OPS 2B Juan Martinez: 3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 3B - his 4th of his summer, 1 SB - big bounceback game for the clearly talented Martinez. CF Engel Paulino: 2-for-4, 3 R, 4 RBI, 1 HR, 1 K - his first long ball of his summer was a 2-out special! 17-year-old Dominican RHP Ayendy Bravo (who we've brought up multiple times this summer) did the heavy lifting with 4 2/3 IP scoreless frames allowing a mere 1 H, 3 BB with 1 K. We are now in the 9th frame and still with the 12-1 DSL Cerveceros Uno lead. This will very likely be another huge 'W' - barring an epic collapse - for the Uno who are simply keeping pace with the red hot DSL Orioles Orange (now winners of 7 straight after today's 9-1 shellacking of the DSL Rojos) and will remain just 1.5 GB having, again (as I stated yesterday), played three fewer games due to weather events. Those make-up games obviously have a chance to carry huge implications down the line.
