INF Eduardo Garcia strikes out swinging on a breaking ball center cut and in. 1B Alex Hall falls to 0-2 immediately. Fouls off a pitch. Lays off a couple low offerings then strikes out swinging. That was a huge opportunity squandered by some of the more challenged bats in the line-up. -
Nope. The Metzinger struggles continue with a weak lunging pop out into 1B foul territory. All runners stay where they were. Double Play ball is now in the mix. Whewwww.

Miller takes the four pitch walk. The bases are drippin' sap. Nobody out for struggling 3B Ben Metzinger. Come on Metz. Give us something, baby! And, we have a pitching change.

After Big Bob's laser shot, DH Matt Wood singles to RF. He advances on a wild pitch. OF Joe Gray Jr. walks. Men on 1st and 2nd nobody down. We have a mound visit - an unscheduled consultation, if you will. C Darrien Miller to the dish to try and change the tune of his 0-for-2, 2 K first two trips.

Big Bob Moore is heating up. He just absolutely ripped a long ball to pull the T-Rats within 2-1 after RHP Max Lazar was the recipient of a very uncharacteristic (in 2023, at least) routine throwing error from INF Eduardo Garcia with two outs giving the Loons the chance to plate two runs. That was an absolute no doubter bat drop immediately after launch.

The Sounds have scored the first run versus Gwinnett here in game 2. The ol' bases loaded walk off the patient waiting bat of INF Brice Turang. 1-0. Bases still juiced. One down. C Payton Henry at the dish.

These Loons are giving the T-Rats pitching staff a dose of their disciplined AB's from yesterday. They aren't chasing. They are working counts. RHP Max Lazar is fighting through his first IP. Two down. Men on 1st and 2nd. Pitch count to 26. Still a 0-0 affair in the bottom of the 4th.

This series is my first time seeing Great Lakes live in 2023. They have absolute cannons at 3B and RF tonight. My word those young men can let it rip.

Boy, for as good as Misiorowski was in his first outing, he is really struggling with any semblance of consistent control tonight. He's fighting his stuff. And, yet, he executes his best pitch of his night for a beautiful K to leave the 3rd. That's probably all we're getting tonight. Approaching 70 pitches.

Gotcha. Then, yeah, given Hall double-pumped he clearly needs to throw inside. Boooo.

Replay showed that runner was running on the grass - clearly left the base path. I don't see that on Hall. Am I wrong? Certainly could be. Replay did show he left the base path by a good three feet.

Oh hey it's another infield ump blowing another call against Brewers affiliates. This time a runner clearly left the base path and ran into the infield grass and is plunked on the helmet ruining at least one out if not the chance at the double play. Ump just completely misses and avoids the call. Just absurd. Edit to Add: I may be a moron š

Misiorowski escapes the jam - tho his pitch count elevated into the low 40's - with his 2nd K of the inning on another breaking ball. 0-0 and we are into the top of the 3rd.

Misiorowski has now walked the first two batters in the 2nd frame on full counts - both counts started from behind, however. He grabs a K in three pitches in his third batter - middle up breaking ball. With his stuff generally not dialed, we're seeing the heat sit 95-97 mph as he looks to fine-tune within the start. Now we have an 0-2 Hit Batter. Bases are juiced. He was owning that count too. Just missed a K on a gorgeous breaking ball low and in.

Take those 11 free passes and 10 hits and toss them in the back yard for now. The T-Rats have struck out 5 times through 2 IP. LHP Justin Wrobleski is dealing early. Misiorowski escaped some control issues in the first but is on to pitch his 2nd frame. 0-0. Bottom of the 2nd.

OF Tyler Black has the longest OB streak in all the Minor Leagues at 33 games. He's making it look easy right now. Let's hope that remains the case. What's even crazier, Black has only not been on base in ONE game through all of 2023 (HBP on April 11th in his only other hitless walkless outing aside from his only zero across the board on April 27th)! Hercules! Hercules! Let's keep bringing the beef: Black leads the Southern League with 35 steals. He is two back of OF Croey Ray's 37 steals in the 2018 season IN 135 GAMES PLAYED. I mean, are there enough words to describe the season Black is having? The question I have is: Will Black be given enough games in Double-A to break Johnny Davis' steal record (52) of 2017 in 133 GP?

Turang, Dorrian, Devanney, Alvarez, VanMeter, Michael Brosseau, and VanMeter all adorn the INF dirt. Isaac Collins was called up because he can try to play the OF grass (albeit, not all that well). There isn't any room for a guy who strictly plays 2B with a very inconsistent offensive track record at Double-A. Every one of those guys listed can play 2-3 positions. Heck, they are playing Devanney at 1B. And, with Hiura set to return shortly even he has positional versatility with a much more established track record in Triple-A. AND, for as hot as Valerio has been, he still has a sub 0.700 OPS and is still just hitting 0.252. I see his current run as a classic rebound after his extremely bad luck with BABIP last season. Granted, obviously, if he kept up this torrid streak for another 3-4 weeks I agree with you. I guess what this says is: I don't see this streak lasting. š Anywho, this also brings me to: I sincerely wonder how Valerio is viewed within the organization. I would love to know.

2023 Minor League Transaction Thread

He still could be a very solid MLB reliever. In 2023 it would appear it's in his head. A change of scenery might be very good for him. OR, if he goes unclaimed, a re-assignment (staying in Biloxi or, heck, rediscovering himself in High-A) and continued work in reclaiming his stuff and presence on the mound. He is still just 23 years old. This is a by-product of a significant step back season and a regression after having earned Rule 5 rostered protection. Another team will see the work of 2022 and he will likely get scooped right up. -
He hasn't. It only feels that way. This is his second season. And, considering the massive log jam of versatile infield vets with the Sounds, that is most likely not happening any time soon - regardless of how hot his bat stays. We likely have to temper our enthusiasm here because Valerio is so positionally limited. They tried a LF experiment for a handful of games in 2022. That experiment, to date in 2023, has been restricted to INF/OF Isaac Collins. This is a very long-winded way of saying: I find it highly unlikely Valerio is promoted in 2023.š

First LHP Pablo Garabitos released off his return from the IL. Now, RHP Taylor Floyd traded to the Twinkies as the RHP Trevor Megill PTBNL. Go get it, Taylor! You will be missed. I loved your competitive fire since you rediscovered your best stuff at Wisconsin. Sighs.

Mudcats lose another heartbreaker, 6-5. C Jose Sibrian hit a long fly to make it interesting in the 9th inning. They have now lost 8 straight since holding that 1/2 game first place lead just a week ago. What a mighty free fall from the top of the mountain.

They've lost a lot of good players up-and-down that lineup. It's the nature of Low-A and it really tells you how much has come together for an entire half. They've also lost Misiorowski and Jimenez - their two true Aces. The pitching has scuffled in the past week plus after a really fantastic first half for the most part. And, with this being said, if I'm looking at players who simply need to perform better given this is the team the Mudcats currently have I am looking at a few faces in particular: OF Hedbert Perez (who has definitely swung a better bat of late), INF Jadher Areinamo (the same can be said here but overall I'd have to say it has been a disappointing first half in terms of production and results), 1B Jesus Chirinos (who has had a giant regression in 2023), and OF Jace Avina. These guys need to perform better more consistently given their skills and their previous successes.
