    Before we start getting into the continuation of a previous game versus the Fayetteville Woodpeckers today (game will start in the top of the 2nd) for the Mudcats game 1 of 2, let's take a quick look at another wonderful series recap from the Mudcats Media team. This from last week's 5-1 series victory at Columbia:

    I feel you. I feel that way about all the men in the Brewers Minor Leagues. 😅 It's always a bitter pill to swallow regardless of the inevitability year-in and year-out.

    All things considered, and I love Strzelecki's story, this is an absolutely fair price to pay for the Brewers organization. It's a worthwhile gamble for an area of need. The D-Backs see a 28-year-old who has experienced some success at the MLB level and has years of team control. It's a good trade/gamble for both teams. I hope Pete nails it in Arizona - a very likable young man.

    Honestly, I'm just thrilled it isn't LHP Daniel Norris. My low bar has been honored.

    It is very fair to question whether Cousin's days as a 'hard throwing' reliever are behind him given his arm injuries the past couple years. His velo was routinely down 3mph on average in nearly every outing with Nashville in 2023. It was really sad to watch, honestly. A shell of his best former self.

    Well that is about as fair a compensation package we could have hoped for. Sigh of relief. Man, it's so odd to see Cousins and Strez scuffle like they've scuffled and now both gone from the organization. I thank (Com)Pete for his service as a Brewer and hope he rediscovers that shutdown form we saw during last year's second half.

    Is Wilson done for the year? OR, is he dealing with short-term? I guess, this states: we don't know?

    And, well, my opinion on that is: if that's the way things shake out so be it. This is the landscape all organizations have to play in. The Brewers have to win differently. And they've been very good at doing so. BUT, this is not what has happened or is happening today. I'm going to enjoy my Minor League slate and the rest of this season and hope the Brewers catch lightning in a bottle.

    The Packers have had their coaching staffs and personnel departments pillaged for years. It's an inevitability in the small world of relationships-based professional sports. Develop, evolve, adapt etc. or perish. Nothing is certain. Sports moves in cycles and eras. Hopefully, the Brewers are set up for future success regardless of what happens with Stearns and the Mets.

    Good for him, if true. That's his childhood dream job. He deserves that opportunity and then some. I have absolutely zero qualms with how Stearns' tenure ended and how the hand-off to Arnold has progressed. It seems like a rare 'Win, Win' scenario to me.

I feel the nostalgia wafting through my screen door. <Sniffles> Back when OF Tristan Peters was making a name for himself on a nightly basis at Wisconsin(before he started hitting pesky game-winning hits for Montgomery vs the Shuckers) and RHP Stiven Cruz was promoted to Low-A ball after his rapid promotion from the DSL. Oh the sweet roller-coaster of a Minor League Brewers baseball season.

    Let us all remember CF Jackson Chourio's last AB in his first encounter with Marlins phenom, RHP Eury Perez , back on April 15th earlier this season: If I recall, correctly, this was a fun moment.😁

    Demetrio Nadal is what they call 'on One' in 2023. DSL Cerveceros Dos Game 2 is currently delayed but he was 1-for-1 with a 2B and a BB. He's an extremely under-discussed 19-year-old in the Brewers system. He took last year's 29 K: 22 BB script and flipped it (so far) to 15 BB : 8 K. He is hitting 0.382 with a 1.133 OPS in 98 PA's through the 5th inning today. He has 24 SB to 4 CS. In 12 games as a 3B he has a 1.000 fielding %. It's time to start noticing. And, this has been my public service announcement for the Brewers fandom community. *ALSO: Hats off to MiLB and MLB for the new look in-game box scores and game logs. Supper sleek new appearance!

    One contract to name them All One contract to sign them One contract to bring them All And in the dugout bind them... Or something like that... Don't sleep on C Jose Sibrian. Do not sleep on that young man. 39.29% CS rate. 0.866 OPS. At age 24, he's starting to really really make his mark at the backstop. A true joy to watch in Carolina. I do not take his consistency and ability to guide that young pitching staff (calls his own game) for granted as a nightly watcher.

    I personally find this trade quite impractical and highly unlikely to happen - for both teams for multiple reasons. BUT, for anyone who follows the broader MLB landscape one thing should be agreed upon here: Kim is a fantastic baseball player. Likely the MVP of the Padres season - what he has done since they made him their lead-off is remarkable. I still think he's a player most fans don't appreciate because the Padres lineup is stacked with big personalities and big names.

    Very easily the best week of Affiliated ball in 2023. A 19-5 overall mark is fantastic. The Sounds splitting @ Norfolk is also extremely impressive given the ongoing player shuffles in the dugout and in the pitching stables. I will look back fondly on this week in the off-season.

    What has Jackson Chourio done at Age 19 in the Southern League? Ummmm... 85 AB 0.388 BA 1.165 OPS 33 H 8 BB / 10 K 1 HBP 6 2B 2 3B 6 HR 24 R 20 RBI 9 SB 1 CS I mean. I have no words.

    AND, even if they did, neither played defense in the same stratosphere as Chourio. Chourio is just on an entirely different level of possible greatness. And, I should add Braunie started his Minor League journey 2 years older than Chourio is now at Helena. He always had an incredible bat, obviously. He turned 22 years old just after his Low-A season in the South Atlantic League. Fielder was obviously closer in age. Unfortunately, there is no MiLB database for 2004 - Fielder's Double-A season. For Braun, however, at age 22 (turned 23 in November of that year), he had a pretty remarkable July (2006) himself playing for Huntsville in the Southern League (he had been assigned to Double-A in late June): 76 AB 0.382 BA 1.111 OPS 29 H 7 BB / 12 K 10 2B 4 HR 14 R 12 RBI 5 SB 0 CS I'd call that a Heater for sure. 3 years older. Half the Defense. What Chourio has done this July is otherworldly.

    I am just sitting back. And absolutely enjoying Jackson Chourio. Brewers baseball is simply so much better with this young man in it. Pinch me!

    If that's the route it travels, fantastic. I literally just don't think about it. He's such a special talent I know their plan has worked insanely well to date. But, yeah, Chourio and Black could both quite easily take AB's at the MLB level right now. That isn't really the Brewer way. Having endured the past two Shuckers seasons this current run feels so validating on so many levels - for me as a fan; for the club as a whole; and for that city. They absolutely deserve a run like this. A significant part of me wants to see the Shuckers rewarded with a post-season run and a Double-A championship. Mike Guerrero is a baseball lifer. I want him to experience that joy and that success.
