  1. He absolutely crushed that ball. Just a rope. You knew it instantly. What a moment.
  2. OH BABY!!!!! Mario Feliciano just hit an absolute laser shot 103 mph off the bat into the stands in LF on a 3-2 heater. That's 3 HR in this series for Feliciano! What awesome stuff to see from the young Catcher and offensive juggernaut. His power is BACK in the late season at the absolute most important part of the Sounds season. WOW. Sounds lead 7-3. Man, what a season and what an incredibly fun team to watch.
  3. After Joey Wiemer struck out with the bases juiced to get the 2nd out for the Sounds, Big Jon Singleton takes his 101st walk (he's 4 off 2nd place in the Sounds record book. 10 more walks and he breaks the record), good for 3rd in all of Minor League baseball, laying off two extremely close non-strike calls on the outer half of the plate. Game is now tied 3-3. Bases still juiced here in the 5th for Mario Feliciano who is ahead 3-1 in the count.
  4. Seeing those ump sessions, it's just so classic Minor League umpiring. I spoke to it earlier in the season during the pivotal Taylor Floyd 5-run outing that led to his massive turnaround but I swear the umpire was one-upping him intentionally. Screwing him over on clear strike calls to prove a point. Auto-clock violation calls while he was leaving the mound for home. Just ugly ugly stuff. That Jarvis and Cipion ejection show is more of the same: bush league big timing nonsense. It's up to the umps to be able to take some frustration from the players - they invest everything in these games. Those were not offensive outbursts. They were very minor. Very little was said. Let it go.

  6. I would simply argue: Rough time for Biloxi in 2022. It hasn't really mattered who has been down yonder as several young men have had spurts of excellence. It's a hexed 2022 season for the young men in Biloxi. The proverbial seesaw is alive and well. They had that epic start to the season. That quickly ended. They then got a good, what, 4 games over 0.500 mid-season? Then went right back to 4-6 games under - that was with all the big guns on the roster. Let's just get this one over with?

  8. I see you, Garrett Whitley. Way to lead this young Shuckers squad. Show the team how it's done:
  9. Heck of a pitching performance today for the combined output of RHP's Logan Henderson and Fernando Olguin (much needed for Olguin's confidence. Well done!): Henderson: 3 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 0 R, 6 K Olguin: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 6 K Mudcats win 6-0 and split the series 3-3. They ride the fine performances of Jace Avina (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 1 R, 1 K, 1 HR) and Edquarqui Fernandez (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 HR). With Fredericksburg leading Delmarva 9-1 late, it would appear the Mudcats will remain 5 1/2 games back (?) in the second half playoff push. I continue to love the raw tools of Avina at the dish. For such a young man (he turned 19 on June 3rd), he has that 'you can't teach that' raw power tool. Watch him just golf out this HR off the top of the high wall in LF. There's so much to speculate about in his development:
  10. On the other side of the spectrum in Biloxi, it's time to remind us once again how absolutely fantastic Cam Devanney has been in 2022. I love this young man's game. I find him consistently undervalued amongst Brewers analysts and fans: I very much see a path for Devanney to make it and stick at the MLB level - if not with the Brewers, somewhere. He's on the doorstep. He just needs to continue working and carving out the path he is currently on. 2022 has been a huge step in the right direction. I see a legitimate athlete, defender, and power bat to play meaningful MLB games. He'll turn 26 in April. He's approaching the best years of his baseball life and I believe he is just scratching that surface. We're lucky to have the 2019 15th round pick in the organization.
  11. Wow. I'm happy for Nash Walters to go to an organization where he has a decent chance. It's really great he turned his season around and is carving a path for himself. Best of luck, young man!
  12. Man, it's hard to fathom the lack of production we've seen from INF Gabe Holt this season. When you look at the arbitrary categorizing of seasons and see a title like "Scratch that one" or "Seasons we can toss in the trash bin", Gabe will want to do that for 2022. His OPS in now 0.500 at 0.507. With a BA at 0.205, and a fascinating 20 BB to just 23 K in 264 AB's, one might gather his 0.222 BABIP is majorly factoring into the equation here. BUT, I can tell you having watched so many of games from this frustrating 2022 Shuckers season he's also not making good contact on a regular basis. Given the amount of young talent in the middle infield pipeline, he's making it very hard on himself moving forward. Let's hope he can close the season, in the very least, on a higher note.
  13. The biggest thing I see from him when he pitches is his competitive fire. He is a total gamer. He walks guys because he doesn’t give in. He’s also an incredible athlete so he’s a defensive presence on the mound. He doesn’t have the pure stuff of a healthy and dialed Jake Cousins, but when are we going to see that with any consistency? I’ve seen it once ? I’d say he’s a decent option for a call-up given his output this season but I like Strzelecki’s raw stuff more. And, the staff seems to really like Trevor Kelley (who has been phenomenal in Nashville).
  14. After tonight’s performance, he may have solidified that case entirely. It’s been an incredible year for the young man. I’m pretty dang partial to his 125:37 K:BB ratio. BUT, how about turning it up a notch with a promotion?! Incredible stuff.
  15. Tyler Herb might be going for his 2nd CG in the past month here. He’s made it through 8 IP and 95 pitches. 4-1 Sounds
  16. LOL. I had a whole post cued up but I deleted it due to how I absolutely sabotaged Figueroa’s outing. Rodriguez had had an absolutely unreal good season.
  17. Here is my answer (and I didn’t see your question): I don’t know. But I will say: he was only promoted to Carolina the first week of August. And, he’s just 18 years old. Currently they are prioritizing drafted bats and bats with a bit more pop. Also, remember; The organization and the coaches and the player(s) are always working with more information, conversations, and decision-makers. We might think something makes sense on paper or even via viewing(s) but we just don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes.
  18. RHP Jeferson Figueroa really struggled to find consistency as a starter. BUT, he absolutely has ‘stuff’ - I spoke to it in a summer report not long ago. Maybe we’re finding something late in the season as a piggyback long-reliever? This is his second consecutive Garabitos-esque ‘take the ball and run’ long relief outing. His first effort (8/27): 4 2/3 IP, 3 H, 1 HB, 0 BB, 8K, 1 ER. Tonight’s output (so far - Bottom 7th…Mudcats lead 5-0): 3 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 5 K. This is extremely promising. I’m really happy for him. The K:BB numbers have progressed favorably all season. His change-up is pretty nasty. It’s super-promising his best stuff is coming late in the season. ** Sheeesh did I throw out the Jinx gauntlet! ?
  19. Cameron Wagoner through 4 IP: 56 total pitches 42 strikes ?
  20. I am here for the Branlyn Jaraba late season breakout party. Luis Castillo swingin’ a better bat of late too. Let’s go Mudcats!
  21. Some enticing Starters taking the mound across all levels: RHP Cameron Wagoner takes his craft for his second start in Zebulon...here's a refresher from his first outing. A Reminder: Carolina will play an early afternoon tilt - 3 CST for you Midwestern folks... RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez brings his savvy savvy stuff back to the hill for Wisconsin as they look to continue a really nice series in Beloit. RHP Justin Jarvis takes the mound for the Shuckers in Rocket City. It's been a tough road series at a place that has been tough for most teams in 2022. Can Jarvis cut down on the base runners and walks in his second outing? His first was a successful outing, all things considered, but he had quite a bit of danger on the basepaths. He won't get away with that at the Trash Panda's ballpark. RHP Tyler Herb. What more can I say? I've loved this young man's game all season long. After a brief spell where he self-admittedly was not pitching his best stuff and attacking hitters, he's back to doing vintage 2022 Tyler Herb things for the Nashville pitching staff. What has he done in August for the playoff-pushing Sounds? 3 GS, 4 G, 19 IP, 1 CG, 1 SHO, 15 H, 2 BB, 22 K, 3 ER, 0.217 BA, 0.89 WHIP, 1.42 ERA. I absolutely love it.
  22. Speaking of those young recent promoted righty hurlers in Rodriguez, Cornielle, and Cruz...here's a look at Cruz's stuff in Wisco. Notice pitch 1: a tailing change-up. He can pull this out versus lefty bats. I've seen it on more than one occasion and it produces many a swing and a whiff. You'll see a version of his curve in here as well - he has two versions, it would appear, a heavier faster curve and he can also plop in 67-68 mph raindrops. He's quite fun to watch (first 18 seconds of this highlight clip...I won't begrudge you if you watch Gasser's Double-A highlights either)

  24. Hell of a bounce back inning for Cam Robinson in a tight spot (Sounds leading 6-5 headed to the ninth inning) who gives up a hit but strikes out 2 and puts up a scoreless frame. This Nashville/Columbus divisional race is looking like it could come down to the wire. If the Sounds relievers can put up another scoreless frame that’ll be back to a 3.5 game lead (Columbus lost to the Cubbies at home for the second time this week). Sounds would move to a Dodger-like 28 games over .500.
  25. That’s a really interesting proposition and the Southern League is a really hard place to pitch. We’ll have to wait and see but if they did, I’d imagine they’d go in the order they were promoted?
