  1. One thing I like about Rodriguez is, like Dylan File and Brandon Knarr, he works with quick flow and purpose. All three of these young men have caught my eye this season as classifying in the Raptorverse of speed to delivery on the mound. Carlos is extremely well-built and has the strength to deliver consistently and with power. He has some tailing movement on his heater so he can get it by batters - I would gather to say he has above-average spin rate. He has a similar build as Victor Castañeda so he has that squat thick lower-body look on the mound (their deliveries, however, are quite different). His stuff is more 'electric' - ie more velocity and violence - than Puello or earlier elevated Ryne Moore (who both rely on unorthodox arm slots and sweeping hooking pitches in attempts to win at bats) in my humble opinion. I'd say he has a legitimate chance to step into the Wisconsin rotation and claim #2 status right away and as he grows maybe usurp Justin Jarvis for that role - a big ask. Naturally, the results will have to appear and this is simply a prognostication and nothing more.
  2. AND, we have a flurry of moves all at once: LHP Karlos Morales was assigned to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers from the Carolina Mudcats (Congrats, Karlos!) RHP's Aidan Maldonado (2022 14th Rd pick) and Jacob Misiorowski (2022 2nd Rd pick) were both assigned to the ACL Brewers Gold LHP's Brian Fitzpatrick (2022 10th Rd pick) and Nate Peterson (2022 8th Rd pick) and RHP Will Rudy (2022 5th Rd pick) were all assigned to the ACL Brewers Blue
  3. I'll raise your Juan Rosa one, C Estefano Lozano - the 18-year-old 6'0" righty was just assigned to the DSL Brewers 2.
  4. After being HBP twice yesterday and leaving the game early, there is no Yeison Perez in the DSL Brewers 2 line-up. Let’s hope this is just a rest up and recover and not an IL stint! I need my DSL XBH fix!
  5. He most certainly will (as Jim points out). Regardless, he fortifies Biloxi’s outfield as they make a possible push. And he makes a case for himself across the Minor Leagues. He is still such an easy young man to root for - very humble, positive, and he works extremely hard. I wish him the absolute best. Who knows, maybe he stays in the Brewers system. Probably not likely but stranger things have happened.
  6. Luis Lara Has now been caught stealing 7 times? Huh. Jhonny Severino with two consecutive games showing clean fielding sheets - something to celebrate! Let’s keep that going, baby. DSL Brewers Uno pick up a nice victory led by three valiant pitching efforts. They move to 19-30.
  7. What a fantastic day and evening of Brewers Minor League baseball. My tip of the cap goes out to all the bullpens holding down the fort and ensuring victories. Let’s keep it going tomorrow!
  8. Yup. I should have kept my mouth shut, apparently. It feels like he and Nick Bennett are so close to closing out on dominant streaks but they are losing it here and there for brief moments. It's a bummer. 6-5 precarious lead now.
  9. And Zavi Warren hit a rope to the 385' part of deeeeeep left center but Cubbies' CF Crow-Armstrong is a really good OF'er and quite fast and ran it down about a foot from the deep wall. Would have cleared those bases. Zavi is on some kind of tear right now.
  10. Garrett Whitley follows Ray with a solo shot himself over the wall in left center. That's 2 HR in two games for Whitley. Let's go, Shuckers. 6-1 bottom of the fourth.
  11. It was a pro AB, for sure. Got caught chasing a high heater...just lost the check swing. He missed on oppo blast to the wall or over by about 10' the pitch prior.
  12. Well, shucks...I guess Corey Ray was listening. ? He just launched a two-run BOMB over the wall in RF. 100 mph or so off the bat on a hanging breaking ball. Glorious work from Ray since being re-assigned. This is fantastic for Corey and the Brewers system. Keep it going, young man! (3-for-3 tonight - 1 2B, 1 HR (2-run variety), 1 1B...you know what I'm thinking. It's right there for the speedy CF) And. the clip is now posted:
  13. Speaking of Biloxi, RHP TJ Shook is starting to get quite a bit more comfortable. He's into the fifth inning tonight having allowed a single run. He's stacking good outings - you love to see it. Hopefully he can get into the 6th or 7th inning tonight.
  14. I will say, it's been really refreshing to see a healthy Corey Ray continuing where he left-off when the Brewers designated him off the 40-Man. He's 2-for-2 tonight and is continuing to hit well in Biloxi. Monasterio seems to have a new running mate.
  15. Wiemer will be back in the line-up tomorrow night - they stuck with Tuesday's schedoodle. FWIW. But, yeah, I hear you...lotta tough injuries to the OF.
  16. June he was pressing and simply had a rough month. July and into August is more like April and May where he looked so much improved at the plate. He's at his best with that smooth, calm, contact swing. The results speak for themselves.
  17. LOL. And, welp, Brice Turang says: "Ummmm, yeah, hold the phone!" Smacks his 8th homer of the year and just like that is 2-1 Sounds. Yeah baby! This is FUN. And, here's the highlight for y'all. Hitting streak extended to 17 games (!!). On base streak to 24 (!!). And, man, what a wonderfully easy swing on a sweeping lefty off-speed pitch:
  18. AND, welp. Sal Frelick says: "Hey, I know we were postponed yesterday but sheesh I'm pretty dang good!" He leads off the game for the Sounds with a triple. Man that young man has wheels. Here's that patented Frelick hip flip he's just fine-tuned in 2022. Man, he hits a sweet line drive:
  19. 1B/DH Jesus Chirinos has absolutely come on since his birthday home run party. He's been on a tear of late and it's fantastic to see for the big fella! 2 Doubles today and he just knocked in Robert Moore and sent Eric Brown Jr. to 3rd.
  20. The case can most certainly be made. The bat is the bonus here - we'll have to see how he does in his step-up in competition. The defense and the ability to work with his pitchers is a given - it's truly elite. He has an absolute cannon for an arm and he's extremely quick laterally and off his feet. In the post-game pod with Joe Ayrault last night he was quite clear: he hadn't seen a catching propsect like Quero is quite some time and he referred to him as one of the organization's top dogs.
  21. For anyone interested here's the current DSL Catching Lines: DSL Brewers 2: Eric Martinez - R/R 6'0" / 175 / 18 yo - 88 AB / 0.295 BA / 0.845 OPS / 2 HR / 13 RBI / 17 R / 7 2B / 1 3B/ 8 BB / 24 K / 53 SB / 10 CS Brayan Oropeza - R/R 6'1" / 175 / 18 yo - 69 AB / 0.217 BA / 0.745 OPS / 3 HR / 12 RBI / 12 R / 2 2B / 13 BB / 17 K / 21 SB / 8 CS Edwin Tamoy - R/R 6'0" 170 / 17 yo - 38 AB / 0.211 BA / 0.541 OPS / 1 HR / 2 RBI / 6 R / 1 2B / 2 BB / 9 K / 20 SB / CS 14 Interesting Note: Whereas Martinez is getting the majority of PT, it is worth noting the Oropeza BB:K ratio just as it is noting Tamoy has thrown out 14 of 34 SB attempts. That is a significant number in both cases. DSL Brewers 1: Ludwin Tejada - L/R (B/T) 5'10" / 175 / 17 yo - 49 AB / 0.306 / 0.771 OPS / 0 HR / 6 RBI / 7 R / 1 2B / 1 3B / 7 K / 8 BB / 22 SB / 7 CS Roman La Torre - L/R 5'10" / 160 / 17 yo - 58 AB / 0.224 / 0.628 OPS / 0 HR / 7 RBI / 7 R / 5 2B / 7 BB / 9 K / 32 SB / 7 CS Edgardo Ordonez - L/R 5'11" / 155 / 18 yo - 82 AB / 0.293 / 0.825 OPS / 2 HR / 13 RBI / 15 R / 4 2B / 16 BB / 26 K / 29 SB / 17 CS Interesting Note: ALL lefty bats is something we mentioned earlier in the DSL season. Ordonez is getting the majority of the first team innings here and has solid numbers across the board. But, the K:BB ratios of the younger Tejada and La Torre are quite interesting. The lone righty bat is on the 60-Day IL in one 17-year-old, Luis Garcia fwiw.
  22. By every measure we have, Joe is just a very good human. Every interview he's done, he's been extremely personable and relatable to us 'common folk'. There was a great anecdote when the Rattlers first traveled to Quad Cities earlier in the year and the River Bandits announcer was saying how when the T-Rats first got to the ballpark he saw Joe Gray Jr. slip out the back gate and head down the river with his fishing pole. He took off his shoes. Stood on the banks. And started casting. THAT'S an athlete I can relate to. Baseball-wise, he has all the physical tools you could ask for in an outfielder - size, strength, speed, fluidity. He's an insanely gifted athlete. His issue has simply been consistency at the plate. He tends to get fooled by breaking balls (as a lot of young players do). Either way, he has the goods if he can put it all together. Some players simply take more time but he's simply a very easy young man to root for. The Chourio goods definitely all came late and, man, he almost single-handedly won them the game in the ninth. He got to third base all alone through patience and will-power, really. They just couldn't bring him across home plate. As a side note: I live in Minneapolis/St. Paul for 10 years (1998-2008) and even bought a house in St. Paul with my parents that we've since sold. I have many many formative memories of my time in the Twin Cities.
  23. I personally have very little emotional reaction to this trade as a fan of baseball but I completely understand negative reactions to the trade. From my vantage point, it simply comes down to: the trade happened and a Hader trade had been rumored or discussed for several years. Were mistakes made? I have no idea - it's simply much much too early to tell. Was the timing good? Probably not. I think @Tim Mumaspoke effectively to the possible emotional impact on the ball club in his News piece today. I consider it comparable to what happened in Seattle last year when they traded beloved teammate and high-leverage reliever, Kendall Graveman. That clubhouse was an emotional wreck and the 2021 Mariners team scuffled in the immediate aftermath but then recovered quite well as they fought for the Playoffs. As of now, I can simply share: I was highly impressed by Gasser's first Double-A start. He has a ridiculous baseline to work with a really really nice four pitch Starter with possibly five depending upon how he grows and matures. The interviews I've seen match what I saw (albeit, yes, one start) on the mound. He understands the AB and clearly has a plan. He drops speeds to 75-76 and elevates up to 95-96. His slider easily drops a foot and horizontally probably moves more. I'm quite excited about his upside and potential. I was also quite impressed with Ruiz's first start and the initial plate approach I witnessed. Since that time, I would say it's been up and down and, honestly, not all that much of note. Of the two prospects, I'm personally much more enamored with having Gasser as a possible future Ace. And, just like judging the trade, it's much too early to tell. I obviously hope it works out for the Brewers in both counts - and, I wouldn't be surprised if for whatever reason(s) it didn't work out. Projecting these things is just a very difficult thing to do. I will say, with the uncertainty of Garrett Mitchell's injuries (though, he's been fantastic since his IL return) and Joey Wiemer's seemingly ongoing hand issues (conjecture - not confirmed) adding another prospect into that pool makes sense from a roster-building vantage point. I wish Josh all the best of success in San Diego. And, I hope the Brewers also benefit. My meaningless two cents.
