  1. The Catchers in Biloxi are really surprising through nine games. Jakson Reetz with the winner winner chicken dinner tonight at the Plate with 2 long balls, 5 rbi's, and a walk going 3 of 3 officially. You love to see it as he and Diaz have both been very very solid behind the plate as well.
  2. Nice second outing for the young hurler! You love to see it. He really struggled to find the zone in his first outing. How did he look today? I've had a super busy Easter weekend with the in-laws in town. Excited to read last night's minor league news. Happy Easter to you two! Peeks at Box: Maybe a little overzealous there Señor Muchacho. Simmer down! A near 2 WHIP seems awfully reminiscent of outing 1. But, more importantly, the Mudcats pull out the victory and Eduardo goes 4 of 5. Love that young man's baseball skill set.
  3. If I'm not mistaken, and I certainly could be as my memory gets foggier every season, Devin has oft struggled in the early going. I am unsure if he has struggled like this, but, as you point out: this is an extremely small 'sample' size. I would gather, Counsell isn't concerned...yet.

  5. Hey, we pulled one out despite Devin Williams' early season struggles. Happy Easter everyone!
  6. Agreed on the qb's. It seems Willis and Pickett are locks and then there's a whole lot of mystery. The general consensus I've seen is maybe Willis would have fit into the tail end of last year's Top 5 qb's overall. Not really a good year to need a QB. I think what's even more interesting is Ridder's late ascent. A lot of teams apparently have him graded out as a Rd. 1 prospect this year. I sure hope he sneaks in there before 28.
  7. Ben Fennel and Brian Baldinger, respectively, have me feeling pretty rosy on Alec Pierce as a serious candidate for a Packer draft pick. It seems he's been routinely discussed as an early to mid Day 2 pick in the draft process from my limited exposure. Anyone else have any thoughts here?
  8. That season definitely further entrenched me in the Brewer dugout of fandom. I have extremely fond memories listening to radio calls of Deer monster shots while heading to my grandma's house in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin during that season. Ahhhhh, nothing like baseball nostalgia on an Easter Sunday morning.

  10. Thanks for the report @damuelle. What a frustrating night for the Sounds. You have to think White was sent on that fly ball thinking: "Hey, we might not get another chance to even attempt a plate crossing given the way this night has gone." A truly unfortunate evening. Let's see if Wisconsin and Biloxi can keep it churning.

  12. How about LA Tech’s Brent Diaz homering in back-to-back games including this Grand Salami tonight to open the lead to 6-0: He finishes the evening 3 of 4 with 2 runs and all 4 RBI’s in this blast. Well done, Brent! Stay hot!
  13. A tip of the cap is in order for TJ Shook’s 5 innings of shutout relief for the Timber Rattlers featuring 10 k’s - a career high! At one point, he had retired 5 in a row to strikeout in a stretch spanning the 6th-8th innings, helping the Wisconsin lads pull out a 2-0 victory. Darrien Miller stays hot in the meaningful hits department knocking in Joe Gray, who had walked to open the 9th and then stolen 2nd and advanced to 3rd on a fly out to right. Huge insurance run to allow TJ a wee bit more room to seal the deal. Max Lazar, it is worth noting, started the game and went 4 scoreless with 4 k’s. This is the Timber Rattlers’ best start to a season since 2005. Quite impressive.
  14. I think it is fair to say this is not how Jakob Brustoski envisioned his Low-A career beginning. After scuffling badly in his first outing with several walks, and allowing runs in both outings to date, here is his line tonight: 0 ip 2 hits 5 bb 1 HR and 6 earned runs He has his work cut out for him, given what I’ve seen early. I wish him the best and a speedy turnaround to better days on the mound ahead.
  15. Carolina appears to have given up two touchdowns. Well that’s a darn shame. The Timber Rattlers strike again and Biloxi moves to 7-0 (!!) as Tyler Herb fills in admirably in the spot start going 4 and allowing one earned. Diaz stays ripping hot as well in the DH spot. Nashville loses a nail biter 2-1.
  16. And, here I thought I had gotten Europe's THE FINAL COUNTDOWN out of sight and out of mind for the week. My wife is going to suffer, yet again. We have a running joke as I often have that cued on my IPhone in my bathrobe pocket when I descend the stairs to make coffee. Heads will be shaking again tomorrow morning...?

  18. I think, for clarity's sake, it's important to note: he is in favor of the pitch clock they had and have been using. He is simply not into this limitations on step-offs and 14 second mandate. This is what I was speaking to. And, I think it's what you are speaking to?
  19. Just to offer this to the pitch clock advocates: I recommend listening to Manager Rick Sweet (Nashville Sounds affiliate), who is an awesome interview and just an awesome baseball man in general, to get a listen-in on a career baseball guy discussing the pitch clock. I want to echo his sentiments: I don't like it. And, Rick really doesn't like it. (go to the 4:19 mark for the direct discussion): Link to Discussion Here I tend to stand on the other side of the fence, actually, when it comes to changing the game and perhaps that's because I'm a Luddite or just a hillbilly ?. I enjoy the chess-component. I enjoy giving the pitchers and batters a chance to get their minds right and their feel right. I, for one, want them to feel comfortable before they attempt to perform the toughest aspect in all of professional sports. Just my two cents. And, I realize in a fast-paced and further automated world, this is a very Low-A opinion. I'm OK with that.
  20. I absolutely remember that commercial. Back when commercials could make you laugh. It also brought me into random Monty Python as, in my mind, the Warning Track would now be a castle wall. The bullpen gents running through the portcullis. A true 'Renaissance', as it were.?
  21. Oh man, this one got coffee on my keyboard. Well played.
  22. Thanks for the shout outs, Jim. You set the bar extremely high over the many many years - I, personally, guiltily devoured your reports hoping one day I could pay it forward. I've actually been, for whatever inexplicable and unnecessarily lofty reason, thinking of this quote by Thoreau (after all, you reside in the great Northeast): There's a lot of directions that quote takes me - the air is swirling in my mountain valley as per usual. The lower levels coverage is obviously a labor of love for all of us. And, that, in my humble opinion is what baseball 'should' be at its core: a labor of love. It looks like we have an incredibly interesting minor league season ahead. Here's hoping this fantastic early start has legs and doesn't fade into the wistful thoughts of: "Remember that incredible first week of organizational action?".
  23. @damuelle: with output like this, you might start getting serious looks for the call up to the ‘Big Club’. Great job! I felt like I was in attendance.
