  1. Yeah, this is the kind of deal you make when you're playing with silly money.
  2. Yeah, I wonder what their plan is for the Brewers. It will be REALLY disappointing if they don’t have a dedicated Brewers writer by the time pitchers and catchers report.

  6. I just found this photo of Sheffield from the 1980 little league World Series and had to share it.

  8. I’m all on board with that contract but don’t know if it’s financially viable for the Brewers unless they bump payroll considerably. Yelich’s deal is really becoming an albatross for the franchise (not knocking Yelich in any way but that’s the reality of the situation).
  9. Out of curiosity, why Urshela? I view Wong and Urshela as very similar players making very similar money.
  10. I don't see him getting a third year, especially in the same breath as deGrom only getting two. Even if you believe Verlander will get a third year, those two contracts don't make a lot of sense alongside one another.
  11. I’m sure there are loads of former front office execs I’d love to hear talk about baseball. As it turns out, Jim Bowden ain’t one of them, yet he’s the one with the job.

  13. That deGrom contract is interesting. The Verlander one is pretty LOL both in dollars and length. That Senga does seem pretty high, especially at those few years. And yeah, that Diaz number is less than what Liam Hendriks got. How does Bowden even have a job at The Athletic? Honest question.

  15. We have a lot more coming down the pipeline, too! This coming week is a three-parter with Brandon Knarr.
  16. Mike Trout is also a fine comp. But realize Buxton was “healthy” for exactly zero games this season and posted an fWAR of 4.0 in 92 games while DHing every third day because he could barely walk. As someone who has watched Buxton a lot, he’s prime Trout-level good when he’s healthy, he’s just never healthy. Anyway, we’re kinda derailing here. We disagree on this and that’s fine. Let’s move on to how else you’re wrong instead of containing this derailment. ?

  18. I think a good comp to this conservation is Byron Buxton. When he’s on the field and healthy, he’s probably the best CF in baseball. The problem is he’s on the field healthy so rarely that no one can really call him that. The same applies to the past two seasons of deGrom and he’s not getting younger.

  20. deGrom is amazing, no doubt about it. But I just cannot ignore his health issues. Anyone who throws that hard is really concerning as they age into their 30s. I would be terrified to sign deGrom to a long term deal.
