  1. Hey, I flipped this over to the FA rumors section. In the future, please use that tool to post rumors of this kind. It REALLY helps the site because the FA section is much more google-friendly and set up to be promoted on social media (and it posts to this forum so from a user aspect, there's no real change to its appearance). Thanks!
  2. Just wanted to say that I *really* like this piece and well done, DuWayne.
  3. While I'm not a huge fan of the trade for a few reasons, on paper it makes some sense. The Brewers gave up Wong, who is coming off a career high offensive season. In return, they received Jesse Winker, who is coming off a career low offensive season (largely due to injuries and possibly a bad home park). It's a classic buy low situation. And on top of that, they also brought in Toro, a cheap utility option with some upside.
  4. To appease some users who don't like articles clogging up the Brewers forum, I've begun automatically sending videos to this forum so the primary forum doesn't populate as many article/video threads.
  5. The mind boggles at the numbers we're seeing right now. Hunter Renfroe is potentially a nine figure contract guy. What world are we living in right now? It's just staggering.
  6. I agree, I'm not that high on Swanson but someone out there is going to buy into his 2020 and 2022 seasons and give him a contract I would not personally give.
  7. Given how this offseason is going, I think that 6/$150m number for Swanson is going to be way low. At this point, I'm fully expecting him to get something in the $200m range.
  8. I hadn't considered this. What an interesting idea. I'm sure some team will try this, I'm really interested to see how it pans out.
  9. The biggest problem (the way I see it) is television revenue. When the Brewers are drawing $40m a year from their TV contract while the Dodgers are drawing $250m, baseball is just going to be broken. And a salary cap doesn't really fix that on its own. I cannot see a situation where owners agree to this but TV revenue must be shared, just as teams share gate revenue. And at that point, you can probably get the MLBPA to agree to both a salary cap and floor. The union isn't necessarily against a salary cap, they're against a salary cap that allows owners to pocket more and more money. If you find a balance point where the floor and cap are tied to league revenue, the union likely agrees to it. And the way I see it, that basically fixes 75% of baseball's problems in one fell swoop.
  10. Like the article points out, any move individually makes sense. But when combined, they're not exactly compelling. One thing that chaps me about the moves is that every MLB team received a $30m payout this offseason as Disney completed the BAMTech buyout. The Brewers could have easily invested that money into Wong and Renfroe while also patching up their roster. Both players are on expiring deals that come well under the one-time $30m revenue addition. With all of that said, it's still only December 9th. There's a lot of offseason left and I will reserve final judgment until we're well into Spring Training.
  11. What I wonder about is if the Brewers just go for a rehab project like Sanchez instead of a real solution. And maybe that's fine if they find real solutions at other positions but right now, the market is thinning in a big way for impact players. This offseason is crystalizing in a much more rapid way than it has in the past... half decade? Longer.

  13. This is really interesting info, thanks. The Twins have actually made an offer to Vazquez but if playing time is a consideration, cross them off the list. I can't see them giving Vazquez 110 games and relegating Jeffers to 50 games. Maybe the Twins try to trade Jeffers but that's also unlikely. I'd chalk the Twins up as one less Vazquez suitor.
  14. Curt Hogg reported that GM Matt Arnold has stated the Brewers want to improve at catcher. Given the status of their catching corps, this seems rather obvious but the interesting tidbit is that Arnold, when questioned, was cagey about whether the Brewers would pursue a free agent catcher - with Vazquez being the best remaining option while other guys like Gary Sanchez also remain available - or whether they'll pursue a trade at the cost of prospects. What makes the most sense to you? Free agency or give up prospects and save some money? View full rumor

  16. I've heard this mentioned by baseball analysts quite a bit lately: "grew up in a northern state, relatively raw baseball skills" and that sort of thing. Is it a new angle? Dunno, maybe. It definitely depends on the player. A lot of these young guys are so high profile that they spend a lot of time with touring teams in warmer climates whenever possible.
  17. Just noticed something cool... Brewer Fanatic is now operating at about the same numbers BrewerFan was in 2019. That's a *huge* step up from the past 2+ years.

  18. Oh hey, I had no idea he's Louie's brother. That's cool! I really wish the Brewers weren't in the mix to be picking up Rule 5 guys this offseason but I guess that's the reality of baseball financials.
  19. This is my understanding as well. It's pretty complicated but makes some sense to me. The lottery is only 1-6, though teams 7-18 can break into the top six, as the Twins did this year. The one thing I don't fully understand is are the Twins considered a "lottery team" because they broke into the top six this year, despite having the 13th best record? Does this count against one of their three consecutive lottery picks?
  20. In the wake of the Hader deal, I suspect they've at least re-evaluated the importance of not pissing off the clubhouse.
  21. Our friends at FOCO are back again with a new collection of bobbleheads, but this time with a few twists. Their brand-new Holiday Bobble Bros collection is in stock and ready to ship ahead of the holidays. Unlike most of FOCO's bobbleheads, these are not limited and retail at a much lower price for just $30. This makes them the perfect stocking stuffer and a great addition to any Brewers fan’s home. The collection features team mascots wearing reindeer themed hats. They are also sporting a scarf with a baseball and bat in hand. The Bernie Brewer version is in a seated position and is wearing his team jersey. If you are familiar with some of FOCO's other bobbleheads, you will quickly notice that these don’t have a base, making these really stand out from the rest of their offering. Like all FOCO bobbleheads, each one is handcrafted and hand-painted so no two are exactly the same. As mentioned before, these are not limited and are in stock ready to ship now. They stand at just 4in tall so they should fit in any spot you’d want to display them. Don’t wait to pick up the Milwaukee Brewers Bobble Bro Mascot Bobblehead for yourself or as gift for the upcoming holidays! Disclaimer: Brewer Fanatic does not earn money from any purchases from FOCO but we do receive gifts, all of which we give away to our users. So please consider making FOCO a gift choice for the Brewers fan in your life!
  22. In part two of this retrospective of the 1979 Milwaukee Brewers’ season narrated by the legendary Bob Uecker, they discuss the 1979 Brewers' defense, an on-field fight with the Yankees that injured pitcher Mike Caldwell, and the Brewers ultimate fall out of contention with the expectation they could be pennant winners in the near future... which came true three seasons later.

  24. You really don't want Luis Arraez at third base. His arm is not good enough for the hot corner.
  25. Oh, I just mean that's a lot of talent moving between two teams. I don't even know how to start unpacking the potential value for each team. It's a lot to sort out.
