  1. Unsurprisingly, Tyler Anderson has regressed in the early going after moving from the Dodgers to the Angels. He's up against Brewers ace, Wade Miley. The Angels actually have a chance to be respectable this season after picking up a bunch of depth pieces to go along with Trout and Ohtani. But they suffered a big blow to that when young catcher Logan O'Hoppe went down a few days ago. If you're in the MKE area, I recommend getting down to AmFam just to watch Ohtani. He's worth the price of admission by himself and it's not as if the Angels come 'round these parts often.
  2. For sure. I think it’s incredibly unlikely Adames literally doubles his walk rate year over year but my biggest knock against him has been the fear of what happens to a free-swinging highly-athletic player once they lose half a step and the bat slows a little.
  3. Thumbs and wrists are unpredictable. I'm reluctant to say it's unlikely Frelick will be called up but it's certainly a possibility. Some guys bounce right back, others take time to get back to full speed. Thumb injuries aren't as scary as wrist injuries but they're not good, either.
  4. If Adames benefits from the shift restrictions a little while also keeping his BB% over 10%, it completely changes his profile as a player. It could take him from "good player but with serious question marks on the aging curve" to "legitimate top-five SS in baseball".
  5. This is my thinking as well. He’s going to need some time to get up to game speed. Two weeks at the very least, I’d think.
  6. Ah, good catch. Without looking, I assumed the Angels have a travel day tomorrow.
  7. I'm long past the point of getting upset over regular season games. I used to do it and wow did it impact my mental health and general well-being. It's also part of the reason why I'm less Twins-centric than I have been at times. If I'm not enjoying baseball, I shouldn't be watching it. So I got a laugh out of watching the Twins go all Yakkity Sax on the field and then went home. In the end, they won the season series against the Yankees and it's just one game.
  8. Woof, Friday's game might be a rough one. It appears Ohtani has not pitched since the 21st so he's likely the starter.
  9. I was at that game! It was terrible so I left!
  10. And he did it against a change-up. Maybe not quite as impressive as a breaking ball but good to see he did that against something off-speed.
  11. I tend to not get that worked up about a single game. But frequent mis-use of a player gets on my nerves, like the way Hiura was constantly being used last year. And when it comes to pulling, not pulling, or putting in a pitcher, the error has to be egregious for me to get mad about it... and while that happens, it's pretty infrequent.
  12. Literally every game thread ever after lineups are announced and/or a pitcher is pulled. Also if a pitcher is not pulled.
  13. That's a great point. I thought Mexico City was similar to Denver, not a couple of thousand feet higher. That's a problem.
  14. I’m not pointing you but illustrating my core point: Mexico City is not that far from any MLB city but it’s not close to any MLB city. Thats a problem over 162 but mainly for the host city’s players.
  15. They’re seriously considering SLC as an expansion team so that’s not really true. If anything, more high elevation teams existing is good for the sport, it allows for more exploration of the effects and how to manage it.
  16. The biggest problem with Mexico City is and will always be travel distance. Even Los Angeles is a significant flight away. The only city within what I'd frame as a reasonable distance is Houston. No city is ten hours away from Mexico City but even their division rivals would face significant flights and the burden on the Mexico City players would be brutal over 162. Attendance and TV rights would be lower revenue per person but Mexico has 120,000,000 people. The team would capture all of that. It's nearly quadruple the population of Canada. The phrase of the day is "make it up in volume" when it comes to a Mexican MLB team. And given the resounding success of Mexico in the WBC and the fact Mexico already has a strong baseball following, it's a market just waiting to be tapped by MLB. But then there's the travel issue.
  17. And we need to get over the American interpretation that Mexico is a Mad Max hellscape. It's wrong that Europeans think that about America and wrong that America thinks that about Latin America. Are there dangerous parts of Mexico? Of course. But there are also loads of really nice parts with quite a bit of wealth.
  18. I wonder how close MLB is to being at the end of the leash of extorting existing cities for stadium deals. Most of the stadiums are 25 years old or less and I think there's going to be increasing hostility toward post-Camden teams asking for new stadiums. And I suspect teams like the Jays will just get new stadiums when they're ready to do so, it's not as if MLB is going to take a team out of Toronto. Most of the truly old stadiums are local treasures: Wrigley, Fenway, Dodger Stadium... maybe the Angels ask for a new stadium relatively soon but locals seem to really like that place, even though I despise it (the Angels were my local team for eight years or so). I suspect we'll start seeing a lot more requests for assistance with refurbishment and a lot fewer requests for new stadiums. I still can't believe Atlanta allowed the Braves to pull the crap they did.
  19. Woof. The Crew badly needs a good start from Lauer. The Tigers are literally the worst offensive team in baseball (one might even say they're offensive) with only 64 runs scored. There's no excuse to be losing against this team two nights in a row.
  20. CHS Field where the Saints play didn't meet the qualifications for a AAA stadium. It was pretty new but needed more seating, I believe. That didn't seem to be a problem, as the Twins and Saints agreed to expand the stadium but I'm pretty sure for the first year or two, it technically didn't meet the standards of a AAA stadium. The Brewers could easily do the same thing in Biloxi.
  21. The Tigers are a really really bad baseball team but somehow the Pittsburgh Pirates are not only in first place over the Brewers, but have the best record in the National League. lol baseball is stupid Anyway, The NL Central appears to have the best overall record in the NL at a glance. Just as we all predicted, right? lol baseball is stupid Take at least two out of three from the hapless Tigers, have a few laughs at Javy's expense, and let's get back into first.
  22. The Brewers have the best record in the National League, are 7-3 in the their last ten, and try to win a series against the Red Sox today with Corbin Burnes on the mound.
  23. No, the Braves would have changed their name with the move to Milwaukee, and those records would stay with Milwaukee. Maybe the Brewers name would have come back 15-20 years earlier had that been the case.
