  1. I think Abreu makes a fair amount of sense provided you can get him for two years. I'd be really concerned about adding a third year that takes him so close to 40 years old.

  3. These rumors are slightly more informed than guesses at this point, I believe. The teams probably don't even know what they're going to do on November 11th. Rosenthal and Passan are my two go-to names and the fact that they're reporting opposite things is rather funny. But still, it's interesting to read what the national guys are hearing within their circles, even if the information conflicts.

  5. Jeff Passan of ESPN believes it's more likely the Brewers and Arnold will try to build around Burnes and Woodruff than trade one of their two top-of-the-rotation starters. While this doesn't mean anything is set in stone, Passan usually has pretty good takes and is known to be pretty tightly-knit with various front offices and agents around the league. If this is truly the case, it's hard to see the Brewers build a roster around them for $135m given their current roster commitments and pending commitments. This means the Brewers either need to raise payroll or they need to get creative in trade. They certainly have some nice pieces on the farm to acquire good, young talent but it's hard to see them trade too much of the future in a single offseason. What I expect is more likely is that we see a few surprise non-tenders to free up cash and possibly some moves to free up additional money (Wong being an obvious example). An interesting tidbit from a baseball journalist I generally respect and follow pretty closely.

  7. I remember dreaming on Braggs and chuckled while editing this, as I remember owning so many of the baseball cards I found in a google images search. But I had no idea that he married one of the En Vogue ladies. What a fun tidbit.

  9. I hate the idea of deferred money but honestly, if the Brewers are going to extend their current players, I'm not sure there's another option.
  10. Picking up his option to trade him should be a possibility but it shouldn't be the go-to plan. You keep the guy with the expectation he will be on the Opening Day roster and if you're able to move him during the offseason (if that's what you want to do at all), good for you.

  12. Unless I'm missing something, those numbers by Seth weren't arbitration numbers, they were front-loading the contract a little by buying out his arb years and paying him more, freeing up money later in the contract.
  13. Are you passionate about a particular baseball/Brewers topic? Here's your chance to let it all out in a 'one-on-one' debate with a fellow poster. It's pretty simple: we will post some debate topics in this forum, which will become the debate threads, or, you can contact us with your own idea. It's just you, one other, and your passion and knowledge to debate and persuade in a thread all to yourselves, to take a deep dive into the chosen topic. Pre- and post-debate polls will be taken to gauge efficacy of the debate, and the thread will be opened to others for further discussion. Here are the rules: 1. All debates are 'blind' in that you won't know who your opponent is. You will send your statements and rebuttals to @Brock Beauchamp via private message (PM), who will then create the actual thread posts anonymously as "Debater A" and "Debater B". As soon as we receive your posts we will share them with your opponent, again in a PM. Opening statements will be shared once we receive them both. 2. Each debate will begin with opening statements, then alternate two rebuttals each, and end with closing statements. The opening statement should be between 300-500 words, introducing a broad overview of your major arguments. Rebuttals can be longer, up to 700 words each (not including up to 3 brief quote blocks), responding to your opponent's major arguments and incorporating further evidence. Closing statements should be between 300-500 words again, summarizing and concluding your best case. 3. You can structure your posts however you like. You can use links and embedded tables, images, and videos to support your arguments. Please supply links and properly credit any outside sources used in any of your posts. 4. We will do a 'coin flip', or 'hat draw' to see who begins after opening statements. Each poster has up to 24 hours to make a rebuttal statement. After each has made 2 rebuttals, we will ask for closing/concluding statements. 5. Be respectful. Of all, not just each other, but of owners, FO, manager/coaches, etc. That includes no characterizing another poster's intentions, no name calling, no exasperation at disagreeing. Stay true to the topic. The schedule for debates will go as follows: Opening statements for both debaters are due on a predetermined day via PM. As soon as we receive both opening statements, we will publish them at the same time Debater A will submit their first rebuttal by PM. As soon as we receive it, we will publish it and notify Debater B. As soon as we receive Debater B's first rebuttal, we will publish it and notify Debater A, and so on. Each debater will submit 4 posts in total: an opening statement, 2 rebuttal posts, and a closing statement (see Rule #2 above for guidelines on each) As soon as we publish Debater B's 2nd and final rebuttal, we will ask both debaters to submit closing statements. As soon as we receive both closing statements, we will publish them at the same time. At that point, we will also start the post-debate poll and allow for public comment on the debate. Whatever day of the week we start, you will have up to 24 hrs to make your rebuttals and closing statement after being notified of your opponent's statement/rebuttal. For any questions, or to sign up for a debate, or if you have a debate topic suggestion, please contact @Brock Beauchamp. (Disclaimer: rules and format are subject to change as we start rolling.)
  14. The next 5-6 years of Brewers baseball kinda hinges on the crop of prospects who pitched so well for the Timber Rattlers this season. With Woodruff and/or Burnes exiting within the next two years, a few guys from that pack of starters is going to need to step forward if the Brewers are to remain competitive. Ashby might be one of those guys but based on early returns, he's certainly still a question mark and either way, the Brewers need more than Peralta and Ashby to build a competitive rotation, particularly because it's really hard to see them having the money to go outside the organization to do it.

  16. Yeah, this is the kind of deal you make when you're playing with silly money.

  18. Yeah, I wonder what their plan is for the Brewers. It will be REALLY disappointing if they don’t have a dedicated Brewers writer by the time pitchers and catchers report.
