  1. Picking up his option to trade him should be a possibility but it shouldn't be the go-to plan. You keep the guy with the expectation he will be on the Opening Day roster and if you're able to move him during the offseason (if that's what you want to do at all), good for you.

  3. That's entirely possible, though it will be a lot harder to accomplish that goal if they miss out on Abreu. He's older and should require fewer years than most other players in his class of hitting.
  4. You just caught my mistake. I was flipping the career war of Murphy and Lofton in my head. Lofton is the guy who deserves to be in.
  5. If the Brewers can run out $150m payroll for two seasons, do so. It will make their inevitable slide out of contention and an $80m payroll while they rebuild much more tolerable.
  6. Unless I'm missing something, those numbers by Seth weren't arbitration numbers, they were front-loading the contract a little by buying out his arb years and paying him more, freeing up money later in the contract.
  7. With that said, Dale Murphy is an easy decision on this list. Vote him in, you don't even have to think hard about it. He doesn't carry the personal issues of most of this list and he was a better player than Mattingly.
  8. I FOUND A STICK QUICK EVERYBODY WHERE'S THE DEAD HORSE Seriously, though, I'm so over these conversations, particularly the PED guys. I just want them to get into the Hall in hopes people will at some point lose interest and stop talking about them.
  9. To get the ball rolling, here are a few topics: - Extend Burnes vs. Trade Burnes - Accept Hiura Arb vs. Decline Hiura Arb - Make Arnold POBO vs. Go Outside the Org for new POBO
  10. Welcome to the new Head 2 Head Debate forum! To get a rundown of the rules and system, check out the description thread. If you have a particular baseball/Brewers topic you would like to see debated, please post your suggestions here. You may also send a PM to @Brock Beauchamp. Definitely send us a PM if you want to take one of the sides of your suggested topic to keep it anonymous. As we get suggestions and/or get debates lined up, we will post the threads and hopefully assign a start date.
  11. Are you passionate about a particular baseball/Brewers topic? Here's your chance to let it all out in a 'one-on-one' debate with a fellow poster. It's pretty simple: we will post some debate topics in this forum, which will become the debate threads, or, you can contact us with your own idea. It's just you, one other, and your passion and knowledge to debate and persuade in a thread all to yourselves, to take a deep dive into the chosen topic. Pre- and post-debate polls will be taken to gauge efficacy of the debate, and the thread will be opened to others for further discussion. Here are the rules: 1. All debates are 'blind' in that you won't know who your opponent is. You will send your statements and rebuttals to @Brock Beauchamp via private message (PM), who will then create the actual thread posts anonymously as "Debater A" and "Debater B". As soon as we receive your posts we will share them with your opponent, again in a PM. Opening statements will be shared once we receive them both. 2. Each debate will begin with opening statements, then alternate two rebuttals each, and end with closing statements. The opening statement should be between 300-500 words, introducing a broad overview of your major arguments. Rebuttals can be longer, up to 700 words each (not including up to 3 brief quote blocks), responding to your opponent's major arguments and incorporating further evidence. Closing statements should be between 300-500 words again, summarizing and concluding your best case. 3. You can structure your posts however you like. You can use links and embedded tables, images, and videos to support your arguments. Please supply links and properly credit any outside sources used in any of your posts. 4. We will do a 'coin flip', or 'hat draw' to see who begins after opening statements. Each poster has up to 24 hours to make a rebuttal statement. After each has made 2 rebuttals, we will ask for closing/concluding statements. 5. Be respectful. Of all, not just each other, but of owners, FO, manager/coaches, etc. That includes no characterizing another poster's intentions, no name calling, no exasperation at disagreeing. Stay true to the topic. The schedule for debates will go as follows: Opening statements for both debaters are due on a predetermined day via PM. As soon as we receive both opening statements, we will publish them at the same time Debater A will submit their first rebuttal by PM. As soon as we receive it, we will publish it and notify Debater B. As soon as we receive Debater B's first rebuttal, we will publish it and notify Debater A, and so on. Each debater will submit 4 posts in total: an opening statement, 2 rebuttal posts, and a closing statement (see Rule #2 above for guidelines on each) As soon as we publish Debater B's 2nd and final rebuttal, we will ask both debaters to submit closing statements. As soon as we receive both closing statements, we will publish them at the same time. At that point, we will also start the post-debate poll and allow for public comment on the debate. Whatever day of the week we start, you will have up to 24 hrs to make your rebuttals and closing statement after being notified of your opponent's statement/rebuttal. For any questions, or to sign up for a debate, or if you have a debate topic suggestion, please contact @Brock Beauchamp. (Disclaimer: rules and format are subject to change as we start rolling.)
  12. No, the transactions forum is ONLY for front page news. As a forum user, continue doing what you’ve all been doing. People didn’t like front page transactions being posted to the Brewers forum so now they will all go to the transactions forum.
  13. The thing is that they're not clogging up the forums, they're becoming the most commented-on topics in the Brewers forum right now. Here are the latest article threads in the Brewers forum and their comment count: 3, 3, 108, 8, 9, 57, 53, 17... As I've mentioned in the past many times, long-running threads are often counter to actual conversation. Having these article threads pop in and out of rotation has actually caused the forum to have an uptick in overall posts for past couple of weeks. Topics tend to become stale within a week or two so them naturally migrating off the first page is generally good for the community at large.
  14. Yeah, unfortunately we have very little control over some really badly-coded ads slipping through the system. They often inject sloppy JavaScript that screws up all sorts of things. If anyone sees this kind of thing happen, screenshot the ad and PM me the screenie. I will contact the ad provider and get it out of rotation.
  15. The next 5-6 years of Brewers baseball kinda hinges on the crop of prospects who pitched so well for the Timber Rattlers this season. With Woodruff and/or Burnes exiting within the next two years, a few guys from that pack of starters is going to need to step forward if the Brewers are to remain competitive. Ashby might be one of those guys but based on early returns, he's certainly still a question mark and either way, the Brewers need more than Peralta and Ashby to build a competitive rotation, particularly because it's really hard to see them having the money to go outside the organization to do it.

  17. I strongly consider trading one of the starters with the option to move one or both of the other players within the following 12 months based on how the team looks in 2023. For example, I don't think Adames value today is much different than it will be in July provided he's not injured.
  18. Yeah, this is the kind of deal you make when you're playing with silly money.

  20. Yeah, I wonder what their plan is for the Brewers. It will be REALLY disappointing if they don’t have a dedicated Brewers writer by the time pitchers and catchers report.
