  1. Yeah, I didn't remember the draft went to 20 rounds. It won't be as big a problem as I thought.
  2. Not that it's not fun, simply that it's an investment of an hour or two, if I want to do a good job.
  3. Lots of guys will be moving around across the system, I guess, once they sign the draftees. Some guys will get promoted, some guys will get demoted or put on ice, and some will be ending their affiliated baseball careers.
  4. The only way you can think STL is better than MKE is if you think several guys who are outperforming their best year (including Goldschmidt, who is doing so at age 34 during a down season for offense around MLB, and Mikulos, who is not that good) will continue to do as well or better, AND that we won't have a full starting pitching rotation any time soon. It's amazing they are in first place with so many missed games by important players. They've been starting Chi-chi and Jason Alexander, for God's sake. And when STL has an injury, they've promoted guys who have done great and they are other good bets for a later season decline. The absence of Cain has improved the offense. Yelich has done well batting leadoff. There are reasons for hope, if our guys can stay healthy.
  5. these updates are too frequent. I think I'll skip this one.
  6. Was the draft always mid-July? I thought the short-season leagues didn't start until after the draft. Now they have to make room for ~25 guys, mostly on the AZ league teams, when they're signed
  7. we have several options including chi-chi and Kelley.
  8. Out of baseball (presumably) at 21. Happens every day, but seldom with that much of a bankroll. He's Dominican, he'll be set for life if he has 25% of his signing bonus.
  9. Shouldn't be more than 6 weeks to heal. Then a couple weeks to get back used to hitting baseballs.
  10. Corey Ray was 4 for 4 on Friday. Can we hope he recently made a deal with the devil? On a related note, Singleton was 2-4, but his average sits at .170. I get that it was a good idea to sign him, but when will it be time to cut bait.
  11. there's not really much of a need to promote to AAA. The pitchers probably have better stuff (but worse command) in AA. So unless there's a need at Nashville, or a need to make room for someone to play in Biloxi, there's no urgency to promote. Unless they are concerned about giving him a living wage (AAA gets paid a lot more). Plus, presumably there will be shuffling of a catcher when Severino is cleared to play.
  12. compared to the great majority of free-agent signings his contract was pretty good.
  13. late bloomers happen. Most likely he's a AAAA guy, but you never know.
  14. trying out at 1B, do you mean? I assumed that was just to give him some AB without the stress of catching.
  15. did they trot Kelley out there again in an effort to ensure whomever's pitching the 9th gets a save?
  16. What I had seen a few days ago said that Cain had to last to Saturday, today, to get his 10 years of service time. Are we sure the brewers didn't screw him out of that?
  17. Alexander might be. a "two times through the order" kind of pitcher.
  18. seems like a bad middle reliever rather than a mediocre one.
  19. I looked at one top-400 list, and the only 1b in the top 50 was Jacob Berry (listed as OF/1B, but has played OF and 3B) from LSU. There are several tall OF who might eventually get moved to 1B. Maybe one in the 2nd or 3rd?
  20. Any college 1B prospect worthy of #27? I'm kinda tired of always having a stopgap at that position (since Fielder).
  21. having a Lora and a Lara on DSL-1 is a little confusing. both got thrown out on the bases.
  22. The Cardinals are 5-5 in their last 10. That's half a win less than expected, based on their win%. That's not "not playing well."
  23. Frelick and Wiemer on track for promotion to MLB some time in 2023. Lutz seems to have recovered some of his prospect standing. Can Devanney have a career as a MLB utility guy?
  24. They are not trading hater this year, unless we fall out of a chance for the playoffs.
