The only thing that is potentially elite about this team is the starting pitching (if they were all healthy and performing to their ability) and the back end of the bullpen (which has sucked recently).
If we don't have a chance to rectify those things, the team has no chance of succeeding in the playoffs (though they can probably still limp in given the competition). So this might not be a time to expend trade capital to acquire significant players (not more than a reliever).
I don't understand taxi squads. I know they are (potentially) a few guys that travel with the team, but I don't know when they can be used. Can they be used in a game, or does the team first have to remove someone from the 26 man roster?
I've seen at least 6 stories postulating a Hader trade (after mentioning that he was available), even with a team like the Guardians (who are .500, 3.5 games behind the twins).
There are probably only a half dozen guys in MLB I'd trade him for.
.
I know that game threads are made for hot takes but don't you ever feel any shame looking back at what you post?
There were people saying that the team "tries" for a home run too much in the midst of a game where they hit 12 singles (and the only XBH was a double).
They're playing multiple positions so they can play multiple positions in the majors, at least when they are first brought up. Tyler Black is a 2b, but if he can also play OF, he'll be more usable as a bench piece when he makes the majors.
Don't know why I didn't know that. But that means that we can part with more to get him if he's here for 3 more years. Wave Chourio in front of the Pirates and see if they bite.
My take: The offense doesn't matter THAT much to THIS team.
Of course, improvement would be great. But no trades (or fluky second halfs) will make us an offensive juggernaut.
This team will go nowhere (once they get in the playoffs) without dominant starting pitching and a dominant back end of the bullpen. If we don't get that, we're just wasting resources acquiring marginally better players.
Another "fix all major needs" trade.
Trade with Pirates.
Brewers get:
Brian Reynolds
Jose Quintana
David Bednar.
Pirates get:
Whatever they want, if it's reasonable.
