  1. Ok there was a little more clarification: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/246704351.html It sounds like the scope showed a large polyp that required surgery to remove. Unusual for 35, but good that he got it checked and dealt with.
  2. Seems like since he's going to be the starter there's just no reason to rush the guy along. With his knee issues and age there just really isn't a reason for him to be playing much this spring anyway. Not rushing him because of his knees and age makes sense. Not rushing him because of a colonoscopy in December makes none. Unless there were complications his batting should have been disrupted for all of 2 days. There's something else going on, but they don't want to say what.
  3. There must be something else going on here. Non-cancerous colon polyps are usually found and removed during a colonoscopy which has about a 1 day recovery period. He's young for getting a routine colonoscopy, but if there is a family history of colon cancer, that would make it more reasonable. Surgery that has after effects lasting for 3 months sounds like situation was far from a normal procedure.
  4. The Doctor, Tom Baker, turned 80 in January. The first Doctor to reach 80, and his mind and voice are still clear enough to let him reprise his old role, if only for a scene, last year.
  5. Haven't you seen Futurama? They'll put Uke's head in a jar and he'll keep calling games for another 1000 years. http://static4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111005043526/en.futurama/images/8/81/BobUeckerHead.png
  6. Apparently the listed birth date was wrong and Bob is 80. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/242753521.html It also says he will be cutting down his work load by skipping some road games. I suppose it had to happen sometime, but games are just better with Bob behind the mike. I hope the sub they find is good, lively and entertaining (what is Sheets up to these days?)
  7. Braun is a maybe, only if he returns to MVP levels. Nobody else is even close at the moment. The only other player on the team that may even have a shot at would be Segura, and he would have to put up numbers like he did the first half of last year for the next 10 years, and all 10 years as a Brewer.
  8. After last year, it's good to see DM preparing for the possibility of a run of injuries at 1st. Of course this year the run of injuries will happen somewhere else, necessitating the signing of Yuni B. (I really wish that last sentence was in blue, but it is only cynical, not sarcastic).
  9. The evidence seems clear that PEDs do enhance performance, at least for a short time. Long term health damage has been shown for at least some PEDs. So the situation is simple, if you do not ban PEDs, they become essentially mandatory. If everyone is taking them, there is no net competitive edge, but the players all get extra health risks. Here's another way to look at it, suppose you have a son who likes baseball and shows some talent for it. Would you want him to be taking these drugs? Would you say to him, "To be really good, you need hard work, dedication and a concoction of drugs. Start taking them now."
  10. Congrats, Will West! Well Jeremy Jeffress was rumored test positive in a test given by the club while he was serving suspension. The Johnny Jolly from the Packers got a drug suspension while he was suspended.
  11. Kind of reminds me of the old Madison Mallards logo before they ditched it for a better one.
  12. Agreed, a young, cheap lefty with starter potential that the Brewers can control for 4 years for 1 year of a good but not superstar outfielder is a fair return. If you were in the market for Aoki, how much would you really give up for him? Probably not much more than a 'decent but replaceable' MLB, a 'needs a change of scenery' guy, or maybe a 'hit or miss' prospect.
  13. Chemical modification of the body is risky, but effective. If you do not ban it, you effectively require it.
  14. I have trouble believing that he just used them to recover from injury. I want him to do right, both in character and performance, but right now words don't mean much. One thing that really bothers me is that the Brewers are stuck with his contract. If the PED's gave him an edge and he doesn't deliver anymore the Brewers trapped despite Braun signing it under essentially false pretexts. I'd like to see MLB impose a rule where all contracts for players suspended for PED's become non-guaranteed for a period of 1 year following the end of the suspension. Teams could immediately cut a player, or give him a season to prove it wasn't the PED's making him play well. if after 1 year the team does not cut the player the rest of the contract would become guaranteed again.
  15. And I thought the Brewers season sucked. Why didn't humans evolve to hibernate through this miserable season.
  16. The Princess Bride - "Inconceivable!", followed by "I do not think that means what you think it means." Star Wars - "I've got a bad feeling about this." Back to the Future - "McFly! Hello McFly!", usually while bonking my son on the head because he isn't thinking things through. I quote the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy more than anything, but those were ingrained before the movie came out.
  17. He wasn't moved to the outfield, he just played there occasionally. Last year in the minors it was mostly 2nd and 3rd for him. He'll be ok at 2nd or 3rd and can get you through a game at ss. With Bianchi on the bench that should cover things. If someone better can be found, great. I'd just rather see Herrera than Yuni. Since he can play the outfield as well that could give the Brewers a little flexibility if (when) then need a 13th pitcher for a while.
  18. After searching, I can't find anything negative on his defense. A homer type blogger said his defense was outstanding, however that was just after he was called up and was on a hot streak. http://www.thinkbluela.com/index.php/2012/06/03/elian-herrera-not-just-another-flash-in-the-pan/ I'd think a sub-Yuni defense would have been noticed by now. I don't expect anything special, but a ~700 ops utility guy with decent defense has a place on the Brewers roster.
  19. Herrera may be worse defensively than Betancourt. He can't play anywhere so he plays everywhere. Eugenio Velez has the same problem. You can't hide him defensively either. Bianchi is not sweating this one out. Just wondering what you are basing that off of? Usually the utility guys have a bat that doesn't play anywhere so they play everywhere. I haven't seen him play, and nothing jumps out at me on the defensive stats (admittedly I'm not always clear on which of those stats are comparable in this situation).
  20. Best move of the off season if it means the end of Yuni as a Brewer, no matter what else they do.
  21. How are LaRussa and Torre eligible? Don't you have to be out of baseball for more than 5 years? If not, there should be so that consideration could be more objective.
  22. I still have a Coca-Cola Red Bat from the late 70's. I used it all through little league without breaking it. In large part because its weight and balance were really good for not making contact, except for the occasional weak grounder to second.
  23. If Pujols was found to be juicing you can be damn sure the media will go crazy like the Braun and Arod treatment. Yeah, I can't imagine why it wouldn't be at least as big, if not a bigger story than Braun and Arod. Especially since he is filing a suit about it. At this point, just about anyone good juicing is going to rate no more that a dejected sigh, but an over the top false denial will get a much bigger reaction. On the other hand, if he is clean, what is his best course of action? Just a denial is hard to believe anymore, and sincerity can be faked.
  24. Given all the negative publicity over ped's for Milwaukee, this is probably the last we hear about Dylan. Unless the Clomiphene works and he becomes pregnant.
