  1. Ahead of his 6 to 8 week timeline... so that means 10 or 12 weeks.
  2. I really like the influx of speed in this team. The bigger bases, no radical shifting and limited throws to first really make fast players more valuable on offense. Plus the no shift rules make having players with good range more important on defense. The front office was really ready for the changes.
  3. The extreme positional adjustment is what makes their defensive WAR calculations dubious at best. If anything, it should be a multiplying factor, not an addition/subtraction so that bad defense at premium positions is not treated as a positive, and great defense at a less valuable position is still seen as a positive. Also for first base, do the calculations take in to account the throwing errors saved from other infield positions? Cooper was an absolute master at that.
  4. This is why I don't trust dWAR at all. Baseball-reference has him listed at -1.1 on a year he won the golden glove. He was good defensively, and outstanding at the most critical skill for a first baseman - catching the ball thrown by infielders. Not only could he stretch to the point of doing the splits to catch it that much sooner to beat the runner, but balls in the dirt rarely got by him. Replace him with an average 1B in 82 and Yount probably has a dozen more errors and doesn't win his GG. If you want to say that Prince was better overall because his OBP and slugging were better enough to make up for his defensive limitations, that's a fair argument. But there is no comparison between the two defensively. I'll put Cooper at the top of my list because of the total package. And you can't beat 10's of thousands of people screaming COOOOOOOOOOOP when he came to the plate.
  5. I wonder if they got Norris to use in modified loogy situations, like a lefty up with two outs, when they don't want to burn Suter.
  6. Given that 2 of the 4 players acquired are going to AAA, this barely qualifies as buying, more like standing pat without looking like you're standing pat.
  7. If you are trying to win a championship, go for the All-Star.
  8. And without Yelich, the Brewers might be closer to Miami's 4-14 record instead of 12-7
  9. Key word here is should. I do think it was the deciding factor between Braun and Kemp in 2011. To take it to the extreme example, do you think the World Series MVP can come from the losing team? I think this question is a good test to explain why many people prefer the MVP to come from a playoff team. Well an ALDS MVP came from a losing team once...
  10. The Brewers gave up a lot of potential for 4 years of Yelich. Right now it looks great for the Brewers, but it will take a few years to tell if this was good, bad or ok for the Marlins. I do think Brinson should be sent down for his own sake, but that is the Marlins' call. It would probably be a good thing if a couple of the players become solid MLB players, just so that other teams will value trades with the Brewers better. If the Brewers win a series with Yelich, I'll be perfectly happy if all 4 become HOF players.
  11. The Doctor, Tom Baker, turned 80 in January. The first Doctor to reach 80, and his mind and voice are still clear enough to let him reprise his old role, if only for a scene, last year.
