  1. That one-out walk can't happen, with bases empty & a two run lead. Not against this team. But a great play by Miller, threading the needle on that throw to 2B with the runner btwn him & Adames.
  2. This refers more to an organizational-wide thing, but watching the game tonight I decided that I'd love to have a two week pass to travel through the D-Backs organization--at all levels--and watch their minor league hitting instructors, the things they emphasize, philosophy, mechanics, even drills they run. And then spend two weeks throughout the Milwaukee organization to compare. I brought this up in another thread, about how many other teams seem to have hitters arrive to the bigs looking much more "ready" to compete. It doesn't speak to the vets on the Brewers struggling, but there are a lot of relatively inexperienced people on Arizonas' roster that put up ABs that belie that inexperience.
  3. I'd be fine with trading Adames for the return Nate mentioned. My only concern is, after the last deadline, would a # of the Brewer players respond with their own little mental & emotional "sit down" in response to losing their leader & the guy who puts the wedge of cheese on the HR hitters' head. On the other hand, I'm not going that high for Robert.
  4. As long as it's an all-dirt infield (no sliding pits) I'd be OK with the more realistic, truer stuff they install today. Especially if it improves the bottom line (maintenance, ability to hold other events).
  5. Tapia has spent some time at or near the top of the order in his career. As long as we're rolling with him (at least for now) he looks like a better option at #2 than Winker. Looking for Peralta to do a much better job of gutting through his outings when 1 or 2 things don't go his way. Lately when that happens his whole world seems to fall apart.
  6. My sister is looking for an apartment & had a showing scheduled for Monday, They notified us it has to be re-scheduled because of Juneteenth. THAT was surprising.
  7. Walking Bae on 4 straight, and from the sound of it the last couple weren't close. Williams REALLY felt confident about facing Jason Delay there. I understand Blake Perkins bunted for a base hit? Dang, I miss all the good stuff.
  8. Even with the lefty going it makes no sense waiting a day for Winker, assuming he replaces Singleton. Either way it's a lefty on the bench, and Singleton has done next to nothing. Would rather see Winker vs a RHP in the late innings.
  9. Winker for Singleton looks like a no-brainer by Friday. Hiura (once he's activated at AAA) & Frelick (a hit & a couple walks in his return to Nashville) are possibilities in the next week or two also. Maybe Turang (4 RBI Wednesday) works his way back into the conversation. The thing is, we're talking about 3 LHH and a RHH with reverse splits.
  10. Sort of ironic Robinson & Floyd are involved in moves at the same time. I had hopes for both & thought it might mitigate our need to acquire BP arms every deadline. Of course, if Uribe shines in AAA............
  11. Keston Hiura hasn't been available for over a month. When that changes I suspect he'll be ahead of Singleton in the pecking order, which has always been the case.
  12. Normally, looking at the sked I'd agree. But the reality is they could go a game over--or under--in that stretch & still be something like a game out. In that case, you don't sell off but you don't mortgage the future for help either, save for a lottery ticket or two for a bullpen arm (our acquisition du jour for a long time now).
  13. 2022 Phillies had quite a bit more offensive talent. Flip side, the 2023 Brewers are in a division that's eminently winnable even if you have warts. So no, it's way too early to pack it in.
  14. No & yes. If he gives up his post I also think he'll take another job within the organization. And unless his replacement is a home run hire it'll be more a leave of absence than anything.
  15. I don't know about it being 2-1 had Wiemer been in RF-----it's possible----but looking at his skillset & the work he's done in the minors he's their best RF & it isn't close. I'm hoping Tapia finds himself in CF so Joey can slide over & maybe get in a little more of a comfort zone, but I doubt they'll do that.
  16. Last season it was necessary for everyone to pout & hang their heads for a week after Josh Hader was removed. I never thought Mike Brosseau being sent down would have such an effect on this team.
  17. A valid point. I've seen enough young hitters around baseball come up for their first taste, and not dominate right away but at least look "ready', in the sense that they put up competitive ABs pretty much right away. Our friends in St. Louis seem to be able to accomplish that. Contrast that with Garrett Mitchell, who has all the speed in the world to disrupt a defense but with his swing-and-miss rate & propensity to chase may as well run like Vogelbach.
  18. MTrebs made a point that I've seen play out a million times before when a team can't buy a win. You have a weakness--in this case the offense--that costs you games, then if/when THAT picks up, then one of the reliable elements of the team fails, at just the right time to cost you a win. It really makes no difference how weak the division is, if they're in the race they aren't selling, unless what comes back can be of immediate benefit. Sort of like the Hader trade (not in the results but in theory). Adames just astounds me. You put up 3 good ABs in a row vs the bullpen, have a couple runners on & he puts up arguably the worst AB of the entire game. This isn't slowpitch, you fail the majority of the time, but to look that ugly in that situation........ I'm actually looking forward to seeing what they do with the roster moving forward. It's so disjointed right now. You have 3 true OFs (I consider Anderson a 3B) & two combination linebacker-first basemen who can't play anywhere else & are both LHH.
  19. He improves the roster. I'd feel considerably better if he happened to hit right-handed, though.
  20. Yes. That, and NOT taking a hack at pitches-----in ANY count-----that aren't strikes.
  21. I'm as far from being an analytics guy as you can get. So maybe I'll be allowed to point out that using Bruisedcrew's criteria, against teams that aren't terrible they're 30-24. Which isn't a "better" point, other than it illustrates the same thing--that this team doesn't play good baseball on a consistent basis. Personally, I didn't have any more--or less--confidence going into this series than I did when they played Houston, Baltimore, NY, or Kansas City for that matter. The inconsistencies demand that sort of attitude. I've always said it isn't who you're playing, as much as how you're playing. Colorado played very, very well against us. The Mets, and to an extent Houston, played like crap. We've been lousy the last 2 days + 2 innings. I've seen nothing to verify this is a "bad" team. Or a good one. The weirdest thing to me is that the jury is still out as you approach mid-June. As for today, I see Joey Wiemer in his 4th different spot in the order in as many games. After he finally started heating up, that doesn't thrill me.
  22. I'm truly sorry, I'm not following you. Not even thinking about a comparison to last season. Simply making a reference to reliance on the home run, which I believe has been a problem for a long time. Certainly, a lot of them have gone to the off field or to CF. The problem is when we need to find other ways to score. The A's put up a few quality ABs at a crucial time. We did next to none of that. I saw two hit-and-run attempts, one from each team. Ours was grounded to the pull side. Not good. Without looking at the numbers yeah, it's obvious to me we're going oppo much more than before.
  23. I'm insinuating that's an obsession in a lot of our ABs. Not claiming we're successful at it.
  24. I would've been fine with Haines getting fired in-season, and I'd be fine with doing the same tomorrow. It's not about these guys being incompetent, or whether hitting coaches "matter". As frivolous as it sounds, it's about change for the sake of change. In the world of sports, that often works. Just a different voice, a different way of presenting the same message, even just the message that the status quo isn't acceptable. Having said that, I've always had the suspicion----it's impossible to prove----that the minor-league hitting instruction is done on the cheap, that other organizations spend more in that area than we do. But even if true, that doesn't explain the struggles by guys from other teams.
  25. This game was sort of a microcosm. The 2-strike opposite field single by Peterson. The following hit-and-run dribbler by Diaz. In the 10th, Diaz keeps the bat back long enough to hit an off-speed pitch up the middle, that even if it didn't get through gets the ghost to 3rd with the first out of the inning. Three softly hit balls, but very brainy ABs. That was more than enough to beat the launch-angle, exit velocity celebration in the eighth. Then throw in Monasterio pulling a grounder to SS with the ghost on 2nd & no one out.
