  1. If this were a Ned Yost type situation where you have someone who's had no success AND seems to be flailing, the optics would suggest Quentin Berry. But CC isn't getting fired.
  2. I'm seldom on the IGT during a game, but I'll address what I assume is the hot-button topic here (when Tellez came up to PH I looked over & saw flames shooting from my laptop). I thought it was a terrible decision to have Tellez PH, but that has nothing to do with Hiura. Dumb to have him hit leading off an inning. You had 2-3 in the lineup who he could hit for later, wait until if/when you get to a situation where you have men on. Again, walks from a starter. Remember how Burnes, Woodruff, Houser were used when they first got here? That's where Ashby should be used; unfortunately injuries put him in a spot he's proven he's not ready for. The command & composure need to catch up to the stuff.
  3. OK. More than I expected lol. It's just that baseball is more random & nebulous than IMO any other sport, and the more data there is the more either or both sides can make their point. It gets counter-productive. Here's an explanation straight from the 1920s: Maybe CC wants to give Tellez a day off, it's obviously going to be vs a LHP, and there's no other option than to play Huira unless you want to play Brosseau there, which means Wong plays. Or Caratini, which puts Super Mario in the game, something we may see tomorrow.
  4. THAT is the crux of this whole thing, and why debates like this wind up on the merry-go-round. Over-analysis. Hyper-analytics in a game that can't be fit into that kinda box.
  5. Ohhhhhhhkayyyyyyy.......I thought earlier his starting for Tellez tonight was a possibility, then I thought nah. Must see viewing, I guess.
  6. IMO, yes & yes. But how long it takes him to return & his effectiveness afterward are the wild cards in that deck.
  7. At this point in time, I'm actually fine with him being up here. He can be productive in stretches. We all know the flip side. When you look at our recent drafting habits, they're emphasizing things he doesn't bring to that particular table. I think they would've loved to have pulled the trigger on a deal involving him last week, but it just didn't happen.
  8. My organizational stat of the Day: Tristan Lutz has 50 RBI in 54 games. Any chance of someone buying that kid a 1B's mitt for Christmas?
  9. Obviously glad for the win. But Gott, for crying out loud, you go out in the ninth with a four run lead & start walking people, that just lets your team down when you have to get Devin up & into the game. Lauer was great after a rough first.
  10. Nice thread. Most seem to think Frelick, Ruiz & Turang are the best bets. I agree. Turang is a good bet to replace Wong at 2B, but with the "position player group" mentality I wouldn't be surprised if he moves around a little as well. Depending on circumstances It wouldn't surprise me if Frelick or Ruiz are here before the season ends. Weimer & Mitchell are a little tougher call. The DH spot has a lot of candidates so it's hard to say which way they'll go, it could certainly open up a spot for one of them. Mitchell hasn't been able to get the volume of ABs due to health so Joey might be a little ahead of him as far as a roster spot in 2023. No one saw any of Stearns' bigger off-season or early-season trades coming so something we aren't anticipating will probably happen. Yelich can't be traded, so would Tellez go somewhere in a package deal with Yelich moving to 1B? He doesn't fit the 1B "profile" but with that spot being a ? in the system & Yelich here for awhile, who knows?
  11. All teams go through stretches where they don't play well. But you're right, the long losing streaks are avoidable. The key to making a, say, 12-game stretch of not playing well 5-7 as opposed to 2-10 is defending well (we haven't been), pitching (hasn't always been poor but certainly isn't at the level we're used to) and if you aren't a consistent offensive juggernaut you have to find ways to squeeze across a run here & there (we're not really built that way). Pitch & defend better, and the home run or two, likely with no one on base, can be a difference maker.
  12. I'm assuming almost everyone we talked to for a potential major deal was talking Chourio, Frelick, Weimer and/or Turang. And we just weren't going to do that save for the unlikelihood of putting something together for Soto. And wisely so.
  13. Are you thinking of Peters? Bush went for Kelly & Matthias. Which is still OK with me since Kelly is rule 5 eligible. I too, think Bush will be OK, I just wonder sometimes about the sense of urgency in this organization regarding bullpen pieces at the deadline, compared to other needs. Of course that's easy to say when we can't get behind the closed doors & know what it would take to pick up the guy we "should've" gotten.
  14. Bush has had, if I remember correctly, 2 outings in the last six weeks where he's allowed an earned run. They both came this week. Williams allows his first earnie in what, 2 months? The Hader trade results won't be in for a long time, but this week was more about hugely unexpected failures by others, poor defense, and very untimely BBs by starters to light a fire.
  15. I've never bought into this bad team/good team stuff regarding the schedule. What they've shown me this season is that they can easily win a sufficient % of games to win their division providing they find their watermark and play to that level consistently. HOW you're playing, rather than WHO. This isn't the NFL. I'd love a sweep this weekend. But I'll be happy with 2 out of 3, providing they can consistently do that. That's been the key to their success in the past, and it's predicated on pitching & defense, both of which have been lousy. When you get to the final X number of games, then the schedule can play into it more. But right now they just need to get back to what's made them successful.
  16. My guess is stuff similar to this has happened numerous times, and it wasn't run up the flagpole because the team involved hadn't just gone through a trade deadline rife with criticism while being swept by a last-place team. His surgery is being paid for, his future with the Brewers was anywhere from hanging on a thread to non-existent. Then his last tweet says his problem is more with the union than the team anyway.
  17. I saw in the box score that he had an OF assist, thx for illustrating it. With all the deserved attention some of the other OFers throughout the system are getting, I'm just thrilled that Mitchell has experienced success since being promoted. With all the downtime he's had to endure he's been off the radar screen for some fans, I think. The way he & Weimer can run & defend, for their size, my goodness..........
  18. The debate is, to what extent is clubhouse morale the FO's responsibility? If they're so disillusioned right now, they need to have it pointed out to them that at least 2 of these 4 losses physically had zero to do with Josh Hader not being here. Suck it up, deal with it, indeed. If they're bothered by this, I would tend to add "grow up".
  19. Yeah, Brantley spent the whole season at Huntsville. It looks like Cain played at 3 levels that year, so they must've been teammates at some point. I remember HOPING it was Green but not getting my hopes too high.
  20. Watching him this year, I think for the most part he's average defensively, with the exception of the arm of course. Metrics-wise I have no idea. This is the time of year guys play through w/o being 100%, so that's a valid theory.
  21. On paper, you have the same depth in the pen (actually more after the other trade), with (again, on paper) a quality closer replacing a quality closer. The idea is the effect on the pen is negligible, and you add two prospects they really like. This wasn't designed to make them better right now (unless Ruiz comes up & contributes), but to add to the talent pool while not getting appreciably worse. Now if the team is bothered by the move, it either is a move we shouldn't have made, or the team collectively needs to grow up & accept the challenge. I'm sure there's people on both sides of that.
  22. The last four days, they sure are. They were something different in the previous 8. And when they played Toronto & Tampa. Need to play better. And, if the Hader trade really is the cause of this consternation then there needs to be a meeting, attitude adjustment, whatever you want to call it. Because if it is, it's a self-inflicted prophecy because physically, Josh Haders' absence had nothing to do with two of these losses if not three.
