  1. Unless we get much more fortunate with our starters' health than we have been I think Sproat continues to start. He might be OK out of the pen as long as you can guarantee he'll always start an inning. His coming in w/runners on base would concern me.
  2. That makes for a more potent batting order, but the fly in the ointment is that Yelich pretty much has to DH. That puts Bauers in LF, and I wouldn't expect to see that on a regular basis.
  3. Can't we just blame the whole thing on Carlos Zambrano & be done with it?
  4. I've read many IGT's over the years, are you absolutely sure about that?😄.
  5. With all due respect, I think Uribe set his own table on this one.
  6. I think a knee drop & giving thanks for pitching a scoreless inning would've been much more appropriate for Uribe after a four-pitch walk w/2 outs & no one on in a 6-0 game. That tells me, just as much as his theatrics do, that there's much growing up to do. @liveforoctober makes a great point re Peralta no longer being here; I would hope that has nothing to do with it but..........? After the bad throw in the 1st inning, wow, Hamilton really showed me something with the glove. With the speed & power combo, what I wouldn't give for Mitchell to cut the K rate, even to 25%.
  7. I'd like to see him get as many trips to the plate as possible too. But fact is he has more PAs so far this season vs RHP then lefties.
  8. The key to unlock that is Chourio in CF & Bauers in LF. And we'll be seeing that; they just aren't comfortable doing it on a regular basis which I understand. And IMO you're downgrading your defense in RF pretty considerably if it's someone other than Frelick. It's an important factor but people don't want to consider that because he's hitting .220.
  9. I'm hoping he's getting a better feel for the breaking stuff mechanics, release point, etc working in side sessions in recent days & that we see a positive difference when he gets into a game. You'd have to think one or both needs to pitch at least once before Houston.
  10. The bulk outings recently HAVE been interesting, as well as Uribe & Megill both in mothballs for several days. I fully expected one of them in the 9th yesterday, non-save situation notwithstanding.
  11. My concern in recent games is the chasing, Chourio & Yelich in particular but not exclusively. Let's not forget the effectiveness of the lengthy ABs earlier in the season, grinding, fouling off tough pitches, going deep into counts. I have no idea if the numbers bear this out but it seems that lately we've been letting opposing pitchers off the hook on 3-ball counts much more than before. I salivate at the thought of Chourio getting to the point in his development where he gets a better feel for what's a good pitch to attack & what isn't. As for Yelich..........he's providing pop, and at this stage in his career you almost feel like you have to live with the occasional bad swing decision. Whether he lasts eight weeks, three weeks or two days I felt good for Rengifo yesterday. Four for four in good ABs; unfortunately Yelich took an RBI away from him.
  12. True. but my larger point was that against Yamamoto, MOST teams will be challenged to score a lot of runs & are going to find themselves behind the eight ball if they give up five. Not just Milwaukee. That four-AB stretch in the 5th was harmful; on this day it was pretty much a killer. Including post-season, I believe the guys' given up more than 5 runs once in his last forty-some starts.
  13. It was. But facing Yamamoto today, I think it was much more significant that you allowed five.
  14. Yeah, which is why hanging your hat on the run-prevention is so important. Without extraordinary batted-ball luck on both sides of the ball, you aren't going to beat a team like this walking seventeen batters in two days. Credit LA---like I mentioned, their plate discipline was so good it was bordering on ridiculous---but there's room for growth from this staff, and hopefully they keep moving in the same direction.
  15. I felt the same way. He did it on Friday w/Henderson too, although you had some leeway there. With the job Henderson (Jim) & Hook have done with some of these youngsters, I'll trust the decision-makers AFA when to pull & when to encourage a little growth.
  16. Bad 4 or 5 hitter stretch did 'em in today. It's Yamamoto. You aren't going to win a 7-6 type game. I was OK with trying to get Sproat through the 'wall' at 80-some pitches---Freeman beat him for the walk, which wasn't surprising. Then Tucker beat Drohan; then the ambush. Given the opposing starter, actually I've seen worse ABs than what we put up today. just couldn't get the 'next hit', as CC used to call it. Lately we really haven't seemed like a team that chases a whole lot, but vs the LA lineup it sure seemed that way because their swing decisions are impeccable. The better we get at it, the better we'll be.
  17. And two starts do not a season make, but let's keep an eye on Tyson Hardin.
  18. I don't keep track of such stuff around MLB, but I suspect it's pretty rare to DFA someone who still has options. Perkins will be replaced at some point but I doubt he'll be DFA'd. Right now Lockridge is hurt, and they have no inclination to have Lara come here & sit half the time which is what I think would happen. Those two things supersede Perkins hitting .110 or whatever it is. They might be thinking more heavily about Lara if Mitchell was struggling too, but he's showing some semblance lately. In his last 16-17 PAs Mitchell has K'd only three times, which for him is David Eckstein territory.
  19. Yep. His last one or two innings, a lot of runners on 2B were tapping their hats just before the pitch was thrown.
  20. As per usual, many positives this week on the farm. But if I had to choose one it would be the back-to-back outings by Hardin.
  21. At whatever point he's removed from the roster, the decision as to whether he's (A) let go or (B) optioned wouldn't be up to Murphy.
  22. I thought Gasser was pretty similar to Sproat, Crow & Henderson, except instead of 4-5 innings the effectiveness only lasted 3.
  23. Not using Megill after the leadoff walk in the 8th was interesting. It isn't a no-brainer since you're down a run, but he hasn't worked much lately, plus he WAS up earlier. Kinda looked like a 2nd-guess to me. But bottom line, Hall has the ability to get outs from both sides of the plate provided he gets ahead in the count & just didn't do that. This was sort of an audition for better things AFA his role is concerned & he failed. Other than that, once it settled in to a 4-3 game the biggest difference was that one team chased too much---definitely too much to expect to win---and the other team chased virtually never. I wonder if Woodford will be removed. He's a 13th man on the staff, no better or worse than other 13th men around MLB, but you'll need long coverage if needed the next few days.
  24. 100%. With the loss of Zerpa, I know Ashby is pretty durable but Drohan's emergence as a LH option has just been so huge. Koenig working his way back is encouraging, as is Zastryznys' work in AAA since returning. If Hall can correct some command issues, he can be a real weapon. And Fitzpatrick acquitted himself pretty well when up here. Depth, depth, depth.
  25. I was quite interested in him last summer as another INF option. He hasn't played much 3B this year, but as things now stand he'd look better on the roster than Rengifo. During the off-season though, I wouldn't have thought that.
