  1. Well, I studied the game all evening and did some research into the type of product I wanted, a flat screen TV. I extracted the data from the site (Swoopo has every ended auction available to look at since their inception) and put together a spreadsheet of the best chance and method to win a TV for as little as possible. I invested in some bids (Sucker!!) and set up my BidButler (part of my strategy) and went to bed. I woke up this morning the owner of a Samsung ln37 a550 37" HDTV. It cost me $1.87, but $40.00 in bids. In all, with the shipping and handling I will be out about $70.00. Not bad since the TV retails for between $1,000 and $1,200. http://www.swoopo.com/auc...080p-lcd-hdtv/142076.html
  2. The irony of this situation is that I wonder if Sheets isnt a little upset that last year we acquired Sabathia and he became the darling of the franchise by carrying us to the playoffs while Sheets became forgotten and people started to feel bitter about him for getting hurt; now if Sheets were to resign, stay healthy and pitch like Ben Sheets he could carry us into October and beyond and basically be the greatest thing to happen to Brewers baseball since the mid-80s. I would have to think that a full year of Sheets + a full year of Gallardo = 1/2 year Sabathia and 3/4 year Sheets from lats year.
  3. Also beware, it looks like these "auctions" remain in the last 15 seconds for a very, very long time if they increase by mere pennies per bid. There is currently a 42 inch television going for $20.00 or so, if that goes up to about, even $50.00 it might take hours before it ends and you will be sitting in front of the computer for a very long time. You need to time it so you get in at the end.
  4. This is not a scam, I do not think, but definitely fishy. I notice a lot of stuff are set up as penny auctions, which means you can only bid it up a penny, rather than say, wanting to pay $500.00 for a $800.00 TV, you have to first bid .01 more than the highest bid. If that bid is $5.00, then you bid $5.01. Sure, the top bid might be at $400 for the TV, but if they make $0.75 per bid between 5 and 400, they will make them about $30,000.00. Wow.
  5. Reminds of the old trick "I will auction this off this $20.00 bill, starting at a dollar. The winner gets the $20.00 bucks, the next highest bidder owes me half his losing bid." Eventually because nobody wants to lose, people keep bidding it up and someone ends up paying more than $20.00 for the dollar bill and someone else pays a good amount to NOT win the $20.00 bill.
  6. I remember the winter of 1996 when I was a senior in high school, I missed my first ever days of school for illness when I was diagnosed with Mono. The doctor told me to stay home the entire week. I missed school Monday and Tuesday and then the last 3 days of the week were canceled due to the extreme could. this would have been mid-february 1996. It was great I got the week off and only missed a two days of school.
  7. Hey what happened to this trade that was all but done pending Herbie's signature? Are they sending him the notice via pony express??
  8. I highly doubt they bring in a current TMJ voice. While Powell is employed by WTMJ, he isnt one of their personalities. He was hired as a sports play-by-play guy, not as a radio personality. I cannot imagine there being much if any chemistry between Uecker and the Big Unit or God forbid someone like Dan O'Donnell or Jeff Falconio. No, the brewers have put out their add for a replacement and I would imagine that whomever is chose will have years of play--by-play experience in another major league market, the minors or another sport (a la Brian Anderson).
  9. Big Market teams do build through the draft, but not with their own draft picks. Usually, because in years past they have bought up all the good free agents, even when they dont want to retain them they offer them arbitration and when another team signs that player they are awarded multiple draft picks, usually equal or better to the ones they lose from signing new players. This is what the Yankees and Red Sox have been doing for years. Then the media (national and others) hype the prospects and they are traded to the likes of the Pirates and Phillies for real players with high salaries. So, no, big market teams dont have any problem giving up draft picks, you are right, but they still do build though the draft, just in a different way than the Brewers do.
  10. I believe all of two votes get you onto next years ballot. It is amazing to me that players like Sanchez and Listach are getting votes while legends like Crandall and Logan cant get enough.
  11. How is trading Alexander when he has little value and just upside any different than drafting Alexander when he has little value and just upside? It was my (self-limited) understanding that the Bucks would have rather had Conley than Yi in the 2007 draft and that they "settled" for Joe Alexander after trying to figure out how to trade up to get someone they really wanted in 2008's draft. If they make this deal they would have traded Yi, Sessions and Alexander for Conley, Jefferson and (presumably) a first round draft pick in 2009.
  12. Russ - If Sheets signs a one year deal somewhere and then pitches 230 innings next year, how does that change his 2010-2014 innings projections?
  13. That is what I mean. IF he doesnt want to play here, I just wish he or DM would say so and move on, rather than wonder why we have no interest.
  14. If I have to be at a bar/restaurant to watch a game, Wild Wings is as good as any place. The one in Oshkosh is fantastic. Lots and lots of big screens.
  15. I dont know about less than zero. That seems to imply that Sheets would rather not play in 2009 than play of the Brewers - that seems a bit excessive. Also, why does this situation, to me, seem like some sort of bad breakup between a couple. They break-up (season ends), there are some tears, one party offers to give it another try (offers arbitration), the other side doesnt accept the offer to reconcile, then regrets it but is too proud to come back and ask for another shot, while the party that offered to reconcile still would like to but figures they made their pitch and it is up to the other side to come back to them. I wish Melvin would say "we are not interested in bringing him back" or "He told us he doesnt want to play here." Unless that is the case, just pick up the phone and see where they are at.
  16. If they update the thread title it will be fine. I'd like to see Bonds play one more year just to see if he still has it. He sure did the last year he played.
  17. It also gives us security in 2010 and 2011 if we deal Fielder. Knowing we have a vet to play 1b if needed would make trading Prince after this year much easier.
  18. What did we sign Jeffrey Hammonds for 7 years ago? Wasnt that about 7-8 million a year? Then Gary Matthews Jr. got 10-11 million a few years back. To adequately fill CF we are gonna have to spend some cash, unless Lorenzo Cain can come up for 2010, but I think he is further away than that right now - and far from a sure thing.
  19. I advocate for trading in both of your vehicles and getting a newer (but used) minivan for the family, and a smaller, older used sedan for trips around town and to work. I still think my mini van is one of the best investments I have made and it makes life SO much easier when my wife can just walk into the back of the van to settle down the little ones while we are cruising. She drives it to work then and I have the Sentra for myself. My problem is that our mini van is a 1999 and the Sentra a 2007, I wish I could swap those two years and Id be much happier since we depend on the minivan more than anything else. I cant imagine the CR-V, while nice and dependable and with good resale, provides you with as much room as you will need with 2 kids.
  20. The amazing thing is, they aren't falling that fast. They are flying very vast, in a horizontal direction, but the speed at which they are descending does not look anywhere near terminal.
  21. We've seen it. It was in 2004. He wont touch that again, which is fine. I'll take 185 innings and a 3.00 ERA from him anyday.
  22. These are great moves by the Red Sox. There is hardly any such thing as "risk" on a one year deal, especially at the prices the Red Sox are signing these guys at. I havent added up all the deals, but it cant be THAT much more than we ponied up for Gagne last year. The Brewers could be doing this if they wanted to. The Sox have built great depth with these moves, it isnt like they are acquiring potential free agents in trades for next to nothing because the salaries are so high nobody else can compete (like the Yankees do; see Abreu, Nady, Pudge, etc.)

  24. So it sounds like the Milwaukee faithful booed Yi tonight in his return to Milwaukee. Way to make me proud Milwaukee.
  25. I feel the same way about this situation as I did with Sabathia, that Hoffman is "considering" the Brewers and keeping them on the line in order to squeeze something more from LA. It seems like this offseason that the Brewers have been doing a lot of waiting for others to make up their minds (Sabatihia, Cashman, Hoffman)
