  2. Good picks fellas, lets keep it rolling.
  3. Yeah, I was giving him until this morning, thinking he might be out of town for the weekend. Taking suggestions for the pick, and then I'll make it for him.
  4. Top, FIB on the clock.
  5. Wow, nice catach hyerbro!! Great angle to take!
  6. Utley, was the OP really suggesting we use RBI to determine who is having the better season?
  7. Bump, list of some of the better players remaining... Alex Gordon Matt Garza Cameron Maybin Colby Rasmus Luke Hochever Garrett Olson Mike Pelfrey Ricky Romero Andrew McCutcheon B/OF Chase Headley (SDP -- #66 overall) P Kevin Slowey (MIN -- #73) SS Yunel Escobar (ATL -- #75) P Will Inman (MIL -- #85) C Taylor Teagarden (TEX -- #99) P Jensen Lewis (CLE -- #102) OF Justin Maxwell (WAS -- #114) 3B Mat Gamel (MIL -- #115) OF Travis Buck (OAK #36) OF Jordan Schafer (ATL #107) 1B Steven Pearce (PIT #241)
  8. primetime outta time, jays take buchholz.
  9. I geniusly scheduled a court trial in.....Ladysmith tomorrow which means 4 hours up, 1 hour trial, 4 hours back....and there goes any chance of following the draft. But yes, I am excited.
  10. For who? THe Brewers just took Tulowitzki...I guess that means you disagree with the pick. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. Keeping it on the front page. If PrimeTime doesnt make a pick soon we'll make one for him. Suggestions?
  12. And the Boo's rain down from the Gallery! Jets suck!!!!11! All kidding aside, Zimmerman and Gordon havent done all the much offensively to distance themselves from Tulowitzki and while both are good defenders at third base, Tulowitzki is a better defender at a premium defensive position. I also considered Garza, Ellsbury and Buchholz with this pick. I think the pitchers are both very good, but I just didnt see the #1 starter potential or upside that you look for in a top 5 pick from a pitcher. I think they will both settle in around a high 3 or low 4 ERA and have a nice career. Id love to have them, but not at 5. Ellsbury I like a lot, good defense, great plate discipline, great speed, but his lack of power scared me away, as I see him more as a 10-12 HR guy.
  13. 300 wins is usually a 1st ballot ticket. Smoltz ha 200+ wins and about 150 saves, he has to be close to first ballot.
  14. Brewers take Troy Tulowitzki. I'd feel better about the pick if he hadnt started out so slow this year, and while I dont know if he is the offensive player that he showed last year, I think he is good for a .280 average and 20 Hrs a year while playing gold glove caliber short stop.
  15. I didnt say he did, just that it would be cool to see all three go in together.
  16. Time for a Miller on the Clock. I'll take suggestions on the Brewers pick if anyone would like to offer them. While I am almost certain to take either Ellsbury or Clement, what I am interested in is what if both Ellsbury and Clement were available who would you choose. And of they werent available, or if we wanted to go for a 3b would it be Gordon or Zimmerman? Also, Garza and Clay Bucholtz are out there as well.
  17. Its gotta be a career for a press conference. Id love to see him, Glavine and Maddux all retire at the end of the year and go into the Hall together.
  18. The work Patrick does here is incredible. It really puts Brewerfan.net on the map as a premiere draft resource. Sometimes when it comes to the draft I think Patrick is superhuman, and then I remember that he wrote this leading up to the 2002 draft. Of course Patrick has never tried to downplay how badly he wanted Scott Moore that year, but no matter, Patrick's draft knowledge is second to none here at BF.net. Thanks!
  19. Homer. Kidding, That is obviously a good pick. I couldnt fault you for taking Arizona's original pick here, Justin Upton when you factor in where Upton is today, what he projects to as well as defense and position (CF). I'd rather have one in hand than two in the bush though, as they say, and for that reason Braun, has to be the pick.
  20. lol, nobody wants the Cubs.
  21. When in doubt, sound it out! I heard that too. It sent a shiver down my spine.
  22. Im not saying past events will predict the future (i.e. luck evening out), what I am saying is that the nature of a baseball season is such that in making a projection such as 88 wins, the projector (I believe) isnt predicting that team will win at a steady/constant .543 winning %, but rather that after all home/raod games are played and a large enough sample size for each player is defined that the team will win 88 games. This would include hot streaks, home/road splits, small sample size, liklihood of injury, etc. If the latter is the case, might we not expect the Cubs to not only regress to winning at a .543 level the rest of the way, but as the sample size grows and they play more road games to actually win at less than a .543 pace and maybe something closer to .500 or even below???
  23. We are starting as soon as the teams are filled i.e. tonight hopefully. We are doing just the first round. If anybody wants to double up, feel free. I'll grab Boston as well. On that note, if you read this late and want to get in, just post if you want one of these teams and if someone is already doubled up I will bump them from their second team and add you. Boston - RyDogg66 2nd team Cubs Astros A's - zzzmanwitz 2nd team
  24. If the Cubs are an 88 win team, arent they still an 88 win team? What I mean by that is, the oddsmakers who project that dont project the cubs to simply win at a consistent .543 pace the entire year. Perhaps as an 88 win team they will have good stretches and bad ones. They may win 10 in a row and lose 7 in a row. They could play out of their minds for two months and slump badly for another. They might even play a large % of their games at home to start the season and get off to a good start and then fade back when they play many road games. All the while, still being an 88 win team. I think the logic used last year that at 24-10, all we had to do was play a a .500 level and waltz into the playoffs was flawed just like I think saying the same thing about the Cubs this year is flawed. Preseason projections should be taking into account 81 home games, 81 roads games, slumps, streaks, luck and injury. The Cubs are what they are, an 88 win team. If they win more than 90 I will be surprised.
