  1. Yeah it was way easier than I thought. I walked in, they took a look at it and handed me $700.00.
  2. If its a girl name her Wendy.
  3. Brett, I think the equivalent to a 10-day contract might be a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training (big league camp). Once you get your foot in the door and can display your abilities, even in a spring training game, you just might make the kind of impression that could net you a roster spot.
  4. I have a $50 2001 American Gold Eagle coin (1 oz. fine gold) that I am looking to sell. If anyone is interested let me know. Also, if anyone could let me know where in Milwaukee I could go to sell it I would appreciate that as well.
  5. Anyone considered the Japanese League? They've been known to hand out some nice contracts.
  6. What? Details!? Ted Haggard
  7. Re: Jesus Camp - that was one that I was considering as well. It looks really interesting, and horrific at the same time. I'm gonna check it out. I got my first shipment of Netflix yesterday, finally. They were really nice when I called them and told them my original shipments never arrived, and they gave me "bonus" movies. SO while I have the 2 disc at at time plan, I also have a bonus movie at home so that makes three. Anyway, I stated watching the documentary "I Like Killing Flies" about a hole-in-the-wall family run restaurant in Manhattan. I made it about 1/2 through before my wife got too tired to stay up with me. We were both really enjoying it so I stopped it and we will watch the other half tonight.
  8. Bats, especially when they get into my house.
  9. I kind of had a unique experience on 9/11/01. I was waiting tables at an upscale cafe in Ann Arbor, MI. I eventually ended up managing the restaurant, but at this point I had only been there about 4 weeks and was just to the point of waiting tables by myself and getting to know the regulars. One of the regulars came in and told me he heard that a plane had hit the WTC and he and I assumed it was a small cessna type plane and that it was minor. He left and came back about 20 minutes later and told me that another plane had hit the WTC and that they were rumored to have been commercial jets. It was shocking but I had to keep doing my work, it was about 9:00 on EST and I had another 5-6 hours ahead of me. So I got bits and pieces of information, and sometimes, rumors throughout the day from various regulars and from more waitstaff coming in for the lunch hour. But the interesting thing was throughout the morning, I was waiting on people who were still living in the pre-9/11 world. Me knowing what had happened and them sitting around, sipping coffee, laughing with a friend, or having a meeting over an omlet and some tea, and that then one-by one cell phones ringing, and peoples expressions changing, their faces looking panicked, one woman not able to control herself and letting out a muffled scream. Watching the person who got the call explain what had happened to a colleague or friend, their reactions..... It was surreal to watch it all unfold at the cafe that morning. All morning people who had been going about their days walked into the restaurant not knowing what had happened and I was there to see all of them find out, their reactions. There was a lot of food that was served that was never eaten that morning. I walked home at about 2:30, through campus at the UNiversity of Michigan, where my wife was enrolled in graduate school. I distinctly remember walking past a newspaper box and it already had a "new addition" with the pics of the WTC burning and a huddle of college age girls standing around the box crying. I didnt actually see any live pictures of the tragedy until I got home that afternoon at about 3:00.
  10. Wow, impressive. Thanks Kat!! I've only seen two of those (Amelie and Layer Cake) and loved them both. But a lot of those Ive thought about adding to my queue on Netflix, now I will for sure.
  11. Let the debate begin - er, continue.... http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?tsn=1&nav=messages&webtag=ml-rockies&tid=8356
  12. While waiting for the Netflix to arrive, I started off with one at the end of my queue last night. I went to Family Video, anyone else have one nearby? Man, this place is great. New rentals are $2.49, and stuff that is "almost new" are $1.00 for 5 nights, and anything else is 2 for $1.00. So a few weeks ago I went and got THE SHIPPING NEWS and Italian For Beginners for $1.00 total. I only got around to watching The Shipping News, mostly because my wife had just finished the book and is teaching it in her class this semester. It was pretty good. Nothing that knocked my socks off, but the characters were well done. My biggest complaint would be that it ended kind of abruptly. I never got around to watching Italian for Beginners and ended up getting late fees on both. which is why I decided to try Netflix. So last night I went back to Family Video and got The Constant Gardener and Match Point. We decided on The Constant Gardener based on the reviews in this thread. It was a really good movie. Wonderfully shot by the director, and if I recall, it is done by the same guy who did City of God. Which has been recommended to me by Brett and is now high on my queue, so I am looking forward to that one as well. The acting was fabulous, but with most movies like this one I really couldnt figure out how people were connected, in what way they were, etc., but I knew enough to know who was the "goog guys" and who were the "bad". The ending was a little curious as to why Justin (Fiennes) did the things he did, especially at the end, but I just chalked it up to him wanting to be with his wife.
  13. Fielder's deal better be for five year. No sense on paying him above the league minimum next year and giving him security if the Brewers cant get something out of the deal as well (like buying out a year of FA).

  15. Chris Capuano and Tony Gwynn for Jason Bay. Yes, yes, I like that.
  16. Well under the 'ole line of "No good deed ever goes unpunished," I have found out what happened to my movies. As some of you know, I have moved back to Oshkosh, from Milwaukee. About a year ago I moved my family to Milwaukee and we rented out our house. Long story short, we moved back a month ago for a variety of reasons, back into the house we own. We've been here 6 weeks now. So we know our mailman, he's a really nice guy. He was taking an extended labor day holiday and wasnt going to be back until late this past week, so he tells the sub that "the family that used to live in that house has moved back in..." The sub already knew we had moved back in, so he thought that we had moved out AGAIN and that the family that was in the house the past year was back...so when our movies arrived from Netflix he simply wrote return to sender on the packages and shipped them back, thinking we were no longer at the house. Sheesh. So I should be getting my movies on Tuesday now, since they are shipping on Monday.
  17. Maybe I will try it out. What the heck, a few more weeks free afterall. I do like independent and foreign films, oh and documentaries, but nothing too obscure.
  18. Yeah, I called them. They apologized but just said they "must have been lost in the mail" like this sort of thing happens all the time. Which, by the way, does this happen a lot? They then said they'd reship them...but they wont be going out until Monday. So I guess they dont ship on Saturdays? Man, what kind of operation are they running over there? Oh well, I was hoping to have some movies to watch this weekend.
  19. I gotta tell ya, Im doing this 2-week free trial with Netflix, I was planning on continuing the subscription, but the mail came today and still nothing. I ordered on Monday, they shipped Tuesday with an expected arrival date of Wednesday and here we are Friday and still no movies. I am NOT pleased. If it's gonna be 4 day turnaround I dont see any reason to keep the subscription.
  20. I think we're losing sight of the point. My initial reaction to this story was to people's statements that Ankiel's career is now over or that he should somehow be shamed into leaving the game or something. It bugs me because no other athletes are held to the same standards. Football players are busted left and right and it is barely a story. A baseball player is simply suspected of something and the world seems to stop. Im not excusing it or denying it or approving of it, but Im curious as to why the double standard exists.
  21. I would think the suspension of Raffy Palmeiro was pretty huge, considering: http://www.profbob.com/images/Rafael%20Palmeiro%20best.jpg What is he doing in that picture Brian? Trying to explain how his Viagra works?
  22. Sue them in small claims court.
  23. Here is where Boras can screw his clients. Fielder is young, but lets be honest, he is fat. Yeah, its genetics, so cut him a break, big deal, he is still awesome. But he has 4 more full years of playing before he can cash in. A knee problem could crop up, foot issues, etc. Basically what Boras would be saying is that Prince has NO security until 2012, when he would be playing his first year with his new team (Detroit) under a new contract. If Boras and Fielder were smart, they would sacrifice one year of FA for security between 2008-2012 and then cash in after 2012 rather than after 2011. Prince would still be just 29 years old heading into that 2013 and would make a huge amount of money. Not to mention that Prince is gonna make less than 500k next year without a formal contract extension. The Brewers could give him a 3-5 million next year if Prince would be willing to sell off a year of FA and stick around until after 2012. It just makes sense to me, but who am I?
  24. Say hello Alcides Escobar....and Im fine with that.
