  1. You want Woody and Freddy pitching on reduced rest after recent injuries? The games after this series matter, too...
  2. Goldschmidt and Arenado will get theirs. You just can't let others in their lineup do damage.
  3. Goldschmidt and Arenado at-bats are going to be nerve-racking this weekend.
  4. Yeah. I guess I don't really care now if it's the division or the wild card with the expanded playoffs. Before, the division would guarantee you a spot in the division series, whereas now you're looking at the wild card round unless you have a top two record which the Mets and Dodgers pretty much have a stranglehold on.
  5. We have a real chance to take a playoff spot from the Padres tbh...
  6. I meant one of those prospects, not all of them. Also, Beeter has a 50 FV, or overall grade on MLB pipeline, which is the same as those prospects.
  7. Hard to do that when you have the MVP co-favorite in Arenado hitting behind him...
  8. Yeah, because Turner went with Scherzer and his salary. But had the Brewers wanted to acquire just Turner the cost would have been quite high with his 1.5 years of arbitration control remaining and would have come at a time when the Brewers farm system was probably the worst in the majors. Then, we would've lost him after this season. There's just no way we can usurp the Dodgers in these situations, and it's not in our interest to do so. You say that's the "simple thing to get Bell", but have you considered that the Nationals may have preferred to trade both Soto and Bell together? We were were listed as among the favorites for Bell, so my guess is that Stearns really wanted him, but once Bell was going to be included as part of the Soto deal that put him out of our reach. As for Beeter, while our farm system is significantly improved, you can't say Kelly is equivalent because he was ranked 18th in our system, as the Dodgers system remains superior to ours. MLB Pipeline gives Beeter a 50 FV, so that would have basically required us to part with a Gasser/Turang/Mitchell/Black to get Gallo. That's a terrible deal for us when Gallo has been so bad and is going to be a free agent after the year.
  9. Agreed. There's a reason why the guy was once widely expected to be taken in the top 5 of the draft. Loved the pick then and am loving it even more now.
  10. This is getting very exciting. A guy who has every tool but was so wanting for power is now absolutely crushing the ball.
  11. FWIW, Keston's K rate in the minors this year (small sample size) has been 25%, which is a little lower than it was before he got called up in 2019. Meanwhile, his K% across July and August in the majors is 32.4%. Obviously, you'd like it to be even lower, but that is in a range where, even if his BABIP regresses, he should still be very productive with his elite quality of contact. Also, watching some early 2022 Hiura video today, I've noticed one particular adjustment he's made in-season at the plate. We all heard about the reduced leg kick in spring training, however, in the last couple months or so he's also switched his batting stance from open to closed. That change coincides nicely with his summer hot run.... In all, I think the lost Hiura of 2021 is in the past. The real question here is whether going forward we will get more of the 2019 all-star version or the 2020 mediocre version. Overall, judging by his contact stats, which rival his 2019 season, I'm inclined to think we're moving towards the all-star version. Probably still short of that with his K rate, but someone who needs to be in the lineup quite regularly, particularly against RHP.
  12. Trea Turner would have nearly emptied the farm system. Josh Bell, they were interested in, but he ultimately ended up going in the Soto deal, so nothing you can do about that. And Gallo has just completely sucked this year and cost the Dodgers a nice prospect in Clayton Beeter. BTW, way too early to say he's "his old self" after 6 average games. Overall, there was not much at all available to Stearns this deadline in terms of clear offensive upgrades that wouldn't have required gutting our farm system.
  13. Phillies and Cardinals both lose today. First part of this week is a huge success as we've trimmed our self-imposed deficit to the Cardinals from 2 to 0.5. Let's keep it going this weekend!
  14. Agree with everything. However, it's not "near ace-level" with Woody, it's just plain ace level. Since 2020, he's 8th in MLB in fWar and 5th in ERA, and 6th in xFIP (Burnes is 1st in all of these categories).
  15. You don't take ace/top 15 MLB starters, which Woodruff is, and move them to the pen, unless they're injured like John Smoltz. Even then, Smoltz went back to being a starter.
  16. Stars of the game: Woody, Hoby, and Rowdy. Absolutely huge contributions from each.
  17. Yeah, but they play tomorrow, too. So we can't be tied heading into St. Louis.
  18. Also what was looking like a hugely disappointing homestand turns into a winning homestand....
  19. Screw that. Give us a 0.5 game lead in the division Rockies! lol
  20. YES!!!! Huge win heading into St. Louis. It's Craig's favorite time of year!
