  1. Woooo Cutch. Let's hope that's the start of a good night for the offense.
  2. Alexander is going to give up some baserunners like he always does. Hope he can just limit the damage and avoid the blowup inning unlike his last start. Counsell has to be careful about leaving him in too long.
  3. But they're only .04 ahead in runs per game. And I thought we shouldn't be comparing our offense to AL teams...
  4. With Taylor experiencing a setback and Yelich now going out with back issues, Stearns might not be able to wait until the deadline to get an outfielder.
  5. Stearns cannot leave after the season even if he wants to, unless the Brewers make the World Series. And teams that are in first place don't tend to trade elite relievers like Hader. They would have to be absolutely overwhelmed. Though, the trade proposed above might qualify as such.
  6. Is Winder a guy the Brewers might be able to get some runs off of?
  7. How is that the case, when pitching in the all-star game is no different from a regular bullpen session for these guys?
  8. I'm not personally convinced it matters too much either way. But I do see the logic of having your best two pitchers lined up back to back over the course of the season as it could provide you with a better opportunity to sustain momentum than spreading them apart would. Also, when playoff time comes around, you don't need to do as much shuffling, especially if you're playing meaningful games into the last week of the regular season and don't have that luxury.
  9. It's not an excuse. It's all part of a broader context, and within that context, the Brewers' decision to move him to Thursday does make a bit more sense. He's not "skipping" a start either. He's just being pushed back a mere two days. I doubt Burnes has much of a say anyways. If it were up to him, I'm sure he'd be going 120 pitches every fifth day. But the Brewers have to take the long-term view here with their most valuable asset.
  10. I doubt he absolutely "needs" the extra rest. More likely, the Brewers are simply exercising caution with their best player, in addition to realigning the rotation so that their "one-two punch" is back in order. It's a long season, and one that is not going to be determined by having Burnes start one game as opposed to two games this week. Finally, @Brock Beauchampwould probably be able to back me up on this, but the Twins have hit some elite pitchers such as Gerrit Cole and Shane McClanahan pretty hard this year, while having some struggles against lesser pitchers. Maybe the Brewers have noticed this and are willing to take their chance with a guy like Alexander against that lineup?
  11. I think this is more about lining up Burnes and Woodruff back to back as it was before Woody's injury than about ensuring that he's available to pitch in the all-star game. I'm fine with the extra rest for Burnes, as he's easily the most important/irreplaceable player on this team.
  12. Ughhh. Why did we ever install that short porch..
  13. Advanced stats like WRC+ literally take ballparks into account. The Brewers' WRC+ is 104, which is slightly above league average, while the Padres WRC+ is 98, which is slightly below league average.
  14. You don't like his last start or today's start? Cause I do....3.83 ERA from your #4 starter is exactly what you want.
  15. Not necessarily. Wiemer and Frelick would get them close. I'd consider that.
  16. The stats say the Padres are worse. All of them. They have Machado and that's it (for now).
  17. With how Quintana has been throwing the ball lately (he shut down the Yankees in his last start), this was a pretty good performance by the offense. Now, time to take it to the Pirates bullpen.
  18. If we did go and get Reynolds, it's worth noting that he's not a very good defender in CF....
  19. Two things can be true. He did just come off the IL after being out for a month, did he not? He was clearly starting to tire in the 6th already....
  20. Counsell should have never sent Woodruff back out there for the 7th. Ughhh
  21. I would've taken him out after 6, CC. He was clearly tiring....
  22. Keston has been much better with 2 strikes lately...
