  1. Well, then I guess it's settled. Melvin has confirmed interest, Ash has been seen at Halladay's starts, several well-respected national reporters have discussed the Brewers as a possible destination. I'm not saying it will definitely happen, but I don't think you can absolutely say it won't.
  2. He also has a no-trade clause, so if he really didn't think Milwaukee was a contender he could just veto the trade in the first place.
  3. I'm looking for 2 tickets for Saturday, preferrably not terrace or bleachers. Anyone have a couple of extras they'd like to sell? I can pick up most anywhere in the Milwaukee area.
  4. I also loved Paris, its probably my favorite city in the world. I heard French Babes don't shave their pits. Maybe some of them, but on the whole the women in Paris are beautiful.
  5. I highly doubt that the Home Run Derby changed the opinion of any one in the front office of the Brewers or any other team. Maybe this year has affected people's idea of how long Prince can play 1st as opposed to DH, but I don't think any GMs called Doug last night to inquire about this Fielder guy. If the choice is simply "do I want Prince on the Brewers or not" I think we'd all vote yes. However, once you factor in cost, what you could get in return and who you could plug in at first the choice isn't so black and white. That's the downsde of homegrown talent - fans get emotionally attached. Maybe a Fielder trade will give us the chance to get attached to some more young guys, maybe even some that can pitch.
  6. If Butler was able to do this, he'd be in our rotation right now. Toronto is in a position where they don't have to take high-ceiling prospects from the lower levels. You can say "Escobar isn't on the table" all you want, but then you should expect Toronto to counter that Halladay isn't on the table. The fact is we're not the only suitor. Toronto isn't just going to take the best offer we throw out. If we don't offer at least one, if not two, of Gamel, Escobar, Lawrie Toronto will get a better offer. Personally, I'd propose a package centered around Escobar. If we can get Halladay while keeping Gamel and Lawrie, I don't really care who else is involved.
  7. There is a bar by the stadium called Swanky's (I think) that is owned by a couple of guys from 'Tosa (I think). There is lots of Brewer stuff in there, I've watched games there before it's not too bad. Not the nicest bar, but a good place to watch the Crew.
  8. I know I've heard of a study that showed that total pitches isn't the issue. It's actually the number of long innings that create concern. Under this theory, Yo throwing 7 or 8 15-pitch innings isn't as bad as Parra throwing 4 30-pitch innings. I don't have time right now to look this up, but I think I've heard it discussed in several different places.
  9. Deadspin has a pretty good article on this being fake.
  10. But they have journalism degrees, from Columbia! [/Albom] With all the complaing guys like Mitch Albom, Buzz Bissinger and Murray Chass do about bloggers, you'd think they'd be a little more careful about throwing out crap in print.
  11. I'm pretty sure that yesterday Coffey sprinted in to the Ultimate Warrior's WWF entrance music.
  12. But if the ump calls the pitch in question a foul ball and then Stetter gives Mauer the pitch he served up to Morneau it's still going a long way. I think there are very rare occasions when you can blame a loss on an umpire. This was not one of them.
  13. "It's Big Puma! Stop calling me Fat Elvis!"
  14. As much as I love U-Verse, not having MLB is the one HUGE negative.
  15. Not yet. I don't have high hopes for this - when was the last time you heard of rehabbing instead of TJ actually working? If it works, great, but I'd like to see a loooong string of impressive appearances before Riske even sniffs Milwaukee.
  16. I'd love DeRosa, but getting him would be our "add a piece later in the season" deal, which almost certainly means no additions of pitching at the deadline. While our pitching is great at the moment, I'd rather piece together a 2B plan and save our money & trading chips for July.
  17. During Saturday's broadcast, Uecker said that Ryan Franklin has complained to the media about it. I couldn't find a print version, but I'll defer to the Hall of Famer. Ueck said he thought the untucking was no big deal and suggested the Cardinals focus more on winning the game.
  18. Bill Hall is not amused by your platoon talk. And Uecker is back to the Twitter / Pocket Doppler discussion.
  19. Not to mention they rock live. If someone's first introduction to Wilco was a live show, "Alt-Country" wouldn't even be in the discussion.
  20. Meat Puppets are at 8:00, with Matthew Sweet at 10:00. Not crazy about Meat Puppets, but I'll definitely check out Matthew Sweet. The Asher Roth show will be the night when 20,000 people try to cram into the US Cellular stage waiting for one song. Pretty sure I'll skip that.
  21. I park on Bluemound or Wisconsin and enjoy a couple of beers on the walk in. It's probably 10-15 minutes, but in the summer it's a fun 10-15 minutes.
  22. Not only that, but MLB has a hotline that players can call. All you (or your agent / trainer / doctor / pharmacist / mother) has to do is dial the phone, read the name of the drug and listed for a "banned" or "not banned" response. But apparently that's too hard to do, so these guys would rather risk millions of dollars and their reputation by assuming what their taking is ok.
  23. Go outside. We only get a few months of summer, enjoy it. Start running, go for a walk, vist the parks in your area. There are a fair amount of decent hiking trails in SE Wisconsin.
  24. I used to rent a place at 75th & Bluemound, across the street from Gillie's. Almost the whole street is apartments, but they are all in 4-unit buldings, so its not like your in a complex. 2 BD, 1 BA, garage. It was always pretty cheap and there was always at tleast one available in the Journal classifieds. I've referred a few friends there over the years, everyone's been satisfied.
  25. I almost wrote something about that! We had an entire room of Rhinelander tables. I used them to pack up my dorm room one year and recently I was at my parents house and saw at least one old Rhinie box in their basement.
