  1. The lack of strikeouts and whiffs by the bullpen has surprised me. They have for the most part done a very good job creating weak contact but the lack of whiffs and strikeouts is somewhat concerning. Their 17.8% K-rate is 26th among MLB bullpens. Their 10.9% BB-rate is 24th. The 7% K-BB rate is 28th. They are 1st in average EV at 84.5. They are 2nd in barrel rate at 2.2%. They are 1st in hard-hit rate at 28.9%. Just difficult to get a read on them up to this point. Hopefully we start seeing some more whiffs and strikeouts going forward without a huge sacrifice to the quality of contact against.
  2. I think Gallen has been a bit unlucky. He has a .311 xwOBA this year compared to a .370 wOBA. His xERA of 4.0 isn't great but much better than his actual 7.59 ERA. Plus the pitch modeling numbers still like him this year.
  3. This will be a tough game. Gallen is easily the best pitcher on the DBacks and he has had success against us in the past. Through 10.2 innings, his pitch model numbers look good 110 stuff+, 106 location+, 107 pitching+. Win this one and our odds at taking the series will be very favorable.
  4. Yeah the catcher was barking at Cruz about the slide being really late. It ended up being bad for Cruz, but it easily could have gone the other way and injured the catcher. You could hear the catcher say "What the f*ck was that". If you rewatch the play, Cruz was running towards the inside part of the plate despite starting outside the line. He likely did this to make the throw home from third more difficult but the catcher wasn't blocking the outside edge of the plate. Cruz could have easily stayed outside and slipped a hand in and this all would have been avoided.
  5. I think part of the issue is he moved closer to fair territory in an attempt to make the throw home more difficult. The outside of the plate was open for a slide but he slid towards the inside of the plate and additionally slid late as well.
  6. I wasn't at the game, but I saw quite a few people on twitter say they saw people get the jersey and immediately leave. I also saw some of the jerseys have already made it to eBay and are being listed at ridiculous prices.
  7. 10 changeups to 9 FB today and the FB was back to about a 93 mph average. Great bounceback from him today.
  8. 111 wRC+ last year is way better than serviceable. You clearly have negative bias towards Yelich.
  9. Context: League-average WAR rates vary. An average full-time position player is worth about 2 WAR, while average bench players contribute much less (typically between 0 and 1 WAR). Average starting pitchers also are worth around 2 WAR, while relief pitchers are considered superb if they crack +1 WAR. For position players and starting pitchers, here is a good rule-of-thumb chart: Scrub 0-1 WAR Role Player 1-2 WAR Solid Starter 2-3 WAR Good Player 3-4 WAR All-Star 4-5 WAR Superstar 5-6 WAR MVP 6+ WAR 141 IP with 0.4 fWAR and 0.7 bWAR puts him in that 0-1 range which is considered a scrub. Last I checked one wouldn't say a scrub is a good pitcher.
  10. Woodford as an MLB starting pitching has a 4.53 ERA, 4.47 FIP, and a 4.98 xFIP. He's not a good pitcher.
  11. Woodford is not a good pitcher. Hopefully Brewers smash him and Freddy pitches well against Goldy and Arenado
  12. Can't tell what has been worse today. Voit's defense or his hitting.
  13. .250 was above league average and no clue why you are ignoring his OBP because that's far more important as a leadoff hitter than his BA. His .355 OBP was 28th out of 130 qualified hitters...real mediocre.
  14. Voit now with a -26 wRC+ and 54% K-rate lol.
  15. We really shouldn't be surprised we lost tonight after Boob Nightengale tweeted this last night.
  16. 111 wRC+ is far from mediocre. It's actually 11% better than average.
  17. A minor league team won 7-5 in a 7 inning doubleheader tonight despite being no hit. They scored 7 runs in the 7th inning off of 5 walks, 4 HBP, and an error.
  18. Remember when this fanbase melted down when Voit opted out? Wonder if they feel the same way now when he's been our worst hitter.
  19. No he busted his knee cap in the 2019 season and was extended in early 2020.
  20. To be fair they extended him after the injury.
  21. Yes. Wiemer has also started every game since he was called up.
  22. Can't believe someone had the gall to say in this thread that Lauer is better than Montgomery. Montgomery is so much better than Lauer. He's had our hitters on strings most of the night.
  23. Lauer might not even go 4 innings today.
  24. He probably could go 2 innings, but doubt you could get much more out of him.
