  1. Pretty cool - the only thing cooler would be a video of Yount and Favre in the same room. As a 28-year-old Wisconsin boy, that would be a life's worth of Wisconsin sports heroes in the same room... universes might implode, etc. EDIT: Activated link - b19
  2. And Garth Brooks
  3. Droppin' deuces, doin' the big job...
  4. Two Words: Elton John Also, "singers" like Rihanna and Nelly Furtado give me that funny feeling in my tummy... but I'd never buy a record...
  5. I liked "The State" - and still do for that matter. I liked some of the stuff off the follow-up to that, with "How you Remind Me", "Because of You", etc.... Everything else is pretty crappy - an I don't think the dislike is limited to this board. I know that they are equally despised on some other boards as well... ...but you can't blame people for making their money while they can. Even if it means dumbing down the music "I like your pants around your feet...", etc.
  6. EARLY Billy Joel... not anything in the last 15 years... - maybe it's just the New York thing, I don't know... and not an exact comparison, but there are bits and pieces in there... a "flavoring" if you will... think back to Piano Man, etc... I bought "Tonight at the Arizona" and the drummer, Simone, handed me a copy of "Adventures of the Felice Brothers Volume 1". Talked to him for a few minutes - he was really cool, really thankful to everyone he talked to. Both discs have been in constant rotation the past few days - some great tracks on both. "The Ballad of Lou the Welterweight" may be my favorite... you're in for a treat with their live show - "The Devil is Real" is particularly good live...
  7. I went to a concert last night alone - first time I've ever done that. But I'm a huge fan of the Drive By Truckers and still hadn't seen them live. So even though I couldn't convince my wife to go, I made the drive down to Anaheim last night and saw the show. Immediately ranks as one of the top concerts I've ever seen... and I've seen many concerts in my 28+ years. The Truckers played a bit of a shorter set than usual because A) there were three bands and B) Patterson Hood had a bit of Laryngitis. But the Truckers were on point, and as much as I hated to see Jason Isbell leave the band, the additions of John Neff and Spooner Oldham are genius. The opening act - The Felice Brothers - were a band I had never heard anything from - but they tore the roof off the joint. True Americana - think early Billy Joel meets Dylan and Springsteen with a dash of DBT. I picked up a CD of there's on the way out and met a couple of the guys in the band. listening to the CD now and it's really good. This ticket comes to Milwaukee later this month at The Pabst - I strongly suggest all lovers of fine music go check it out...
  8. That will be the money i use to submit my short film to festivals worldwide with...
  9. Hey guys: Just reviving the book thread. I've got one that I'd recommend highly to people: Truck: A Love Story by Michael Perry. I've lived in L.A. for three years now, but all 25.5 years before that I lived in Wisconsin and will ultimately move back there to set up "home". I picked up this book a few weeks ago while feeling a little homesick: a book by a Wisconsin author about a year-in-the-life of a Wisconsin small town - it's technically written like a memoir but he says he has changed some of the names, timelines etc. to protect some identities and surely to add color. It's told largely through three different angles: his attempts to fix his old beat-up IH truck, his attempts to grow a bountiful garden and cook the results, and his experience courting a woman as a person who is no longer a kid and already set in his ways... This book is hands down the best book about small town life I've ever read. The characters and situations he introduces the reader to could be in any small town in Wisconsin and really captures the Wisconsin way of life perfectly. I highly suggest it to anyone looking to pick something up from the bookstore. It made me more than a little homesick. I've also recently read the book Silk, a book about a silk trader who travels to Japan and finds himself drawn to a mysterious woman there despite a happy life back at home. There is a movie coming out based on this and it actually looks bad. But the book is good and a quick read... Currently reading Murakami's Kafka on the Shore...not blown away by it, but it works... Re: new music. The Drive By Truckers album is deep and rich and everyone should get it. Right now I'm in love with Shonna Tucker's backing vocals on Patterson's songs Two Daughters, Opening Act, and Monument Valley - simply haunting... and Cooley's songs are all pure gold... Also - at the risk of dashing any credibility - the new Seven Mary Three album is available on ITunes. I have remained a staunch supporter of this band through the years even after most people dropped them (shortly after Cumbersome and Waters Edge stopped getting regular airplay)... They've got a new album out and it's actually quite good. If you want to give it a taste but really aren't sure, go spend three dollars and download these three tunes: Break the Spell Hammer & Stone Inside Out The new album is Day & Night Driving... it's really quite good... (and their "Rock Crown" album is an overlooked classic)... Enough from me today... Bill
  10. I work at a bookstore here in Glendale, CA and we have one of the Fantasy magazines out now, but that's the only one I have seen... Can't remember whose on the cover...
  11. I think this time, that actually may be, Taint McFadden
  12. It's fun, but not a "must do"... I have friends who have done the Hawaii sky diving thing and swear by it. I have also gone skydiving and highly recommend it. So, if you're going to spend money on an "adventurous" thing - go sky diving...
  13. Hey everyone: So, long story short: I had to rebuild my desktop in December to get rid of whatever viruses had found their way in. So, at that time, I had downloaded about just as much music from MusicMatch as I had Itunes. I backed up the libraries and licenses from both on to an external harddrive and there they sat until I got the computer back up and fully running about two weeks ago. I reloaded the Itunes library without a hitch - but everytime I try to reload all of the music I downloaded from musicmatch (about 15 CDs worth) it says I do not have the proper licenses to play the music... I've tried this on both my computers and it doesn't work... hence it won't let me open the files or listen to the music. Anyone have any insight? I still have my license backup, but it seems to do me no good - and I really don't want to lose all of that music that was legally downloaded and paid for...
  14. I had to do this about a year an a half ago and they offered me a "bereavement fare" which was actually more than what Orbitz was offering the tickets at... there was nothing mentioned about a rebate... So I went with Orbitz
  15. Banksy is usually black and white with one accent color... and he is english born.... But that's six letters, and no one really knows what he looks like... so I'm just rambling...
  16. There Will be Blood is good, but you're absolutely right, No Country is head and shoulders a better film. Having said that, DDL gives the strongest performance put on film in the last 10 years or so... Saw Atonement last night and it was quite good. I think it transcends the "chick flick" tag some are trying to put on it - you're right, it is disturbing, but it makes it a good movie. Two movies I watched this last week that everyone should see: Eastern Promises and Lars and the Real Girl... Eastern Promises is considerably better than Cronenburg's last film History of Violence... and had not DDL put up such a great performance I think Viggo would have been a legitimate contender for best actor... Lars and the Real Girl is also tough to watch but in a really good way... It's uncomfortable, but that;s how you're supposed to feel...
  17. Just got it on my laptop... I've gotta be honest, I have no idea what the next step to take is.. I'm going to try and get through to download all of my files on there - but it's done it three times in the last half hour... Any hints/tips/options?
  18. Is it wrong that I am overjoyed that my username and Ray King jersey now have more meaning than ever!?
  19. Did I wake up into bizarro world this morning, or did I actually see that Stephon Marbury has come to Vick's defense by calling dogfighting a "sport"??? That makes me sick - who do these guys think they are? Link: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-marbury-vick&prov=ap&type=lgns
  20. I've never started one of these before - so lets hope I can bring some luck to the crew... In honor of the AZ roadtrip and my love for the movie Tombstone (and all Westerns, really), I give you the one, the only, Val Kilmer: http://www.docholliday.info/images/image016.jpg Here's hoping Dave Bush treats the D-Backs like Holliday treated women, cards and booze: overwhelmingly, and with style...
  21. Despite its decline in "popularity" over the last few years, Pearl Jam is still the best live act for my money. They almost always play 2 hour shows (if not longer); the setlist changes drastically every night; every song is tight - they are expert musicians; Mike McCready is one of the top five guitarists touring today; and say what you want about Eddie Vedder, but the guy is a great frontman... Still haven't gotten to see my other favorite band, the Drive By Truckers, live - but all accounts are that they tear it up... I'm not a "Lenny Kravitz fan" but I remember being quite impressed when I saw him 10 years ago or so. I had the GWAR experience, compounded by the fact that the Insane Clown Posse opened up for them. Wow - it goes under the "something everyone should see once just for the novelty of it" file...
  22. BOOOOO MENCH.... Gotta love Jenkins for finding a way on...
