  1. I don't know - I look at those numbers - and taking into account the considerably less at-bats, and I don't see how anyone can not think that Braun is the clear ROY front-runner.
  2. I don't have a personal page, but I do have a page for my fledgling production company: www.myspace.com/gaslightfilms I wouldn't get a personal page, but this works as a marketing tool and a way to keep in touch with people I meet in "the industry"... MySpace is a blackhole when it comes to time though... it disappears...
  3. UW-Milwaukee - Class of 2001: Journalism and Mass Communication: Public Relations & Advertising. I worked for the family business during summers, but had various jobs during the school months. I was an intern for the Justus and Friends show on Rock 102.1; worked at UPS in the warehouse; had internships at various marketing firms, etc... And I spent all of my money on $1 bottles of Blatz at Axel's. Then spent the remaining $3 on a gyro next door at Oakland Gyros. The full UWM experience.
  4. The unfortunate thing about that boob grab screen cap is that someone is going to know who that guy is, and it's going to get around... and he's going to be "that guy"... We all do silly things with our significant others... this poor guy just got busted... oops... Hilarious... and probably unfortunate for him...
  5. For those who may be interested (insert shameless plug here) I use my MySpace blog to review books, movies, music - talk about current events, the Brewers, etc... Later today or early tomorrow I'll be posting a review of Michael Ondaatje's book Divisadero... along with some snippets on Ratatouie and Spiderman 3... Check it out, if you are so inclined: www.myspace.com/gaslightfilms edit: Oh, and a review of Jason Isbell's fantastic new CD Sirens of the Ditch is also forthcoming....
  6. Spiderman 3 is awful.... and even though I enjoyed it, I would not take an 11 year-old to see Transformers...
  7. diomedeh - I agree with you largely - shia, in general, had some way over the top corny stuff... and much of the writing was bad... But still, for me, the Transformers were cool (although the attempts at humor were bad)... But I look forward to the next episode of Megatron Vs. Optimus Prime... I think a movie with a lot less sill exposition and a lot more action will be very good... and they can do that now... they've set up the history...
  8. Because growing up with the toys as a kid in the mid 80s and seeing a fully realized version of Optimus Prime kicking tail in a live action world took me right back to being a 7 year old kid again, and it was a great escape... As someone trying to break into the filmmaking business, do I aspire to make films like this? No. But do I see anything wrong with something visually stimulating that makes me happy for 2.5 hours on a Friday afternoon? No... As others have echoed, not everything has to be The Godfather, or Citizen Kane... you need the Michael Bays of the world, too...
  9. I don't want to sound like someone with a problem here, but: Two tylenol PM and a cold beer is the best "good night" potion anyone can come up with.... I never have side effects and wake up well rested... but only on mornings when I have time to sleep... if you wake up after only 5-6 hours with an alarm, you will feel groggy for a bit...
  10. This is a cop-out - Anyone with any common sense knows how long it takes to get somewhere in L.A. I've only lived here two years and I know that if I need to be at X location I absolutely have to leave no later than x:00. It's L.A. apathy at its finest... and while you may have a point on the start time, it's no excuse for people leaving en mass after inning # 7 - that's just being a lazy fan. Don't get me wrong, there are some great, die-hard Dodgers fans who really know their baseball, but there are a lot of apathetic baseball fans. And, I did sit on the lower level, 1st base side, and my experience was different than yours. Yes, good seats, great view, if it wasn't for people constantly getting up and moving around us... As for Anaheim, sure, they may be "come-lately" fans... but the place was rocking, the watched the game throughout, and were there from pitch one to the final out... and traffic in and around Anaheim/The OC isn't much better... So that's my two cents - I hold true to my opinion that Angel Stadium is a better experience...
  11. I'd actually start out by correcting him and telling him that it's more than 4.5 games...
  12. Don't waste your time unless you really want to say "I saw a game at Dodger Stadium"... Do yourself a favor and drive an hour down the freeway and take in an Angels game. Those fans know how to properly pack a stadium and have a good time. I moved out here two years ago and saw the Brewers play there last year. I'm not saying I wouldn't go again, but here are my complaints: 1: Fans don't show up until third inning - not a myth 2: Fans leave after the 7th - also not a myth. 3: Very few fans I saw there actually watched much of the game - they were too busy "being there". 4: $6 hot dogs tasted like garbage. 5: Flat beer. 6: Fans constantly file in and out - not just during break between innings, but ALL THE TIME. Makes watching the game somewhat difficult. 7: Not a bad stadium, historically relevant but not really interesting. GO see a game in Anaheim. Those are real fans and it's a much cooler stadium with a greater variety in concessions, etc...
  13. I'm glad everyone is reading 100 Years... It's truly his masterpiece - arguably the greatest living writer. Next on my pile of books here is the Jerry Kramer/Dick Schaap book Instant Replay... Is it as good as I'm expecting it might be? Who has read it?
  14. Thought I would bump this - and report on Philip Roth's Everyman. Just finished it last night - a good quick read on mortality and the things you go through when your time is nearing its end and how you look back what you've done... Overall a good read... but I would have changed the last paragraph... anyone who has read it may or may not agree with me - but I'd be interested in discussing it...
  15. Brettac - you cheated - the new Isbell CD doesn't come out until Tuesday... But you're right - it is and will be one of the years' best CDs... I too like the Finger Eleven cd... The Neil Young Live at Massey is great... And after a few listens I really enjoy the Chris Cornell solo effort. One or two songs are cheesy/pop - but the rest are solid Cornell rock tunes... And the "reimagining" of Billie Jean is worth the listen, if not a little gimmicky... The new Patty Griffin disc is very well done, if you're into soulful folk/rock/country.... She's got a voice I could listen to all day long... But I'm looking forward to these releases: Bad Religion - New Maps of Hell (streaming now on BR's MySpace... good stuff)... Into the Wild soundtrack: announced the other day that this will basically be an Eddie Vedder solo album - he wrote a whole slew of tracks for it and I guess it is basically the whole soundtrack. Isbell... And something tells me that the Drive By Truckers could get this new album they're putting together out by the end of the year... but likely in the spring...
  16. Congrats - I love that the "Can Bill Hall Pitch" thread got some love... great stuff...
  17. Wow... this Braun kid is amazing.... we're poised to have the best infield in baseball for years and years to come... his offensive production is ridiculous...
  18. I think I like the fact that there bullpen will be tired on Sunday http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. Sorry Principessa 21 - I glazed over the "horror story" part - didn't throw it in there to be a jerk. You'll have a great time...
  20. Not to sound insensitive, but I agree with Burnie Brewer. I have sympathy for anyone with mental health issues, etc. But I just cannot find any sympathy for anyone who could kill one of their own children. Or any child for that matter. That is absolute for me. What's even more chilling is that he just let them sit there for a day or two before he came back and took care of himself. USA network and WWE should have waited for some details before "honoring" this man with their show tonight.
  21. My GF (now wife) took me for my 20th birthday a few (more than a few?) years back. It's one of those things I tell people they should do at least once in there life. I've never been afraid of heights or flying, etc. but it was definitely a rush. Once the guy says "alright, now take your right leg and place it on the metal brace just outside the door" your immediate response is: you want me to do what, now? And then you do it and the realization hits you: I'm going to jump out of a plane at 11,000 feet. Because of the way we were lined up in the plane my girlfriend went first with her tandem partner and that was strange to watch also: hey, that person I like quite a bit just jumped out of a plane! So we jumped and, becaue I'm a tall, gangly-type I couldn't get the arch procedure down right and me an my tandem partner actually "tumbled" for the first 10-15 seconds. He was screaming in my ear and I finally got it right. I can't remember how long the rest of the freefall was but it was amazing. So the chute opens and it is absolutely awesome. That drifting feeling is like nothing you've ever felt before. Very cool. But I start to llok around and don't see my GF's shoot below us anywhere. I ask the guy: uh, where did my girlfriend go? He points up - and there they were. Because we tumbled and it took us longer to get stable he waited longer before he told me to pull the shoot. So we actually rocketted past my girlfriend and her instructor... and I landed first... It was an unbelievable experience and I recommend everyone do it once. HERE'S WHERE YOU SHOULD STOP READING IF YOU DON'T WANT A BUZZKILL: I moved to Rhode Island about two weeks after the jump. Stayed there for 10 months while she finished up school. Her dad sent us a clipping a few weeks later: The place that we jumped from was shut down a few weeks later because they had three deaths within the span of about two weeks. So if someone wants to take you skydiving in Ottawa, Illinois - don't do it.
  22. You're right - didn't mean to come off as condescending... Nirvana's success helped blaze that path. But some Nirvana-purists take the attitude of: without Nirvana all other Seattle rock of that era would be forgotten/irrelevant. And that's a stance I take issue with... So when I see "Without Nirvana there is no Pearl Jam"; red flags go up...
  23. nonsense. Yes, Nirvana was the one to break out commercially, but if you listen to anyone talk about early influences in Seattle music, they talk about bands like AIC, Soundgarden, Green River, Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone. Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament both played with two of those bands - hence, are they not part of the influence? Nirvana was a (good) band that got successful commercially first, but PJ's roots dig much further into that Seattle scene. They got a bit of a bad rub because Vedder was a newcomer from California, but PJs roots are much deeper in the Seattle scene than most. So to say that "Without Nirvana there is no Pearl Jam" is a stretch. That, and you don't have the staying power that a band like Pearl Jam has without being darned good. People gave up on them a bit after one or two of their late 90s records, but there have been very solid efforts since and their latest is a gem. Not to mention that they are one of the best live bands ever. Doubt me? Go see a show. Oh - and to answer the original question - as if it weren't obvious - Soundgarden.
