  1. The histrionics of the anti-drug people have made me care far less about this than I previously did (to be clear, I'm talking mlb.com and other unmoderated backwaters). I have trouble sitting on the same side of the fence as "Hes NOthing but dirty cheater and FRUAD!! He shouyld be ban for life and give back the MVP because hes worthless SCUM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bud Seleg just gave him a wink because hes Brewers what happned to ban for life like he should be?". Dude's exposed as just another roiding human and not a significant evolutionary leap forward. Oh well, he's still my favorite player and now we'll hopefully sell before the deadline like we should.
  2. I mean he will clear waivers easy. No one is picking up his big contract for 2014 unless they need him in 2013 Sep-Oct Absolutely. If someone puts in a waiver claim on Ramirez, you just let them have him.
  3. Went to Yokohama Stadium yesterday to see Plush and the BayStars vs Yakult (w Lastings Milledge). Japanese baseball is awesome. You can bring your own food and beer. The fans are nuts, and sing constantly. Every player has his own song: Let's go, let's go Mo-gahn. Let's go, let's go Mo-gahn. Let's go, let's go Mo-gahn. Naija Mo-o-gahn. Tony! Plush! Mo-gahn! Tony! Plush! Mo-gahn! Yes, they are aware that he's Tony Plush. If you can fathom this, it seems that he has gotten crazier. He made the T gesture about 50 times and danced in CF before each inning. Also, he jacked one halfway up the stands in RF and they won 7-0.
  4. I got around my kindergarten reading level in Japanese to find stats after a friend told me back in May that he expected Plush to be sent to the minors. He apparently isn't as atrocious (I still can't find splits), but is sitting at an OPS of .682 for the year. I'll be taking a train to Tokyo next week and am supposed to be going to Yokohama vs Yomiuri. Hopefully, Plush will do something memorable.
  5. UZR places the Brewers at 15th in MLB. Which would place them middle of the road. That seems to be in line with what the eyeball test tells me. Our D seems average: some great defense from Gomez, some blunders from Weeks, but also some occasional great play from our infield. Judging by errors alone doesn't tell you enough. It's mostly a measure of "sure-handedness" and throwing straight rather than all-around defensive ability. Guys who really get after balls and make quick release throws makes awesome plays nobody else would but will also make more errors.
  6. Rickie is having a terrible season to be sure. At what do we start a topic about Lucroy's terrible season? Or do the white guys get a pass? You must not have been here for similar discussions of Geoff Jenkins, Ben Sheets, JJ Hardy, John Axford, or Corey Hart.
  7. I know of the right gif for this moment, but it couldn't be posted here. Use your imagination.
  8. And Kim Jong Un selflessly donated his entire salary to better the condition of the orphans of the revolution. Unfortunately, the American imperialist scum and their puppets in Seoul confiscated it to open murder camps. I'm not cool with this $2MM+ crap. You sign this guy because he's probably done and you see if you get lucky. Those are dudes you give $500K. I'm OK if base is near league minimum and the rest is incentives for lofty IP goals and games finished that he won't see unless he's lights-out.

  10. I just find a lot of this biomechanics stuff almost pseudoscience. Agreed. Any time someone says they've uncovered the secrets "they" in the establishment can't understand or won't admit, you're looking at a quack until they back it up with peer-reviewed publications in decent journals. Note: I know legit biomechanics research exists, but where the rubber meets the road, it seems the amateurs are taking over. Virtually all attempts people make at sports psychology with crap regarding eyes of the tiger and defeatist attitudes also fit this mold. There's actually a giant body of well-controlled behavioral research they could reference, but they don't.
  11. By $100 he must mean the $20 I spent on ebay to have it bought and shipped. Ditto. Bought it as a gift for a Japanese friend.
  12. This brings back painful memories of some really sad years of the Brewers and their awful teams. The Marlins starting lineup tomorrow Pierre Coghlan Stanton Polanco Brantly Solano Kotchman Hechavarria Nolasco Not pretty at all. Brewers projected lineup today: Aoki, RF Gomez, CF Segura, SS Weeks, 2B Gonzalez, 3B Schafer, LF Betancourt, 1B Maldonado, C Gallardo, P At least we have our best-hitting pitcher in the lineup.
  13. He could save those big fees charged by the auction house and just go to Vegas and drop in on the Pawn Stars. They'll pay cash and have an interesting episode. They'd also have a buddy who's an expert on 1981 Cy Young and MVP awards. They'd call him up and ask him to swing by to see how many crisp hundred dollar bills, cash money, they should pay. Probably not too many 'cause they've gotta make money off of it, and you've gotta find a certain type of collector for this, who's just hard to find nowadays with the economy the way it is. Also, they'd edit it so it looks like Rick knew from memory that Fingers had 341 saves and pitched 1701 1/3 career innings.
  14. Well, we got our first blown save out of the way on day 1.

  16. If it were $22MM over 2 years, I'd be OK. If we didn't forfeit a valuable draft pick, I'd be OK. This was simply not a smart move. Dude is gonna hit 37 at the end of the deal and has had his fair share of crappy seasons. I'd have preferred seeing if our in-house options take off and re-open "the window" to trying to vault ourselves toward 85 wins with Lohse.
  17. Tom Gorzelanny. Why him? Because one of our relievers will be crap and see too many high-leverage situations where he implodes. I arbitrarily picked a member of the pen to be that guy, and it's Gorzelanny. My second pick would be Jean Segura, because he's a young raw guy who could suck for a year as he adjusts to the majors.
  18. Manny Ramirez is headed to Taiwan. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8991086/manny-ramirez-play-taiwan-mlb-team-call
  19. I don't think you can say players from country X are all the same. I hope Aoki has similar longevity, but Ichiro had a lot further to fall, talent-wise, than Aoki does (& I don't mean to say Aoki's not a good player). While being from a certain country guarantees nothing, Japanese players do have a decent track record of longevity. Some of these guys did fall apart at the end, but there have been quite a few Japanese geezers in the majors. Ichiro is 39 Kuroda is 38 Uehara is 38 Saito was 42 (and continues to play in Japan) Nomo was 40 Matsui was 38 Hasegawa was 37 Okajima is 37 Tateyama is 37 Ishii is still playing in Japan at 40 Taguchi was 40 (and continued to play in Japan) Sasaki was 35 (and continued to play in Japan) Fukudome was 35
  20. If you don't have mlb.tv premium, the app costs money ($15 last year) and will only be Gameday and audio feeds: no video except when they do a free preview game. Last year, they let you pay something like $3 a month instead of $15 for the season. You were also able to pay once and download to multiple devices. If you buy mlb.tv premium, you get At-Bat for free. You simply download the free version of the app and then unlock paid-app features by using your mlb.tv login.
  21. I also keep thinking the title of this thread is spam. It's a moderator's life. I knew it wasn't because it's not in Hanzi and doesn't have a few awkward English words embedded in it. When you see: 雞盜 Best Pharmacy CiALIs!!! 幸运價 Get the ban hammer ready.
  22. Am I reading it correctly in that you now must have mlb.tv premium to watch on anything other than a computer? Before, you needed it to get the app to watch on tablets, but it appears that you now need premium for PS3, 360, Roku, and the like.
  23. Ok, I'm confused now. I'm in the Dallas area. I'm blacked out for the Rangers and Astros. The Brewers play the Rangers in Milwaukee two games in May, the Astros three games in Houston in June, and two games at Texas in August during interleague play. I should be able to see the rest of the games, no? Correct. I can watch every* Brewers game here through mlb.tv except those against the Astros and Rangers. Of course, we get the Rangers games locally (and that only matters every few years during interleague), but I don't get Astros games on my Dish package, which sucked but is obviously a far smaller problem now with realignment. Last year, there were a bunch of days where I was all jazzed to watch a game, then realized is was vs. Houston and I'd be blacked out. *During national blackouts on Sat and Sun, every game is blacked out because Fox/ESPN have exclusive rights to air MLB games during a certain window (X:00-Y:00 PM). The good news is, few other games are scheduled during this window so it's no big deal.
  24. Just watched an NHK Sports pre-season baseball special. They featured Plush throwing soy beans at people (it's part of a festival) and later dancing in the street wearing a red afro wig with devil horns sticking out.
  25. Bonus figures have been updated. It now looks as if Marcum can earn up to $4MM in bonuses, and not the $2MM that was reported earlier. Essentially, if he's as durable as 2010 or 2011, he'd make $7.5MM-$8MM. By my math, he'd make $5MM if he replicates 2012 (120 IP, 90 days active roster, 120 days active roster). http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/60340/breakdown-of-marcum-bonus-money
