  1. I doubt switching to a vegetarian diet would have any real effect at this point. When you're his size, are young, and are working out, you'd have to be on a very poor diet to lose strength this quickly.
  2. They served notice that they have a couple of very good young players and will beat teams whose pitchers fall apart and hitters underperform.
  3. I can't believe Yost got Prince to give up meat. I still can't believe Yost held Capuano's arm down on a table and bashed his elbow with a meat tenderizer.
  4. I love raw sashimi, but I wouldn't eat raw beef unless it came from a farmer I knew. Beef is just too risky and not prepared or handled to be eaten raw.
  5. Job hunting SUUUUCKS. I've been having a devil of a time exploring my options lately. I've talked to one place (their administrator is known for being a tad unorganized) about an open position and am still waiting for a callback a month later. I'm pretty sure it's not the case that they aren't interested, as they emailed my former professor and asked for a recommendation, and she recommended me (that's how I found out about the job), plus I did short-term contract work with them in the past and things went very well. When I just sent out resumes to places in my field instead of answering ads, I had several places, after I thought I made it clear that I was not desperate, have me go through the whole process and then offer me a crappy bachelor's-level job and act offended when I don't accept. I got so mad I asked one lady "is this the only position you have? I mean, did you have a higher position open and I wasn't a good fit so you offered this?" She replied that the offered job was the only opening they had. I got even more mad and asked her what kind of moron she thought I was and asked why she wasted everyone's time interviewing me for a $28,000 position with weak benefits and only 1 weekend off per month.
  6. I believe moron and another common word (idiot?) are technically clinical terms used to describe low IQ's, so I would think those would also be banned. Those terms are no longer of technical usage. The clinical term today is "patient with mental retardation". re-tard, idiot, and moron are strictly used as pejorative today.
  7. I just looked at our offensive stats and was surprised how low our OPS numbers are. Not that I think they're predictive of anything, but I was honestly surprised that we could be 6-2 and only have Braun, Hall, and Kendall turning out acceptable or better (WAY better for Kendall) performances thus far. My biased memory had me thinking only Hardy and Fielder were slow out of the gates.
  8. simple work conversation and Lenin's name happens to come up. out of nowhere "oh, you mean Vladimir Ilyich Uluanov?" Try putting up with it when they're wrong. Mine would say "oh yeah, ["fact" that isn't a fact] good thing he's finally not the president of Cuba anymore. I know someone whose ADHD was cured by colonics and a magnet bracelet, so obviously they work and you're just a moron. I can't believe Microsoft and Disney are gonna send me on a trip for testing their email, put me down for those days off. No, the guy who sent the email is a lawyer and said it's legit."
  9. You have millions of dollars on the line relying on hand-eye coordination, and don't have complete vision tests done at least once a year? That's just ridiculous.
  10. To be honest, they are New Yorkers, maybe the song just looked at them funny.
  11. The most important thing is often tolerance. I've found that above all else, the biggest predictor of success is whether a girl cares that on weekends I'm gonna get drunk, and when I get home I will pee on the front lawn. Then, the next morning I may be smoking my pipe and wearing a kimono. While I do this, I will drink so much coffee that I sweat. After that, I may surf the internet for awhile, and then spend much of my day doing very little before perseverating on something I'm writing or reading. In exchange for this, I tolerate Grey's Anatomy, chick music, flavored coffee, annoying passive-aggressive friends, wraps when I could have a burger, and throw pillows. Also, when the girl thinks that the world, particularly someone she works with, is out to destroy her, I say "man, what in the world is wrong with her? What a moron!".
  12. Really, we're all just as malleable, it's just that our motivators are more inconspicuous. I know many smart people who voted when they first had the chance based entirely upon who their parents told them to vote for. One girl I know voted for who her recently-deceased grandfather "would have voted for". Whether your IQ is 50 or 150, voting for who you're told to vote for all counts the same way in the end.
  13. Enjoy grad school while you can. It's the one time of my life that I wish went longer than it did. Darn straight. I liked my first four years of grad school so much I'm looking into going back for another four. The poverty sucks, though. No more health insurance on the parents' plan because you're too old, and no $15 an hour food service job as your work all has to be toward your degree. I'll hopefully be lucky, as the GF will be done with grad school in a year, so I'll hopefully have a sugar momma this time around.
  14. They should increase revenue by selling "tailgate tickets" or passes for games that aren't sold-out. There could be a designated tailgate area where those people have to be, so security would be minimal.
  15. My friend's little brother is named Nyan Ho. His first name is pronounced "Young". There was a well-known psychologist named Harold Wiener (pronounced "wee-ner" and not "whiner" ). Oddly, he wanted to be called Harry.
  16. Poppin' a giant chaw in my cheek.
  17. Nah, they could "catch fire" and finish 3rd, but for them to challenge for first, the Brewers, Cubs, and Reds would have to tank bad enough to hand them a race. All three of those teams won't underperform, so the Cards don't have a real chance.
  18. With a little research I am sure that he could make it work out so that he picks the only 8 teams that would be willing to either take on or afford his contract. I don't think he'd take that approach, as he'd be preventing a trade to a big budget contender where he can win and sign an extension while leaving himself open to having a lame duck contract with a crap team.
  19. I almost started a thread about this during the game. This is the first chance I had to watch a game today and while I was completely thrilled with the game, I wondered aloud if some of the camera crew are gonna get fired for this one. The camera work was just atrocious, and they often focused too long on the wrong thing, like a run scoring instead of Hardy getting cut down at 3B.
  20. If Sheets has a good year, the team likely has a good year, he gets a bunch of publicity, and high win totals. All of this leads to a ton of interest. One downfall of finally having a great team is that other teams will pay more attention to our players and will overvalue them because they're "winners". See: Suppan, Jeff. When you combine his recent injury history with the Brewers budget, it just won't be likely that we retain Sheets. The upside is that, as mentioned, a bit of salary comes off the books from Sheets and Gagne, and we can hope both will be type A, getting us 4 draft picks. The money will have to go to retaining current young players, but will hopefully also allow us to pick up 1 solid FA.\
  21. It takes some luck to get the right arrangement, though. In my case, the best jobs are typically several miles from the city since we need to be accessible to clients who wouldn't drive and park downtown. The housing options near my work (Minnetonka) are primarily $300K houses that I can't afford. But yeah, there are professions where you can live and work right in the middle of the action, which would be a great arrangement.
  22. I've had ENOUGH of that stupid mlb extra innings commercial that plays during every commercial break with the Bob Uecker impersonation. Boise!?
  23. It does seem weird that women's sports apparel seems to be designed either for Britney Spears or Rosie O'Donnell. It's like you either have to be sexy and bare some skin or be a husky tomboy in a dude's shirt. My GF is about 4'10" and 100lbs, so she can wear the shirts designed to be really skimpy but they look like a normal form-fitting women's shirt. That, or she can save money by buying kids' sizes. I'd guess much of this comes from the fact that a lot of women's team apparel is purchased by their male significant other, who's often not good at buying women's clothes and always buys a size big "to be safe". That's how I roll.
  24. What makes a big city feel like a big city? Awful traffic, no parking, and bums everywhere. All of these things combining to erase the excitement you felt about all the things to do in the city. It all sounds awesome, but then you realize it takes an hour to get somewhere and parking is $15.
  25. I think that's bad business unless you get bumped for someone with full season tickets. Some of us were fans when the team absolutely sucked, and will still be fans when economic reality means they'll absolutely suck again. Those types shouldn't be given less attention now that people have hopped on the bandwagon, because those people will hop back off when we lose 95 games.
