  1. The birthday cutoff was always a thorn in my side, as I was born at 9:00 pm on July 31st, meaning I was always the youngest player in my league (except leagues where you can play for 2 years). Fortunately, I was a very early bloomer and still often the biggest kid on my team, so my strength alone made up for the fact that I was younger and had little talent - until other kids caught up in size and then I was done.
  2. Yeah, I hate when restaurants can't get really simple things right. I'll go to White Castle and literally be the only person ordering and they still can't get that I asked for no pickles. When I worked at a restaurant, I hated when we'd make a special order and people claimed we didn't. For example, we had a family that didn't eat pork, so they'd order a pizza that typically came with sausage and have us substitute beef. Then EVERY time they'd call back and complain that it was pork. One time my manager when so far as to have everyone working WATCH him make the pizza with ground beef - they called back (trying to get a free pizza). People would ask for their pizza well done and call back to complain that it wasn't, but I guess that depends on your definition of "well done", as ours was 1 1/2 trips through the oven and yours is apparently cooked until the crust is black.
  3. "Debate" implies both sides have a leg to stand on and a plausible chance of "winning".
  4. Yuck, I know it's a minor league deal, but I simply hate Weaver and would prefer to see Zach Jackson, Narveson, or someone who we don't know is worthless get the shot if necessary. With Jackson, maybe you can hope for an explosion into a 4.90 ERA pitcher, I can't hope for that with Weaver. I just pray "track record" won't be mistaken for "able to pitch in the bigs". Hopefully, it's all moot, but I think the emotional reaction from some is simply thinking "if we need Weaver for any real stretch of time, it probably means our postseason hopes are officially done".
  5. Looks like your collection is worth more than where some people live. You could buy a double wide at this rate.
  6. There are, as a result, going to be the "ones that got away". Yeah, it's an awesome double-edged sword. We lose some good talent, but we don't suck so bad we're clamoring around the waiver wire waiting for Gary Glover. I'd rather we lose a few guys who go on to be starters somewhere than be forced to get excited about Adrian Hernandez.
  7. Ann Carrol stumbled over her words and mispronounced player's names. She could look like Jessica Alba and wear a 2 piece and i still wouldn't have been fond of her. Actually, I'd like her less because it'd be obvious she only got the job because she's hot instead of - wait, why did they hire her?
  8. Joe Dillionaire My favorite in the thread thus far. I always like "Hambone" for Jeffrey Hammonds, because it's something you toss out in the back yard for the dogs.
  9. Gagne (usually pronounced Gag-knee) is a steroid guy so the Brewers will lose Or when people say Turnbow was suspended for testing positive for steroids.
  10. Any puns involving Gabe Kapler I'd be more inclined toward "Gabe Ruth" thus far.
  11. I'm glad the Sox are so in the head of the Yankees that they are reverting to superstition and wasting time. And that seems to be what their lawsuit will be based on. The lawyers here would know better, but wouldn't the Yankees have to prove that they're somehow damaged by this being in the concrete?
  12. Ironically, I was eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch when I saw this thread.
  13. Always opt-out and demand release when placed on waivers or DFA'd.
  14. With the buyout factored in it definitely makes sense.
  15. I ate about 9 pounds of sashimi last night and it hurt to yawn or burp for the rest of the night because my stomach was stretched to its absolute limit. I literally have never been so uncomfortable from overeating.
  16. I think the bouncer at Zim's might require you to wear pants. Not if he too is a bf.net poster and you drop the right names. "So yeah, I was talking to Mass Haas the other day..."
  17. Why not just release a guy rather than sell him for a dollar?
  18. Seriously!? A homer and a double so far today. I saw the headline on te Brewers site that he hit another home and couldn't help but emit about 20 straight 4 letter words of excitement. The idea that I'd get more excited about Gabe Kapler coming to the plate than Prince Fielder was something I never would've believed.
  19. It seems like the majority opinion is that his problems have been boneheaded pitch selection and not his pitches themselves, which is certainly encouraging as you can simply tell a guy what pitches to throw and he'll be alright as long as he complies.
  20. Maybe Counsell finally convinced Ben to allow him to implant an eye of the tiger.
  21. Let's hope lightning stays caught in the bottle for 14 more games. Word. Kapler's doing a fantastic job filling in for us, and I've been absolutely thrilled that Cameron's absence hasn't created a black hole in our lineup with a slap-hitting Gwynn, especially in light of the struggles of the rest of the lineup thus far.
  22. I thought Team Canada was the former Batman. I did for awhile as well, as it seemed like TC becoming a frequent poster happened at the same time Bill stopped posting, so I assumed it was like when al the thinking man went away and dadofandrew popped up. Bill was always one to stick to baseball and not talk about personal life, much like TC, so there wasn't anything to make it obvious.
  23. Nah, you probably just got the autos of the guys without extended success, because they're easier to get than big time players, and they subsequently didn't take off. The reason you got their autographs was a part of the reason they didn't have prolonged success. Weeks is obviously the wildcard, as he could still take off. It's like the Madden Curse, etc, where football players who are at the peak of their game are chosen, and the peak for a football player is often 3 or 4 years.
  24. And also, Batman, holla at your old boys and let us know you're still kickin. It's always weird when someone who posts that much suddenly goes away.Though I can't remember anyone else that ubiquitous who was also a good poster that left.
  25. I thought politics was off the table on this board Brian. Ever hear of the FDA? That statement is clearly political. How about all the hard working Americans employed in this country in the meat industry? Have you ever heard of babies, puppies, and our troops? How about baskets full of kittens and the lives and happiness of our future generations where we shall stand united as the greatest nation on earth? Freedom, liberty, the American way and democracy!
