Senzatela came in vs the Padres and they didn't hit a ball out of the IF in Gm1 and he ended up with 2 hits given up and a BB. Dustin Harris with a GB to 1B, then a GB up the middle by France. Those were 55 exit velo and 72. Gasser is your #3 starter, so you probably don't want to plan on using him in a long role. But again, the stronger argument for Harrison is... he's healthy and both these teams struggle vs LHPing. I don't know if Woody can give you two innings. He's thrown 2 Bullpens since he was told he needed another season ending surgery and then got lucky he didn't actually need that. You're going to the World Series. If you DO find yourself in a blowout situation... I don't know that it really matters, but I'd rather have a guy who could stay in there and eat it. You're probably limited to using Woody for 1 inning and hoping he can pitching well. They'd said he was throwing in the 80s, but hoped if it was a game, he'd be up in the 90s. I don't think you really want to be hoping for all that to fall right when you have legitimate arms who can throw and give you depth.

Brewers (Drohan) vs Dodgers (Glasnow): 10/15/26, 7:00pm
BrewerFan replied to Frisbee Slider's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I feel like it's gotta hurt. We rely on our BP arms, that dominant power pitching... and I'm watching Espino in Gm4 and he looked good, but not great. If he's supposed to be... roughly equal to Uribe in terms of stuff, I didn't see it. He was throwing 97 and just didn't look that sharp to me... and I don't think it's just because we have so many better arms. I think the cold hurts. It'st a bit hard to see Ashby going up and down 3 times out of the pen. It's also going to be maybe 50, so... it's not like they'll be pitching through flurries, but I think indoors or California were two climates more conducive to our pitching. -
I think Letson and Knoth have TOR type stuff. Moreso than Priester. Hardin has good stuff, though not TOR. I think we're pretty good though. This staff is very young and has a lot of team control left.

They're in the World Series... Woody is with the team. I really wouldn't think this team would need an extra rallying point! Also, putting him in the roster over May or Harrison... especially Harrison with these two left handed heavy rosters, two teams that hit RHPing better than lefties, that could burn you. I liked Harrison, he got his FB back. May's looked fine in shorter outings. Throwing Woody would be a pretty big risk at this point. We're kinda assuming the series is going to be as relatively stress free as the first two rounds. And if we do have a game that goes 13, 14... I mean, Woody has thrown 31 pitches out of the pen and only ONE time has he thrown anything other than his Fastball.
-
Yeah, it's a fluky game and, with talk about defending... we'd REALLY better win it this year! Someone else said this was the start of the "Brewers Dynasty." I think it was Trevor Plouffe... from that Jomboy media channel. I don't know, I certainly thought just zooming out, our best chance was in a year or two, but I thought the same thing in 2010 with the Packers. When(if) we finish this one off, I'll be much more inclined to start talking about the NEXT one. I am kinda excited about throwing Cameron Wagoner in the pen next year. Lots of other arms and bats as well, but that dude has an electric arm.

Mark Attanasio appreciation thread
BrewerFan replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
We have some idea. His pop times were back to 1.90 this past year. If he DOESN'T take another step and improve upon that, you've still got a guy with better pop times than Contreras. He's not the hitter than Contreras is obviously. Better in terms of blocking... but we also don't know what Contreras will be at 32-years-old... or 34. He's going to be just shy of 30 when he hits free agency... and I don't think he's taking a discount at this point. I was all in favor 3 years ago or 2 years ago. I don't think extending him is an option at this point. -

BrewerFan replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
We don't have a "stud" but... Quero is still a pretty nice prospect. I'd take the money we WOULD give to Contreras and turn it and focus on Made. We can afford to have a little less from behind the plate if you're getting a Jose Ramirez type player at 3B. That said... he really had kinda given the Brewers an edge. -
The Next Wave of Brewer Extensions - Who would you pick?
BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
I think we may be talking past each other a bit. I was saying Pratt was a bit of an indication they were being a little more aggressive or changing up their approach a bit, not comparing Made to Chourio, but... it doesn't really matter. We'll see what happens.- 22 comments

The Next Wave of Brewer Extensions - Who would you pick?
BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
I guess they're the same as in they both played in AA, but I disagree they're the same "development spot." Chourio was dominant in AA after they went back to the normal balls(they'd experimented with those tacky balls). Hit well over .300/.380 with a .544 SLG the 2nd half of the year. I don't recall the speculation that he needed to spend time in AAA. I also didn't say they would or wouldn't have signed him before the start of this year. I'm talking about right now...- 22 comments

BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
I think they may be changing the schedule. We signed Pratt when it looked like he would need a full year in AAA. I don't think it's a stretch to think they'd be approaching Made. And I think he's going to be much more expensive just because he's so much more valuable. A SS/3B vs a LF? We'll see, if they haven't talked to him coming into the year, we should be right now(and then I would call him up). He's maturing in every way that you'd hope he would be. Worst case is almost bringing him up, no contract and he gets called up late this year and then you have him on the active roster heading into the 2027 season... and you may lose most of a year or service. All we can do is speculate though.- 22 comments

The Next Wave of Brewer Extensions - Who would you pick?
BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
What are we thinking it'll take to sign Made? I'm starting to think it'll be a MUCH bigger deal than Chourio. 10 years 140 with ~15 Signing bonus and then... I think the tough part would be do we get a TO or two. 2 TOs at 30M per year with a 5M team buyout? The team options would take him to For arguments sake, you sign him, call him up now. Setting aside how it'd be difficult to move him to 3B when Pratt was ready(and he seems a little while away yet). I'm ONLY bringing his name up as a Baseball player, but you look at Wander Franco, they're really pretty similar players. I think Franco was considered a better pure hitter, Made more athletic, more speed, but two SHing SS's who should hit for power and average, draw walks? As good as Chourio was as a prospect, this is a much more valuable player. 3B seems like a fallback now. I don't think we've seen even close to what Chourio is capable of, but still 8 years left. Anyway, Made is I think maybe the best prospect the Brewers have ever had. If he gets to FA by 25, 26, he could be a 1B player(just based on the trajectory of contracts). I suppose you could take the Juan Soto approach, but I'd prefer to keep him in Milwaukee for a very long time. I DO wonder if there's some nudging by the MLBPA to get him to turn down an extension.- 22 comments

BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
I would to, but IF they sign him... I'm starting to believe he'd be a big upgrade for us. Contract takes precedent... which sucks because that's not how sports should work but... obviously it is. It wouldn't be that crazy though. McGonigle and Griffin, they had ~200 PAs and ~100 PAs in AA ball. Griffin got 5 games in AAA this year, but that was just until they worked out a contract.- 22 comments

The Next Wave of Brewer Extensions - Who would you pick?
BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
Yeah, but he's special. I think it's a really stupid idea without a contract, but he's showing everything right now. More walks than Ks, hitting the ball hard, can handle the velo. I don't think AAA does a whole lot for prospects like Made other than give them a place to play so we can say they need to work on something for 2 months before getting called up so we don't lose a year or service. I think he'd both be better than Ortiz(though I'd be playing him at 3B) and I don't think it'd ruin his confidence. But I have a feeling the Brewers would have gone to Made before Pratt when talking extension. Also, if you look at the two guys ahead of him, they played no AAA ball. They played partial seasons in AA and they got the call. Again though, I would not consider it without locking in those extra years of control. Otherwise you're just getting a couple years where he's figuring it out and losing what could be, if he develops the way we think, MVP caliber years.- 22 comments

The Next Wave of Brewer Extensions - Who would you pick?
BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
Misiorowski is just going up and up in value... and I would guess we've already approached Made and were too far apart(as it sounds like we were with Mis). There's a lot of "call Made up now" momentum on X or other places... and I'd actually be alright with it... IF we had a 10 year 120M extension in place. The kid would become a FA at 29 and get paid now. If it takes 140M, I'm fine with that also. Get him time at 3B also. But no shot would I call him up now just so the Brewers can watch him get the first Billion dollar TV deal when he's a 25-year-old FA SS.- 22 comments

I guess I don't get why they're doing this when a guy SHOULD probably be playing a year in AAA yet. Is this more like a 7 year deal with 2 TOs and... then you get into the whole 2027 lock out. It's just a weird time for me, but, again, I'm such a fan of these moves that I'm not going to question it too much.- 22 comments

The Next Wave of Brewer Extensions - Who would you pick?
BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
He'd have been in my top 15 guesses, but near the bottom! You usually don't extend a guy who... isn't really ready to play at the MLB level! I mean, I think he could give you what Ortiz did last year(mostly)... but this type of deal? What the hell, I'm all for extending as many young players as possible. I honestly think if you sign as many young players as you can to these types of deals, even if you get a few who don't live up to their potential, you still come out on top... I mean, if it's reasonable. I think Pratt's floor is a very good defensive SS/3B who can hit for some power and put up a ~700 OPS. That's a fairly negative outlook, but... that's worth this deal. I doubt the Brewers believe that's the player he's going to be. (By the way, a player I forgot was Quinn Priester... I wouldn't be shocked to see him extended for ~6/45+2 TO and some incentives based on IP and... maybe CY Voting, top 10-15).- 22 comments

The Next Wave of Brewer Extensions - Who would you pick?
BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
Turang if you can get a reasonable Marte-esque type extension(not quite Marte given Marte was closer to FA, but 7/90+2 TOs... maybe). Misi- I'd 100% do right now. 8 years 100M 2 TOs for 25M per. Yeah, I know he's a pitcher... and I'd still do it. People use deGrom as the "what if" in terms of healthy. Look at his first 8 years. Made- Mis is 1A, Made is 1-1- I'd give him a Chourio type extension... though I imagine it'd be more expensive. Maybe 8/80+2 TO at 20M with a 10M buyout and MVP, incentives, give him the chance to earn 8/100. Contreras-I'd float a 5 year 75M extension... but I think we're too close to FA for that to be viable. Frelick would be a contingency plan as I don't think Turang or Mis will sign. American players are less likely to... though with a pitcher like Mis, still gotta try IMO. He looks like he's just going to keep getting better. Ultimately, I suspect Made will be the most likely and we're too late on Contreras and probably on Turang. I'm also just not afraid to pay a guy into his 30s. I'm afraid to pay him into his mid 30s or late 30s, but 32-33? Not at all a concern. Uribe-I'd go 8/40+2 TOs at 12M AAV.- 22 comments

Showing The Signs: Brett Wichrowski has the weapons, but controlling them is key
BrewerFan commented on Jackson Gottfreid's blog entry in The Inside Look
There have been a number of time I've wanted the Brewers to take a pitcher in the draft... most often been wrong than right, but they've waited...and this uncanny ability to find these power arms later in the draft and get them to just add something here or tweak their delivery and they're performing better in AA than they were a year or two ago in College! Hardin is a big one, Wichrowski looks great and they have guys right behind them on their way up as well.- 1 comment

Which DSL Hitters Will Be Coming Stateside? Potentially a Lot
BrewerFan commented on CheeseheadInQC's blog entry in Fun with numbers
Let's push Made and Pena. They struggle, and they go to AZ. They hold their own, great. I'd also include Jose Anderson. Maybe just get in a few games at some point. He'll be there for the start of rookie ball, but I'd like to see him get some ABs there when someone is on the 7-day DL or whatever, but that may be too aggressive. I'd just be in favor of giving him some PAs there, letting him get a feel for it, see how he handles it and if he surprises, maybe he earns his spot there. More than likely it's too aggressive, but I'd still like to see it. Who's going to be our Low A SS? Di Turi, Guilarte? Probably Adamczewski would be the leader, but these guys are versatile. It also gives you the benefit of playing Made/Pena at 3B and 2B as well. I can't imagine what this system is going to look like after another group of IFAs and a draft class that includes several early picks(and hopefully one for Williams as they did with Burnes as the team acquiring him will presumably plan on getting a comp pick in return themselves). Top 5 farm system and #1 System mid '26.- 7 comments

The Qualifying Offer System and a Willy Adames Trade
BrewerFan commented on Bashopolis's blog entry in Smash
True, but we should have quite a bit more offensive firepower coming up this year and next. But if we're trying to compete now...losing Adames would be a big blow. I'm also fine with that. I'd rather trade Burnes, Adames, Williams(players with less than 2 years of team control) and get pitching so that when Chourio, Black, Frelick, Quero...etc...all start hitting their stride, we have another window open. -
I don't see why they'd take a guy who's played catcher his entire life, but isn't an elite athlete and move him to 3B. That's rare and when it's done, it's usually down at the lower level of the minors. He doesn't need to play 3B. He needs to continue catching. There's no rush. It'll likely take Quero a couple years before he's ready to produce anywhere near Contreras. I'd guess even then he'd have more value defensively, less offensively, and at that point they can determine if trading Contreras is worth it. But 4 years away from Free Agency, I see no reason to stunt his growth at C to play him at 3B.

Brewers Need To Avoid “Terrible Twos” In The Draft
BrewerFan commented on Harold Hutchison's article in Minor Leagues
It's the MLB draft. About half the players never make it to the big leagues.(Edit-Just among 2nd round picks) About half of those who do end up with a negative WAR or a WAR around 1. In a given year there may be a...Joey Votto, JJ Hardy, Dan Haren, but they're few and far between. Using their history of 2nd round picks over the last 20 years just tells me they've probably done better than average. I'd also consider Tyler Black or the competitive balance picks after Rd1 as 2nd round picks. What team DOESN'T have misses like that? A normal 2nd round might have 2 players with 10+ career WAR, 2-3 more with ~5 or so, half the round never makes it and another and the rest are Blake Perkins type players. Just replacement level players. You're just throwing darts at a VERY small board. Even in the 1st round, you're projecting years out. The miss rate is enormous. -
What Would An Ideal Draft For The Brewers Look Like?
BrewerFan commented on Harold Hutchison's article in Minor Leagues
An ideal draft? 4-5 pitchers who throw in the upper 90s with high spin rates and very high ceilings. Better yet, College arms. A Corbin Burnes in the 4th, a Woodruff in the competitive balance draft, Nelson in the 2nd. That'd be ideal. How do you do both a "needs based draft," and then when it comes to mocking the 5 picks in the first 87 picks(or whatever it is) and not target any of these electric young arms? I'm also not real high on the one pitcher we take throwing in the 88-92 range as a College Jr. Not a lot of room for projection there.
